3 Guys You'll Never Date : You Can Leave Your Hard Hat On / The Total Package / Her Hero? (Signature Select)
Review Date: 4/30/2010

A cute little romantic comedy book, this contains three stories from three very job-successful females who have been disappointed in their dating failures. They make a pact between themselves not to date any ditch-diggers, geeks or used car salesmen. They will only date guys that have a good-paying job that's equal to their own, and not settle for less.

One gal (an architect) winds up with a ditch-digger that she had a brief fling with at the end of high school. Another gal (a marketing whiz) is approached by a geek to "make him over" and ends up falling for him. The third one is reunited with her long-ago lover from high school who has become a used car salesman.

The book is definitely light-hearted, but the passion at times is pretty intense. It teaches a good lesson that we should never judge a book by it's cover. But, since we are all fanatical book lovers, we already knew that, right?

And it's another gem from the queen of suspense! Absolute Fear is the story of Eve Renner and her on-again and off-again love affair with Cole, her dad's attorney. Eve's dad was the head psychiatrist and surgeon at Our Lady of Virtues Hospital down in New Orleans. Eve can remember playing at the hospital when she was a young girl..the normal friends and the freaks.

Eve also knows that she was adopted at a very young age and has never tried to track down her birth parents. When her DNA is analyzed, she winds up being related to Detective Montoya's girlfriend, deceased nut-case Faith Chastain, Detective Rick Bentz and his daughter, Kristi. It's very interesting how the entire story unfolds.

Of course, we get to see some of the characters again that have been in Lisa's New Orleans stories before...like the two detectives, Rick's daughter Kristi, etc.

Lots of suspense, thrills and enough intrigue to keep you guessing as to how it's going to end. A long book--but well worth the ride!

I've really enjoyed reading this trilogy by Kat Martin. All the stories seemed refreshingly different. But, the third one, AGAINST THE LAW, is my favorite.

In this story, youngest brother, Dev, has a problem making a commitment to any woman. (Sound familiar, ladies?) He becomes involved with a very independent woman (Lark) who recently "inherited" her sister's child to raise. The plot winds thru a gangland slaying, a kidnapping, drug cartels, Mexico and finishes off with Dev finally trying to come to grips with a possible "long term commitment" with Lark. I ALMOST had to feel sorry to hear his pain. Makes me believe that perhaps I've gained insight into an age-old problem.

And, of course, Kat never disappoints when it comes to steamy love scenes and loads of passion!! She hints that three of the characters in this story (Dev's ex-Marine buddies) are going to have their own stories as she expands the trilogy.

Enjoy!!

Another good story in the Stone Creek series. This time Ashley hooks up again with Jack McCall, the Special Forces heartthrob who broke her heart a year previously. He's back in town to make amends, but finds that he's been injected with a lethal drug that's killing his bone marrow.

We again see the familiar faces from the other Stone Creek novels...country singer Brad, his wife & new family...sister Livvie (the veterinarian that understands animals) and her husband, and twin sister Melissa--charging ahead with her legal career.

In this book, there's action, romance, and a bit of humor. It was enjoyable and a quick read. I wonder if it's going to be Melissa's story next???

And last but not least, it's the youngest brother's story. Austin has started getting severe back problems because of his hell-raising and bronco-busting cowboy ways. The doctor gives him a stern warning to just back off for a few months, or he'll live to regret it. So, Austin decides to come back to the Silver Spur ranch and his brothers, Garrett and Tate.

While the older brothers are dealing with the cattle rustlers, their fiancees are busy making plans for the double-wedding of the century in Blue River. Two of the McKettrick men are marrying two of the Remington girls, Julie and Libby. Questions are raised as to whether Austin and his former sweetheart, Paige, will be joining them...They were lovers during their high school years; however, the commitment had scared off Austin all those years ago. And it's clear that Paige hasn't forgiven him 10 years later.

A good book and finale to the trilogy.

Bad Boys of Summer: Luscious / It's About Time / Wish You Were Here
Review Date: 8/3/2009

Three cute and steamy stories by Erin McCarthy, Lori Foster and Amy Garvey. In "LUSCIOUS" by Lori, the heroine finds herself falling for a SWAT guy. In "IT'S ABOUT TIME" by Erin, the heroine, a ballbusting County Prosecutor, falls for a blue collar hung, and in "WISH YOU WERE HERE," a female photographer falls for the handyman. (And, he certainly is clever with his hands!!)

This book is guaranteed to get your motor revving...I gave it FIVE STARS!

