I know, I know. Almost everyone has already read this little book, but I needed a quick read and, although I knew the plot b/c of the film, I was still struck by the heart-wrenching narrative, especially toward the end. As usual with a Sparks book, I even shed a few tears. Took me about 4 hours to read, maybe less.

In 1932, two North Carolina teenagers from opposite sides of the tracks fall in love. Spending one idyllic summer together in the small town of New Bern, Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson do not meet again for 14 years. Noah has returned from WWII to restore the house of his dreams, having inherited a large sum of money. Allie, programmed by family and the "caste system of the South" to marry an ambitious, prosperous man, has become engaged to powerful attorney Lon Hammond. When she reads a newspaper story about Noah's restoration project, she shows up on his porch step, re-entering his life for two days. Will Allie leave Lon for Noah? The book's slim dimensions and cliche-ridden prose will make comparisons to The Bridges of Madison County inevitable. What renders Sparks's (Wokini: A Lakota Journey of Happiness and Self-Understanding) sentimental story somewhat distinctive are two chapters, which take place in a nursing home in the '90s, that frame the central story. The first sets the stage for the reading of the eponymous notebook, while the later one takes the characters into the land beyond happily ever after, a future rarely examined in books of this nature. Early on, Noah claims that theirs may be either a tragedy or a love story, depending on the perspective. Ultimately, the judgment is up to readers?be they cynics or romantics. For the latter, this will be a weeper.

This is an older book, but if you read one great book this year-let this be the one. Good things come in small packages. A short novel of excellent quality. This was made into a movie-but as always, the book is better. A celebration of passion. An enduring love. This one will make you cry. A book you will not forget.....ever. This is one of those books that you must read before you die. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a standard romance, because it is not. A must read for everyone, regardless of what type of book you enjoy.

Made me CRY! I read this book in one sitting, then called my best friend and made her go get it immediately! She finished it that night and called me to yell at me the next morning because her eyes were still puffy!

I'm not usually a fan of books that jump around in time, but this one is an exception. The leaps from present-day into memory take the reader on an incredible journey into life and love.

I absolutely loved this book! I was turned on to Nicholas Sparks books when I read Message in a Bottle, I now own every book by this author. His writing hits you right where you can feel it the most.
Grab your tissues as you take the journey of Allie and Noah, and the destiny of love.

OMG This has to be the most wonderful love story EVER to be written! I cried, I laughed, I was jealous, I was angry! It Is about unconditional love in all it's glory. I feel like this is the dream when you think about how you want to be loved! If you haven't read it, READ IT!!!

Nicholas Sparks really touches the heart. I liked this book about a loving, lasting relationship from the perspective of an elderly man whose wife suffers from Alzheimer's disease.
Helpful Score: 2
This was my first Nicholas Sparks book, so I didn't know to expect the schmaltz, sentimentality, and plain improbability and predictability of the plot that apparently are hallmarks of his writing. This was nothing more than a Harlequin romance souped up with a fancy cover. I was mad that I finished it because it was so darn cheesy and hokey. I didn't care a whit for the characters and knew from the beginning they'd be together at the end.
All the women I know "looooooove Nicholas Sparks!" but I fail to see the allure. If all his books are as lame as this one, I do not want to read any more. Barf.

Simply wonderful. This book is a step above the movie. I loved it.

I must be the only person on the planet who didn't care for this book. A big portion of the story was set in 1946 & a lot of what I read just didn't seem consistant for that era which I guess distracted me from the characters. I also don't much care for a storyline that jumps around in time. No tears here but I was touched by the ending.

I was a little disappointed with this book. I felt it didn't give enough information on the characters.

I read this book on a flight back home from visiting my grandparents. I read the entire book on the flight. It was such an amazing story. It brought tears to my eyes. The book was so well written. Without saying too much, if you've ever had to deal with long-term illness, this book really hits it on the nail.

Came upon the movie while flipping channels...immediately caught my attention. The book is the best romantic story ever written from a man's perspective. Since I knew what was coming from having seen the movie, I cried most of the way through the book. I'm eager to read Sparks' other books.

I loved the movie so I decided to read the book. As much as I wish I could say that I loved it as well, it just isn't the case. I found the book at times painful to read, not because of the story line, but because of how it drug on. I was really disappointed in this book.

