Coben does it again and ruins all my plans to run errands, cook, clean and grocery shop today. I could not put it down! I need to plan when to start a Coben better! And just when I thought I had it all figured out, whammy a sneak attack! Loved it, Loved it!
It's been a long time since I've read a book that was so captivating that I could not put it down! This is my first Harlan Coben book, but it won't be my last. His writing style is great, the book moves along at a good pace and never gets logged down in too many details or descriptions. The clues kept me guessing and going in several different directions, right up to the very end. I really enjoyed reading this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Promise which led me to try another book by this author. I can now say for sure that I am hooked. It was difficult to put the book down.
This book could be a little confusing because of the different story lines but they all come together in the end. Again, it's one of those stories when you think you've got it figured out only to be proved wrong.
Excellent author. I can't wait to read more of his books.

County prosecutor Paul Copeland lost a lot of loved ones in his life: his sister was murdered 20 years ago, his mother left him and his father overnight, his wife died of cancer and recently his father died as well.
Raising his six-year-old daughter with the help of his sister-in-law he now faces an angry father who's son stands trial for the rape of a young stripper girl. The father promises to do everything possible to destroy Paul's life if his money offer isn't accepted and the plaintiff doesn't accept his money offer to spare his son jail.
On top of that the past reaches into the present when suddenly a long thought dead body surfaces. One who supposedly should have been dead for about 20 years - except that the dead body is fairly fresh.
20 years ago four teenagers were killed in the woods. Two bodies surfaced and two, including Paul's sister Camille, were never found. Now Paul's hope rises that his sister might have survived as well.
Something is going on - not only in Paul's life: 20 years ago Lucy Silverstein, now known as Lucy Gold, fell in love with Paul, the junior camp counselor in her father's camp. One night, the night that would change their lives forever. While Lucy and Paul were making out in the woods, four of the campers Paul was supposed to watch over, were killed in the very same woods.
Today, due to an assignment to her students, Lucy received an anonymous journal entry about the most traumatic event in their lives. Lucy is shocked to receive a journal entry describing the events in the woods, what she and Paul saw and never told to anyone. She reaches out to Paul, ripping open old but never really healed wounds.
Together they face the mystery of what really happened back then, who killed whom, who knows and ultimately: is it possible that Camille survived the tragedy as well ? And if yes, where is she ? Where does she hide ?

What I like about Coben are his characters which almost always are believable and seem all to real. In all the stand alone Coben novels I've read or listened to, the main character could have been the beginning of a new series after the Myron Bolitar series hasn't been continued in a long time.
Coben knows how to do it: he spins a huge cobweb, with millions of different angles,
which meet in the middle to feast on the freshly caught fly.
The Woods exceeds the the readers expectations by far.
Thrilling and gripping from the beginning to the end.
Note:
Harlan Coben recently had his novel Tell No One made into a movie. Visit the movie site here.

Paul Copeland is a county prosecutor raising his young daughter alone after the premature death of his beloved wife. Early in this novel, Paul recognizes a man brought into the morgue as a teenager believed to have been murdered 20 years earlier in the woods at camp. One of the other teenagers murdered that summer was Paul's sister. With this new evidence that some teenagers may have survived the murders, Paul attempts to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearances in the hopes of finding out what happened to his own sister that summer night in the woods.
This was not my favorite Harlan Coben novel. As with all his books, The Woods is very plot driven and has minimal character development. But, even more so than his other novels, this one seemed immature. In the book, Paul's love for his daughter was superficial and forced, as was his attraction for his camp girlfriend with whom he reunites to solve the murder mystery. And, as the events played themselves out, the story began to seem a bit too far-fetched to me.
The Woods was a quick and easy read with a lot of action that kept the story moving. But, I have no doubt Harlan Coben took about the same amount of time to write the book as I did to read it.
It was fun, but forgettable.

Never read this author before, but I'm really impressed. The book doesn't have much in the "passionate romance" category, and I missed that. However, it has more twists and curves than the Indianapolis 500. You NEVER know what's going to come up next. Nothing in the plot, and sub-plot and sub-sub-plot is predictable. It was difficult to put it down for even a minute. I read the 500 pages in less than 2 days! It all starts when the county prosecutor is pulled into a death case of a man from his past. He's convinced that this man accompanied his sister 20 years prior into the woods and both consequently disappeared. I highly recommend it. If you don't have time to read it, just read the first 30 pages. You'll make time!!