Bad Boys on Board: My House, My Rules / Going Down? / A Fast Ride
Review Date: 3/8/2009

Three romantic stories about those adorable bad boys and the women that fall in love with them. The first story is by Lori Foster and called "My House, My Rules." It's about a tough-guy cop (an alpha male), he gets beaten and bruised pretty badly, and winds up taking a gal home who has a crush on him. The sex sizzles!

The second one, "Going Down", is by Donna Kauffman. I didn't care for it very much. It was too long and drawn out. Most of the action centered around an elevator malfunction, but the dialogue was plodding and too intellectual given the circumstances. Again, the sex was tintillating, but it was just too long.

I enjoyed the third story, "A Fast Ride" by Nancy Warren, the best. It had a cute plot about a biker who, upon running his bike into gramma's homemade speed bump in the road, wound up in her garden on top of the green beans. Her granddaughter performs mouth to mouth recussitation, and when the biker wakes up he thinks that she's his girlfriend. Since she's obviously smitten by the guy and he has amnesia, she decides to play along. The romance was toooooo hot, and the plot took a nice twist near the end.

Definitely a good read.

Bad Boys Over Easy: Fuzzy Logic / The Cupid Curse / Mesmerized
Review Date: 2/28/2008
Helpful Score: 1

This book contains three delightful and sexy stories. The first is "Fuzzy Logic." Ashley is a part time "personal party consultant." When a case of pink dildos arrives at her landlord's apartment, he can't figure out why she would need 12 of them, so he decides to investigate the matter. The second is the "Cupid Curse." It's a story of a gal that writes a letter to Cupid in an effort to get a heart throb. When Cupid gets her letter and goes to fullfill her request, he unfortunately shoots himself in the ass with his own arrow. So, Cupid and his gal friend are destined to fall in love with each other. The third story is "Mesmerized." In this one, a woman hypnotist tries to hypnotize a sexy male member of her audience. Unbeknownst to her, said male is a journalist seeking a sensational story about her and he tricks her into thinking she's hypnotized him. The fun starts when she realizes he's in a trance (fake one) but acts as tho he can't come out of it. She's forced to take him home...and romance is inevitable. I thought all 3 stories were clever and well written. A fun, quick read!

Banner O'Brien has a past that she prefers to keep hidden. However, when she meets the Corbin family, the truth comes back to haunt her. Banner meets the three Corbin brothers and falls in love with the oldest one--Adam. He's a doctor and takes her on as his helper. However, he has no idea of the ride that's in store for him. First, his brother, Jeff, is also in love with Banner. Second, he finds that she was married once before and divorced her husband. Third, she's very headstrong and jealous and suspicious of his monthly trips to the mountains with supplies and convinced that he has another woman.

Needless to say, Banner's first husband tracks her down and sees that she's married again. He becomes incensed and obsessed with revenge on Adam, her new husband, and Banner.

An interesting and passionate story. I believe it's the first book in the "Corbin" series. There's also "Corbin's Fancy" and "Memory's Embrace."

A delightful collection of 6 short stories...all with plenty of romance and passion. Linda Lael Miller's story (Batteries Not Required)...about B.O.B.--her battery operated boyfriend--was one of the cutest. "Sister Switch" by Susanna Carr was about two twins that exchange places shortly before one is to be maried. It was really different!! Strictly light-hearted reading.

Second book in the Wedding Quartet. The main star in the story is Emma. She's in charge of the flowers for this group of four friends that own and operate a wedding and special events planning business. She becomes involved with Jack...who has not only been her friend for many years, but he's like a brother to the rest of friends and does architect drawings for their business.

The romance between the two of them, tho stalled at first, comes on full steam ahead. But Emma learns that Jack doesn't encourage her to stay at his place, offer her a key to come and go as she pleases, etc. He's guarding his privacy and it ultimately leads to problems.

And, of course, you get to see how Mac and her fiancee Carter are doing. Then there's also the interaction between all the friends and a few of their events that get a bit crazy.

All in all, a nice romantic read.

London, England in the mid-1800's. It's a precarious place to be born if you're born "on the wrong side of the blanket." Tho a small part of society saw the brutality and cruelty in baby farming, very few reforms had been passed to change the fate of these babies. However, Mick Trewlove was one of the lucky ones. For the money, his surrogate mother agreed to care for him and later take in additional little ones who would become his sisters and brothers. A small rag-tag family with their own stories that will probably become one of Lorraine Heath's best series.