"Somewhere," muses Noah Calhoun, while sitting on his porch in the moonight, "there were people making love." Anyway, head elsewhere for Great Literature, but if you're in the market to get your heartstrings plucked, look no further. The Notebook, a Southern-fried story of love-lost-and-found-again, revolves around a single time-honored romantic dilemma: will beautiful Allison Nelson stay with Mr. Respectability (to whom she happens to be engaged), or will she hook up with Noah, the romantic rascal she left so many years ago? We're not telling, but you have two guesses and the first one doesn't count. Decades later, after Allison develops Alzheimer's, her beau uses "the notebook" to read her the story of the great love she's plumb forgot.

I saw the movie, which I liked a lot, then I read the book and I couldn't believe how much more there is to the story that wasn't included in the movie. This was the first book that ever made me cry! Just a wonderfully beautiful, romantic, and poignant story. Each of us should be so lucky to experience love like this in our lifetimes.

I read this book in one sitting in only four hours. The story and characters are very engaging. It is the only book I have read that I was actually sobbing! It is better than the movie, a definite MUST read for romance fans. I've read a lot of romance novels and this is like no other.

I admit to this being one of the best novels I have read in a long time. (In my opinion the movie does not do it justice.) Of course the plot is emotionally moving; yet, thee auther's writing is fantastic. for isntance; two lines: 1)"The romantics would call it a love story, the cynics would call it a tragedy. In my mind it's a little of both, and no matter how you choose to to view it in the end, it does not change the fact that it involves a great deal of my life and the path i've chosen to follow. I have no complaints .....", (3) 2) I walk on tiled floors, white in color and speckled wiht gray. Like my hair and the hair of most people here, though I'm the only only one in the hallway this morning ..... " (3)

In the part of Florida where I lived it's common for there to be a summer rainstorm with very few clouds in the sky and the sunshine still streaming down. Reading the end of this book reminded me of that because though there were tears in my eyes the feelings were mostly happiness and the appreciation of the beauty discovered and shared rather than of the sorrow that served to accentuate that beauty.
This is an idealized story of love discovered and shared. It's the quintessential romance novel and is worthy of all the acclaim that its garnered. While many would cite this as the epitome of "chick-lit", it's written by a man and told almost exclusively from a man's point of view.
This is a wonderful read and I'd recommend it to everyone. After reading the book I decided that it was time to dig up my copy of the DVD and re-watch the movie version which does respectable job of telling this story. Only now can I fully appreciate the irony of the packaging. Enclosed with the DVD is not the usual flyer for other movies by the same company, but a $1 off coupon for Kleenex tissues.

A fine idea that just turned into so much space-filling treacle. It seems the author had a quota of pages to fill for the publisher. I detected little effort on the author's part to tie the two phases of the book together emotionally or stylistically. There were some interesting notions about the specifics of Alzheimer's, but then of course we had to have a "miracle" in the husband's ability to beat the doctors at their game. Sheesh. This is a book that should have gone right to screenplay. I have a feeling the movie is an effective tearjerker.

This was the very first romatic novel that I loved. I have read this book many times. I was thrilled when the movie came out but its just not the same. (It never is, is it?) I love this story and how there is such a struggle for the characters. This is the best Nicholas Sparks book I have ever read.
A good book. I personally liked the movie better, but the book did bring tears to my eyes too. Overall, it's an enjoyable romance, whether you're familiar with the story or not.
better than the movie!
love story, you will love it. It didn't sell millions without a reason.
I love Nicholas Sparks. Always a good story.
Tear jerker! This book is definitely for the romantics out there!
Such a moving and excellent book. I picked it up after watching the movie and of course LOVE the book way more. there were a couple of chapters there that I had to read through tears it was so moving. If you liked the movie you'll enjoy the book.
Beautifully written. A duplicate of the movie. Love it!
The Notebook restored my faith in love that lasts a lifetime.
I smiled, reminisced and cried through this book. The first time I ever read it I bought five copies and sent to my nearest friends so that they too could enjoy the read. WONDEFUL!!!
So romantic! One of the greatest love stories you will ever read. Wonderful!
I loved it! Cried like a baby!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! I was totally in tears at the end. Recommended, even if you have seen the movie.
I am not ashamed at all to say I enjoyed Nicholas Sparks' wonderful book, "The Notebook", and its equally-impressive movie version. The tale is simple and classic, about young love, loss, reignition, and tragedy, and all readers are able to connect. Men who wish not to read this novel are punishing themselves - told from the man's point of view, this book is highly relatable to males of all mature ages. I do recommend this book, especially if you're looking for a quick read that isn't mindless. Also, keep the tissues handy, especially if you're easily saddened - this book will force tears out of you even if you don't want them to come!
great book...very moving
a truly touching book... true love conquers all.. i enjoyed this story and author.
I loved this book! Great love story! I couldn't put it down (except to blow my nose!lol)
just loved this book!!!
Another great book by Nicholas Sparks. I couldn't put it down...we should all be loved as much as the woman in this book.
Liked the book; loved the movie. Not too many I can say that about.
I am not a Nicholas Sparks fan. I just saw the movie about a year ago on TV and fell IN LOVE with this story. It hit so close to home for me because my grandfather died in 2009 from alzheimers. And the love story and time period in which the main story takes place. Well I went and rented the DVD and watched it with the comentary. This story was based on a real couple! I had to read the book! So I got it and read it in a day and a half. Well this was the only time I can ever remember liking the movie more than a book. And reminded me why I am not a fan of this author. Don't waste your time, see the movie. The only reason why I gave it a 3 is bc of the movie.
i hated the ending to this movie but found the book for $1 at the swap meet. and loved it! beautifully written, and the story goes into more detail about the characters. they dont just die suddenly together- which is so not real, and what i hated about the movie. if you like love stories, this is the best. its full of humor, love, romance, and sadness. such a great story.
favorite book and movie
JUST LIKE ALL OF NICHOLAS SPARKS BOOKS, I LOVED THIS ONE TOO.
What an amazing love story.
One of the most beautiful love stories I ever read. Would recommend for to anyone who loves a good romance. This is one of those books you could read time and time again.
Great book, powerful message, great for those days when you want to belive on love again.
way to sappy for me
A great love story. Get the tissues ready because it is a tear jerker. Loved this book!