On his deathbed, Paul Copeland's father grabs his hand and urgently whispers one final directive to his son: "Paul, we still need to find her." Two decades before, four teenage campers had wandered into the woods one sultry summer night. Some time later, two of the missing campers were found murdered, but the other two teens were never seen again. The lives of four families were changed forever. Now, twenty years later, they are all about to change again.
Paul 'Cope' Copeland's life was turned upside down twenty years ago with the loss of his younger sister, Camille. Even now, he still feels the muted pain of that loss, although life has inevitably moved on for him. He is now the county prosecutor for Essex, New Jersey - a widower who recently lost his wife to cancer; learning to parent his six-year-old daughter as a single father. Balancing family life and a rapidly ascending career as a prosecutor distracts Cope from all his past traumas, but only for so long.
When a homicide victim is found with evidence linking him to Cope, the long-buried secrets of the prosecutor's family are threatened. Might this homicide victim actually be one of the campers who disappeared with his sister? Could Camille still be alive? Cope can't be entirely sure, but he knows that he needs to find out.
Yet, investigating this case will ultimately force Cope to face so many things from his past; people and emotions he believed he'd effectively left behind during that summer of twenty years ago. There will be Lucy, Cope's first love; his estranged mother, who abandoned her family; and the secrets held by his Russian parents, secrets which they might have been hiding even from their own children. Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be set free into the light.
This is the first book by Harlan Coben that I've ever read, although I do have a least two others hidden somewhere on my bookshelf. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book; I found it to be very well-written and the story itself completely held my attention. I also really felt connected to the characters, and was quickly engrossed in the plot. I give this book an A! and this will most definitely not be the last book by Harlan Coben that I read.

Paul Copeland, county prosecutor, is grieving over the murder of his sister. He is now working on a murder investigation that could be related to his sister's case. Twenty years ago, four young people went missing in the woods while at a summer camp. Two were found murdered and two are still missing. Can Paul's sister, Camille, still be alive? This book hooked me from the start. I found it to be a fast-paced suspenseful read. Harlan Coben is the master of the twist and this book does not disappoint. How have I not read this author before?? Harlan Coben is a fabulous writer. His thrillers keep you guessing to the end. He writes with a ironic sense of humor and uses words economically. The story grabs you from the first sentence...."I see my father with that shovel" and it races along revealing more and more clues to the mystery of the hero's past. One of the best thrillers I've read in a long time!
This is the first time I read Mr. Coben. At first, I thought I was not going to like this book because the main character comes across as a chauvinist, but I read through and it turned out to be a very good book.
This book had me from the beginning. I was entranced by the characters and the twists in the plot. If you like Harlan Coben, you will enjoy this one. If you have not tried any of his books, this is a good one to try.
This book was a page turner. I loved every minute up till the last 10 pages or so. Without spoiling it for everyone, I will just say that the build up throughout the book does not go with how I would have ended it. I hate to say this but I was just a smidgen disappointed with how the author chose to end the book. Maybe I expected too much, but this was a very long book (500+ pages) and although I don't feel like it was a waste of time....I just wish there would have more shock effect for the ending.
Realy really good, I could not put it down.

This was the first book I have read by this author. I really liked it and have now read several more by Harlan Coben. He tends to always have a twist that you don't expect at the end. Highly reccommend them. Especially the Myron Bolitar books.

Very good thriller/mystery! Paul Copeland is a county prosecutor that still mourns his sister's death twenty years ago. They were at summer camp and his sister, Camille, and three other teenagers walked into the woods and were never seen again. As Cope is trying one of his biggest cases, he is linked to a murder victim. As hope rises that Camille may be alive after all these years, family secrets begin to surface.

And I loved it! This was very hard to put down. I'll definately be reading more books by Harlan Coben.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different than the usual murder mystery books. There were twists and turns that kept you guessing.
This book kept me reading! Starts with a camp for teenagers, some go into the woods and never come out. Later when some are all grown up and successful the mystery of the Woods come back to haunt them. And one especially tries to find answers to what happened that night in the Woods.
This was my first time to read anything by Harlan Coben. I have not read a contemporary murder mystery in quite some time, and I will say that I was not disappointed.
In all, the mystery was very good. I did not put all of the pieces together until the moment before the author handed them to me on a platter, which is all I can ask for in a solid murder mystery. The characters were a little bit cookie cutter an fit into some pretty typical stereotypes, but they were interesting and the dialogue was witty, which made it easy to forgive them for their lack of true originality.
Even though this book was supposedly not written in response to the Duke lacrosse team rape trial, the similarities were striking. In all, it was a fast paced, easy to read mystery that I really enjoyed and would gladly recommend.