As Mick becomes powerful & influential, he can't leave his past behind. The "bastard" stigma follows him wherever he goes and he thinks of nothing other than getting his true father, the duke, to acknowledge him. Since the duke has since sired a second son (Kipwick), and taken in a ward (Aslyn), but refuses to sit down and speak to him, he decides to go after these two that are closest to the duke's heart. And so the plot unfolds.

There are some unexpected twists and turns. Some heartwarming moments and insights into human nature shared with the reader that only Lorraine Heath can do. A few laughs and a few tears. But the story moves quickly, and it's very difficult to put the book down. I finished it in a day and a few hours.

I can hardly wait to read the rest of the series!

Beyond the Threshold: There and Now / Here and Then (Beyond the Threshold, Bks 1-2)
Review Date: 7/26/2008

Two stories in this one...THERE AND NOW is the story of Elisabeth and Jon. She's from the 20th century and travels back in time using her eccentric aunt's pendant and falls in the love with a small town doctor in the 1800's. HERE AND THEN is the story of Elisabeth's cousin, Rue, and her romance to small town marshall Farley Hayes. Both stories are about time travelling between the two period and very interesting slant on this method of transportation. A good read.

This was an interesting, suspenseful story from Nora Roberts. Callie lives in Boston and is a young, divorced archaeologist. She's called in as a consultant when an excavation for a new housing development uncovers ancient human remains. While she's excited to join the new project in Maryland, she's upset to find out that her ex-husband has also signed up for the dig. They've only been divorced for a year, so there are still some hard feelings and unresolved issues between the two of them.

The two are joined by others and start unearting remains from 5,000 years ago. At the same time this is going on, her mother sees Callie on t.v. and contacts her. The only problem is that she never met this woman...she has a mother back in Boston and was never told by her family that she was adopted. After digging into her past, Callie learns that she was part of a black market adoption; she was stolen as a one-year old infant and placed with her current parents, who thought everything was legal.

At the same time that she's digging into her past, accidents and later on murder start happening at the excavation site. Rumors are that the land is cursed. But, the evidence points to the fact that somebody doesn't want Callie digging around in her past. She's starting to unravel a mystery that's almost 30 years old, and somebody wants her to stop.

There's friendship, romance, suspense and several different plot threads woven into this story. It'll keep you on your toes and surprise you--all the way to the last page. It's well worth the read!

The book started kinda slow. For the first 90 pages, we just read an analysis of what had happened in the first 8 pages of the book! Lots of characters were introduced at the start as well.

Once you get thru that, the tempo picks up. Main background is a mental institution. There's a catatonic escapee from a local cult group; she's pregnant and a killer is after her and the baby. There's also a minor plot where the cute cop falls for the head doctor.

Interesting story. Just would have been better if there had been more editing before it was mass produced in paperback.

First in the "SIGN OF SEVEN" trilogy. Three buddies, born on the 7th day of the 7th month in the same year, on their tenth birthday, make a pledge in blood at the "pagan stone" in the woods. Henceforth, every 7 years, the town is thrown into extreme violence...murder and suicide rates skyrocket, arose and people killed in fires increases, marital violence escalates, etc. Convinced that they accidentally unleased a demon, the buddies reconnoiter 21 years later. They're older and wiser and 3 female friends have joined them. They are certain that this is the year that the demon must be destroyed...at all costs. I'm looking forward to the next book, THE HOLLOW, which is due out in May, 2008.

A Bouquet of Babies: The Way Home / Family by Fate / Baby on Her Doorstep
Review Date: 3/1/2008

The Way Home - Linda Howard is about a mistress that falls in love with her sugar daddy. He made it clear he wanted to strings attached, so when she finds out that she's pregnant, she's prepared to walk away. Will he change his mind and offer marriage...or just walk away?

Family by Fate - Paula Detmer Riggs was pretty unique. A cop and Eliza share a sizzling weekend at a ski resort. They promise to meet up when they return home. However, Eliza becomes pregnant and the cop questions whether or not its his. She later learns that he's paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair; therefore pretending he wants nothing to do with her. Can he overcome his pride and admit he wants her and his child? The romance part was a bit different..but settles some questions I had if I were in that situation. The characters were credible and the story unusual. I enjoyed this one alot.

Baby on Her Doorstep - Stella Bagwell. An abandoned baby is left on Caroline's doorstep...but meant for her neighbor, the sexy Latino Joe Garcia. SInce she's always wanted a child, and still without a husband, Caroline sets to work on getting Joe to accept both his child and her love. He's never known true love in his lifetime, so it becomes a real challenge. A nice story that was hard for me to put down.