Great book.
If you enjoyed the movie, you will love the book. A great, emotional read.
A classic love story told in Nicholas Spark's fashion. You will laugh, cry and feel the love from this book!!
Wonderful!
I cried and cried. Great story, however, "The Wedding" was a total let-down (the sequel).
Bring the Kleenex, the ending was really strong
WONDERFUL love story.... tender and timeless... i laughed and I cried... a truly memorable read
This book is a 5, beautiful story.
it made me cry
Nice read. Enjoy!
I love everything by Nicholas Sparks. He writes beautifully. This is a wonderful story about life and love. Fabulous!!
Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story -- it becomes an experience to remember forever. THE NOTEBOOK is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again...
Easy read, not the best written, but I still got sappy and cried like a baby.
Incredibly sweet love story that reminds us that love isn't just for the young.
great love story...a real tear jerker
The movie was better than the book. I did watch the movie before I read the book so maybe that made a difference.
loved the movie and loved the book more!
Great book. It is hard to put down; it's a very touching book.
The first book by Nicholas Sparks I ever read....and still my FAVORITE! Such an incredible love story. I think I read it in an afternoon...I couldn't put it down! You have to finish it up with "The Wedding" which is the sequal. Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors.
It's Nicholas Sparks! Need I say more???? Great book!!
Have the tissues handy! The book was way better than the movie.
Typical Nicholas Sparks writing. Just so-so story.
At first I wasn't sure that I would like this book, I don't usually enjoy historical fiction, but was pleasently surprised. This book was a beautiful love story! I look forward to reading The Wedding next.
Not a fan of this book - although I'm about the only one who has thought that!
Wonderful book; as always from Nicholas Sparks!
This book is so touching. I just loved it. It will make you cry (but in a good way), yet is a fast read...perfect for upcoming summer vacations!
A beautiful love story as only Nicholas Sparks can tell.
A good read!
A beautiful story about true love and how it endures. A wonderful book that is hard to put down.
Well I think most of you know this story line. I am just a little behind the times. Its very sweet and sad. I liked it even though I am not the most sappy person out there.
Both joyful and sad. A real emotional roller coaster.
This was a wonderful book I couldn't put it down. I finished in less then a day. Wonderful love story!
A sweet story!
Better than the movie!
This was Sparks' first novel. I really loved it. It was a new and different way of romance, not the common ones that we usually see in the supermarkets. It was about finding your true love and being committed throughout everything. His other novels however, are the same now, but I still give his first novel kudos.
Loved it!! I have read this book three times!!
I always thought that this was a romance between young people and so it sat on my shelf until I was in the right mood for that kind of book. It sat there for quite some time until, recently, I felt the need for a change in genre and decided to pick it up. I couldn't put it down--it mesmerized me. The story is a romance between young people, but it's so much more than that. It's a true love story--not just a story about true love, but a story that defines love, clarifies it and shows the enduring power of it. This book is about love, faith, trust, hope and miracles. I loved it.
I don't know that there is anyone out there who hasn't already read this book, but, just in case, I'm going to try and avoid any spoilers. This story touched me so deeply that I'm more inclined to write about my emotions than the substance of the book itself. In some places, I felt my heart warm and happiness bloom inside me. In others, I cried so hard I had to stop reading because I couldn't read the words anymore. I didn't expect to feel this way over a story--not many stories have touched me this deeply--but I can't say enough about how much I loved it.
The Notebook was, in short, amazing. It made me feel and believe and wish and hope and dream. I realize now that I have this love in my life and I can only hope it continues to grow and sustain. Love won't be denied and it can create miracles.