This was the first book by Harlan Coben that I have read. It was a page turner! I could not set it down.
Probably my favorite Coben book thus far. Really interesting story and a pretty surprising twist at the end. A FAST read!
Very good - quick read because you can't put it down!
This is my all time favorite book (and that's saying alot in my 30+ years of reading). This was the 1st Harlan Coben book I read. After I read this one, I printed out his book list from his website and checked off each book I read. I just finished my last one - "Tell no One" - and it didn't disappoint. He has the ability, in every one of his novels, to keep me guessing until the very end. I never figure it out - I have to wait for Harlan to tell me.
Twists and turns... had me guessing all the way through.
This was the first book of his I read and I cant wait to read more.
Really enjoyed this book and all other novels by this author.
Great book, you won't want to put it down!!!
This book will keep you wanting more. I couldn't put it down.
I enjoyed the first Harlan Coben book I read, but the second seemed like a re-working of the same theme and so on and so on, Like Robert Ludlum, he keeps writing the same book over and over. On this one, I read the synopsis on the back cover and didn't go any further.
Great read! I highly recommend this story!
Classic Harlan Coben thriller of murder, suspense and the unexpected.
This book was so much better than I thought it would be. I had to read it for a book club and glad I did! Went ahead and ordered another Harlan Coben book and we'll see if I like that one too.
Terriffic book. Highly enjoyable. Couldn't put it down!
This was my first read by Harlan Coben, and I was floored! Coben is amazing! I lost two nights of sleep over this one trying to finish it because I just HAD to know what happened next. Great story about four teenagers murdered in the woods near a summer camp twenty years ago, one of them being the main characters sister. The very first page draws you in, grabs you by the throat, and doesn't let go, even after the last page is read. Coben's books began filling up my Reminder List the minute I finished this one. A++, Five Stars, whatever...just read it!
Another winner for Harlan Coben!! Twists, turns, intrigue - you will never guess the ending. I cannot get enough of this writer!
Another great Harlan Coben book. Couldn't put it down. Great murder mystery!
Harlan Coben does it again!! This book held my interest right from the beginning and the ending is one I never saw coming! Great book!
Another good one from Coben, you never know where this ones going until the end.
A great read! One of my favorite authors. Never a disappointment.
The book was ok I just didn't care for the way it ended. Maybe someone else will like the ending I have no clue.
This was the first book of Harlan Cobens I have ever read and it was the best books ive read in a long time. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Coben ties up all the loose ends of his plots into nice, neat bows, leaving you thoroughly satisfied that nothing has been forgotten. D.
My first book by Harlan Coben. Heard about him on The Five on Fox. Fast paced.
Twenty years ago, four teenagers at summer camp walked into the woods at night. Two were found murdered, and the others were never seen again. Four families had their lives changed forever. Now, two decades later, their lives are about to change again.
When a dead body is found and is suspected to be one of the missing teens Paul Copeland, Essex County prosecutor and brother of the other missing teen, is dragged back to face the horror of all that his family went through. As he investigates the mystery he is also trying a rape case that will have ramifications on him as well as a number of other families affected by the presumed deaths of the missing teens. Paul will have to face some hard truths about his family, friends and one lost love who his drawn into the story.
So begins Harlan Coben's latest twist filled suspense thriller. As usual it is a page turner, with me staying up way too late to find out how Coben ties together all his loose ends and throws you one twist after another. While not as good as Tell No One and Gone for Good it was still an very and fast paced read.

I always pre-order Harlan Coben's standalone thrillers. Lately I have been questioning whether or not I should continue to do so, I just haven't enjoyed the most recent books as much as the older ones.
Fortunately, I somehow missed The Woods on Mt. TBR. This is old-skool Coben: likeable characters with the worst luck, facing equally unlikeable bad guys. One of his best page turners.

I have read several of his books -- the others are good; this is the best.
County prosecutor Paul Copeland is still getting over the loss of his sister twenty years ago-the night she walked into the the woods, never to be seen again. Now, as Cope struggles to raise his six-year-old daughter alone and try one of the biggest cases of his career, evidence links him to a man who has been viciously murdered. The victim could be the boy who disappeared along with Cope's sister. And, as hope rises that his sister could still be alive, dangerous secrets from his family's past threaten to tear apart everything he's been trying to hold together...
this was an excellent read, I couldn't put the book down.