great love story, from young to old, health to sickness, and shows us what is important in life.
This is a truly inspiring love story and its written by a man! I read the book and had to see the movie...of course the book is always better but both will bring tears to your eyes. A truly wonderful experience!!
This is a beautifully told love story and the strong connection real love brings between two people. Nicholas Sparks' attention to detail and heartbreaking description of loving someone with Alzheimer's has altered my view of family members who do and who have suffered from the disease.
great book
great book, great movie!
I seen the movie before reading the book and still I have to say the book is so much better I finished it in two evenings it was great. Loved this book!!!!
This book was excellent! It was so romantic and such a page turner! The movie was just as good (which usually isn't the case!)
This was a very fast read book. It is an awesome love story. If you have fallen in love, this book is for you.
Have a box of kleenex handy when reading this book. What a love story!
The book was great, and the movie was good too! Both products made me cry.
I had to keep a box of kleenex handy to read this book. But, it was worth it. It is a story that touches your heart.
both book and movie are good
This book shows the commitment of two people to love each other through thick or thin.
Keeps you reading, tugs at your heart and reminds you that sometimes we have to listen to our heart and not our head!
Such a precious love story. I really enjoyed reading this.
This book was so hard for me to finish. I would have to say this is one time I loved the movie more.
This audio book was ok. I listened to most of it but lost interest at the end.
This is a beautiful love story. This is one that I will read again many times.
One of the best love stories I have ever read. With this book Nicholas Sparks became one of my favorite authors.
This is very much like the movie, beautifully told.
This particular book is in a larger print, and one corner has been bent/worn off (not sure how as the book was given to me this way), but it did not at all affect the ability to read the pages.

This story definitely was a tear jerker. Such a lovely story of young love that is meant to surpass unlimited lifetimes.
You also appreciate the love letters they write to each other. Before emails and techology, hand written letters are still the ultimate gesture of true love.

I expected this book to be better than it was, especially after all the great reviews it listed on the inside. I was very disappointed. The book needed to have more written of when Noah and Allie were young, while still keeping everything that was already included in the book.
A touching book about a lifetime of love. Even when facing death, the sacred bonds of marriage only get stronger. Quick and easy read, which will leave you feeling hopeful and peaceful as you face the last of your golden years with your spouse.
This book has some slight water damage but is still in good condition.
If you are looking for a book that will make you weepy this is the book for you.
What can I say this is an amazing story of love that defies all odds and stands the test of time. Most people will go their whole life without ever knowing that kind of love. I think I experienced every emotion there is while reading this book. In the end this was one of the most unforgetable love stories I have ever read. Must read!!!
His first book, and one of his best. Couldn't put it down.
wonderful book.
could not put this book down ! It's wonderful !
The best love story I ever read! Better than the Movie.
Another great book by Nicholas Sparks - I'm so surprised each time I read one of his books that it's a man that is writing them! :) No offense to him - just surprising - in a great way. This again was a great book and was close to the movie - I felt the book was again slightly better.
I loved this book. The book is so much better then the movie.
I made the mistake of watching this movie before I read the book. Normally I'm not disappointed by a book because of a movie, but this one I am. If you have seen the movie, the book will loose you alittle. It was still a good book, but if you've seen the movie, then you have to have an open mind and forget the movie.
A very sweet love story
I LOVE THIS BOOK!! ROMANTIC, FUNNY, COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! A MUST READ! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES BY NICHOLAS SPARKS! LOVE IT!

THE NOTEBOOK is the romance novel of this generation!
Ali and Noah are two very different people, or characters, depending on how you think about it. Ali is from a wealthy family that thinks very highly of themselves, and Noah was raised by his father and has had to work for every penny he has. Which is not much. The characters come alive and it is almost like you personally know both of them. It's amazing! Ali takes a vacation to New Bern where Noah lives. As the summer progresses, their relationship grows stronger and stronger and they fall in love. They fight all the time, but for some crazy reason they are madly in love.
Then the summer ends.
Noah and Ali are devastated that she has to leave. Her parents won't let her stay because they think that she is too good for him. It's absolutely devastating. He writes her letters, which she never receives because her mother intercepts and keeps them. She thinks that Noah has forgotten her.
Then World War II begins.
Noah is deployed for a couple of years and comes home when the war is over. During this time, Ali gets engaged to Lon, a lawyer who her parents approve of because he is socially acceptable. Noah buys an old plantation and fixes it up, and he and the house wind up in the newspaper. So Ali decides that she needs to go see Noah before she gets married, even though she hasn't seen him in fourteen years. At their reunion, they realize that they never fell out of love.
Read the book to find out who Ali chooses, Noah or Lon!

So Ali decides that she needs to go see Noah before she gets married, even though she hasn't seen him in fourteen years. At their reunion, they realize that they never fell out of love.
Read the book to find out who Ali chooses, Noah or Lon!
A wonderful story.
Absolutely Awesome! This was the first Nicholas Sparks book I read and I knew instantly he was someone I would follow for a long time. Heart warming, easy reading, beautiful story. I loved it!
An extremely romantic, loving book. A must read!
I thought this was an excellent book. I read it before the movie came out and it was just as emotional. The book is a real tear jerker and a great read.
Loved it! I can't wait to read the next one in line, The wedding
I watched the movie before I read the book. I wish I had read the book 1st. I think I would have enjoyed it more. This is a really well written. If you have not seen the movie then I recommend you read this book.
Exellent book of 50 years as a couple.
Wow, what a great book! The Notebook really tore at my heart strings! Now I can't wait to see the movie.
Even better than the film..., and the film was amazing.
A sweet love story.
It is such a great read I loveed this book and am not a huge fan of romance. it is so beautifully written.
I loved this book! Even better than the movie!
This is a really good love story about a guy named Noah and a girl name Allie. They both come from very different backgrounds one from a wealthy family and the other from a poor family.
They meet and fall in love but there is some opposition from Allie's family, and their love is tested when Allie's family moves away.
I won't give the ending away but the book was very good, and the movie was pretty good too.

One of my favorites.
A very touching love story. You won't forget this story. It is a classic, which will never grow old.
Like all his books, good but sappy. I find I can read his books once, but not twice.
A wonderful love story, in the truest form, a love that endures time and adversity. Uplifting and heartbreaking.
I watched the movie first so the book was not what I expected but it was still a romantic read.
It is a touching love story of love that endures despite the trials that life throws at us. I liked it better than the movie.
Inviting story that will warm your heart.
Loved this book!!! Get out the kleenex!
this book is so wonderful!!! much better than the movie even though i love the movie as well!!!!!! i would recommend it to everyone!!!!! its so touching!!!
A quick, easy read, romantic and fun.
This is a beautiful touching love story.
ITS EXACTLY LIKE THE MOVIE!!!
This book was SO MUCH BETTER than the movie!!! Excellent !!!
This book is by far the best romantic love story out there. If you have seen the movie and you like it, I suggest you please please read the book. The book is 120% better with lots more included then the movie
I loved this book through laughs and tears. It's very touching story about how love can endure through hardship.
This is the best romance that I've read for a long time. Beautifully written, powerful story that will bring tears to your eyes and hope to your heart.
Excellent book! I read this book long before the movie came out and told everyone I knew what a wonderful story it is. Will make you laugh and cry.
This love story is so touching, it'll leave you tearing up quite a lot! I've seen the movie version, it's good ... quite good, but really ... the book is even better. I'm a sucker for a good love story!
believe this was the first book Nicholas Sparks wrote. By far the best of his books. It is a very tender love story about a love that lasts through many years. I wept at the end. Lovely story.
This is a wonderful book. I started it last night and didn't put it down until I was done. It's a very easy read and a definite recommended read whether you've seen the movie or not. The book and movie are similar. As much as I loved the movie, it's one of my favorites, I think the book is even better. Keep a box of tissues nearby.
**** This was an exciting book about love and relationships.
I enjoyed the book because it is a touching love story/ I also have the DVD/ I give it 3 stars
This is one of my favorite books. I have read all of Nicholas Sparks' books. I hope someone else will enjoy this book as much as I did.

A wonderful love story.
This was the first book I had read from Nicholas Sparks. I had read it even before the movie came out and this book brought me to tears. It was one of the greatest love stories I've ever read.
The story of an older couple how they metand the bumps along the way. Made into amovie. A good read!!
What a great book.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!! SOO ROMANTIC!! I HAVE THE MOVIE EDITION COVER!! BUT THe ISBN MATCHES THE COVER POSTED!!
A wonderful love story; much better than the movie.
Anyone who thinks this movie was great, must read the book to really understand what they were really seeing. Great Great Great
this book is much better than the movie, your not human if you don't cry
The book that was made into a movie, absolutely loved every second of it. Couldn't put it down. A time tested love that prevails!
I usually don't like romances but this one is one of those exceptions for me. Written with lyrical beauty, the story of two lovers who lose each other, then find each other again, is so sweet, it touched my heart. Since they're not always shown jumping in and out of bed, the love they have for each other really shines through. The ending is bittersweet - I almost cried - but is the perfect ending for this book and for these 2 characters. Definitely recommend! Plus it's a short read!
The basis for the recent movie. Haven't seen it, so I don't know how they compare. The book was touching and very romantic.
I didn't think this book was as good as everyone told me it was. I had a hard time getting into it. I did like the story in the end though.
At 31, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At 29, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle...
This is a very good book! I couldn't put this one down.
A very believeable, touching account of two loving people!
If you thought the movie was good, you will LOOOOOOVE the book. I stayed up all night reading this.
Just crying just thinking about it!!! Really great read!!! Another Nicholas Sparks spectacular... movie made from this book. If you love Nicholas Sparks, you will LOVE this story!!!
A wonderful book! I was crying towards the end. It is an unbelievable story of true love.
I finished reading this in public and embarrassed myself beyond any moment in my life by my uncontrollable sobbing. If you can, don't watch the movie before reading the book.
GREAT LOVE STORY, A MUST READ!!!!!
Good tear-jerker. I thought it was better than the movie.
Good book, easy read. Haven't seen the movie yet, but i'm curious to see it now. A very passionate book.
I saw the movie first and altho there are some differences between the two, I really enjoyed this book (paperback). At just 239 pages, it was a quick read. For probably the last 50 pages, I was either crying, smiling or both. I AM a romantic so this one really pulled at the heart-strings...even AFTER seeing the movie first.
I rather wish I'd read the book before seeing the movie, but I enjoyed both immensely.
Better than the movie...big surprise.
inspiring tale of love.
read this for tips on falling in love.
read this for tips on falling in love.
What a sweet and romantic book. I read it and couldn't help but crying. This book brings a different light to the phrase "happily ever after". Sweet and sad and wonderful all at the same time.
This book is as amazing as the movie! Don't miss the follow-up: The Wedding.
This was the book that started me reading all of Nicholas Sparks' novels. It is truly heartwarming. Written with the ease that only Sparks can write with. Highly recommended!
Nicholas Sparks, need I say more? It continues to amaze me that a man can write such amazing romance. Cried my eyes out!
I have read this several times and even had to rebuy it so my daughter could read it.
This book is one full of innocent romance ... it's hard to put down!
this copy has a different cover than pictured.
The novel the movie was based on. A definite Must-Read for lovers of the Romance genre!
And, BONUS, if you watched the movie, the book still isn't ruined for you! As always, the book is MUCH better than the movie, difficult as that was in this case. :)
I DO have two smokers in my home, so please take that into consideration if you have smoke sensitivities.

One of the best that I have read in a long time. So wonderfully written, I might just read it again before someone requests it!
A sweet romance
This is the absolutely the best book Nicholas Sparks has written. Rarely do writers tell a story of a lifelong love, as this does. It is beautifully written.
A must read.
Such a lovely story!
This story is so sweet and is how love should be! To death do us part! Sometimes a little bit sappy, but overall so wonderful!
I believe that this was one of the most romantic..and realistic stories I've ever read. The descriptions of the characters and places were well done. The author kept my attention as well as relaxed me.
I am a hopeless romantic and I have enjoyed every book by Nicholas Sparks that I have read. I love feeling every emotion that the character feels. I was warned that I would cry during this book and indeed I did. If you enjoy reading about true love, you will enjoy this book.
Best book I have EVER read!!!!!
way better than the movie
I love Nicholas Sparks and I loved this book. It is such a romantic story.
Very enjoyable, quick read. I liked the book but enjoyed the movie more.
This was a great story. I read this in less than 24 hrs!!
Great book, nice easy read. Recommend highly!!
I read this in a day and a half - wonderful compelling love story!
Great love story.
I enjoyed the story.
The perfect love story!
If you like a "feel good" feeling...this is for you. Sad, at times, but overall a celebration of life.
Is an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love,a story of miracles that will stay with you.
Good read. As all his books are.
This is a great book. I loved the story.
Excellent Book. I throughly enjoyed this story. I loved this story.
This is a beautiful story about the love of a boy & girl and how it remains even though they don't see each other for years. This is the first Nicholas Sparks I've read and I'll return to him when I'm in the mood for a warm fuzzy book. It was a little bittersweet because it did discuss the effects of Alzheimers Disease on families, but I really enjoyed it.
Get out the tissues!!
This book left me wanting to know more about the couple. I felt like it stopped way too soon and didn't really fill in all the information that I wanted.
A very touching book. Another great book by Nicholas Sparks.
what a wonderful book, every one should read it
This is a wonderful book about love. I would recommend it to everyone.
I loved the story, This is one of my favorite books of Nicholas Sparks, next to Message in the Bottle. The author never fails to stir up the emotions in you.
I loved this book. It was such an easy book to get into and I think that everyone should read it.
Very good book! Second favorite by Sparks!
This is the story that made me fall in love with Nicholas Sparks. The amazing love these two people share in this story is just breath taking. While it is a story of love it is also a story of heartbreak, but it will touch your heart like no other in the end.
I recommend this book for the hopeless romantic of any age !
I recommend this book for the hopeless romantic of any age !
This book was a wonderful love story, that painted a picture I am sure everyone dreams of having. I loved the characters and how intense their love and passion was for each other. It was refreshing to see how small things matter so much and hold so much meaning. I was sad and happy while reading the story, and once I finished reading it, I felt good all over.
excellent book- much better than the movie
This was a great book. It was so much better than the movie. There were many happy tears as I read about the power of their love for each other. I just hope that I will feel that when I am old and gray.
I love the story of this book, but was a little disappointed in the writing. Usually I love Nicholas Sparks stories, but the writing in this one just wasn't up to par and was very sappy and odd. Seemed like it was written very quickly or something.
very quick read. I finished it in one afternoon
very quick read. I finished it in one afternoon
WONDERFUL STORY.
Wonderful!! A real tearjerker that you cannot put down. If you love romance and love stories, this is a must read!
Love the movie and I really love the book. It's different than the movie of course but I think it's written very well, and give's you more and another side. Still a tear jerker tho. Can't wait to read the new one he got's out.
This is a great book. I read it in one day.
LOVED THE BOOK!!! A definite keeper...but time to declutter
WOW this book was great get a box of tissue's ready.
Loved the book, loved the movie.
"The Notebook" is one of the most beautiful stories ever written. What James Patterson did for thrillers Nicholas Sparks does for romance: he elevates it, drenching it with a richness unfathomable. I cannot believe that this story is fiction; it is so good that it has to be true. True love is real.
Very emotional and touching.
A heart tugging story that makes you take to heart the terms never regret.
Very good love story. Very short read I finished it in one day, couldnt put it down.
The movie is not as good as the book, however both made me cry
I absolutely LOVED this book! One can only hope in a lifetime to find the special love with someone. Remarkable! Gives me hope!
This is the 2004 cover art version from the major motion picture. One of my favorite stories of enduring love.
At thirty-one Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twent-nine, Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she can't stop thinking about Noah who stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph and may even have the power to create a miracle.
Have not always been a Sparks fan, but this book was excellent.
If you like a story that will captivate your heart then this is the one
Better than the movie!
Beautiful love story that shows that romance can last forever. Not recommended for children.
Great love story!

This is a beautiful story. Everyone should read it!
Now made into a movie, this book is about a boy and a girl who fall in love as teenagers, and their ups and downs through out the years. I REALLY enjoyed the movie, so I had to read the book as well. It was good!
This is a very enjoyable read.
Classic N Sparks!!! GREAT!! BOOK BETTER THAN THE MOVIE!!!
A great book.
Most people have seen the movie, never saw it but books are better!
A beautiful love story.
his books are always great
Really good love story. Didn't care for the detailed sex scene in the middle of the book.
What a heart-warming story of love that endures all. It is so poetic and the type of love every woman dreams of. It is tender as this couples relationship matures with time and they share their life with children and each other. The passion is stilled by the deeper love and devotion that meshes these characters. The sadness is only comes as the reader witnesses the ravages of time, age and illness as it takes it tolls on the female character, but we are reminded love still lives in this couples heart as they face one challenge after another in order to remain together. It makes me cry thinking of this story. It is as beautiful as it poignant. Nicholas Sparks has a real gift for writing a story so real and believable you might know someone just like Noah and Allie. I fear the movie doesn't do the story justice. It is a must read for those who believe love still conquers all.

There has never been a more beautiful love story. Every married couple must read this book. It will change your life!
WHAT A LOVE STORY... YOU'LL CRY WHEN YOU READ THIS ONE. THEY MEANT TILL DEATH DO US PART...
I LOVED this book and I am normally a thriller reader. I made everyone I knew read it. You will not be able to put it down!
Not my type book. Sensitive and commanding for those who like the romantic type.
Fantastic book!So much better than the movie!
excellent book for ended differently than the movie though still an excellent read.
Great book.
I HAVE to go see the movie.. the book had me crying. Dont miss this one!

This is such a romantic pageturner.
Good book. Met Nicholas Sparks at a book signing and he stated that his books are not romance novels as they don't always end "happily ever after". Anyway I enjoy his books.
great book!
One of the best authors in my time.
The lyrical beauty of this touching love story will captivate the heart of every reader

Wonderful book, this is one of my favorite authors. Very fast read, but memorable characters.
i love this story, its one of a kind, something you could read over and over again!!! Sparks has captured the true meaning of neverending Love.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. This is one of my favorites. I have the movie too! Anything by Nicholas Sparks is a must read.
A bit different than the movie, but it still tells a great story about two soul mates.
Heartwarming story of the power of LOVE. After a decade apart love endures---this book will tug at your heartstrings and bring tears so have the tissues handy.

Wonderful tearjerker about the endurance of true love.
Incredible love story. A good read through the night book
This one of the most moving books of 1996 and its 2004 movie made this book a fast number one romance of 2005. You won't be able to put it down until you have finished it from cover to end. This is the first book of a series for Nicholas Sparks with The Wedding to follow. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting a deep touching love story that really inspires you to reach out to those you love.
A great love story
This book is a very touching tale. I would recommend reading the book before watching the movie, which is also good.
a beautiful and touching love story
This was one of those books that, after reading, you just feel good.
*the cover picture on my book is different than the one with this listing*
GREAT story. Wonderful love story.

Wonderful story, I read the sequil first, ane liked it a bit better, but this helped me understand the love story. I recommend this for all Nicholas Sparks fans. I'm on a mission to read all of his books.
I loved this book, it was better than the movie. I finished it while flying home from Hawaii. I always when leaving Hawaii but I cried double the tears. It's a lovely story.
wonderful book, easy to read, hard to put down
Good book! Much better than the movie.
Easy read and one of the best books ever
Great, quick, romantic read!
Much better than the movie.
This story is awesome. It's different from the movie in a few places, but clears up other things that happen. I read it in about 2 days because it really is a smooth read. Nicholas Sparks must be a Christian, but he does get into the sex scene a bit.
wonderful, moving story. loved it!
I am a Nicholas Sparks fan, and this is a classic
Awesome love story. I couldn't put it down.
Throughly enjoyed this book. Plenty of passion, romance, love and memories.
love story extraordinaire
A lovely romantic book as is this authors specialty!

Great love story
This book was pretty good. I didn't see the movie so I can't compare the two. I think a walk to remember was better.
Excellent book!!
A great story of love lost, and then found!
a quick pleasent read
Most of the time the book is better than the movie. I often wonder if the order in which you indulge sways your judgement one way or the other. The movie the notebook, is an amazing movie, one of the best love stories, in my opinion ever told. I expected the book to be better. The beginning, the courtship and early on in their relationship is cut somewhat short in this book. However, the book is still a masterpiece in it's own way. It is still great, just in some different way. It is definitely worth the read.
an all time fav, well written, the story jumps off the page and drags you into it.
A stunningly beautiful read - a story of real and lasting love.
I loved this story. It began when the two people were young and mistakes were made. The woman is about to be married and remembers her first love. She wants to see if the love she felt was true as the memory. The story goes on until the two of them are in a nursing home and the devotion continues. A beautiful love story which demonstrates the destruction of Alzhiemers Tears were always welling up in my eyes.
It was a great book better than the movie
Best romance ever
Read this a long time ago.
Loved it!
Loved it!
I'm not a Nicholas Sparks fan; I find him too sacharine. My daughters, on the other hand, loved it.
Consensus among three readers: Not too bad. Didn't keep concentration on story at high level. Kind of sad.

Mine has a different cover!
The kind of love we all wish for but probably never achieve. Wonderfully written.
heartwarming love story
This man can tell a story and even though a lot of sadness, ends happy!
Bought book but seen movie before could read book so here it is. Love story thru the years, laugh and cry..

Excellent Love story. My favorite Nicholas Sparks Book.
This is a library discard, hard cover book.
This book was really good. I enjoyed the motion picture as well.
This book was engaging and filled with lots conflict but in the end all is good.
This is a wonderful love story. But, if you have already seen the movie, then the book won't grab you the same way. You have to be able to read this, without knowing how it ends. So, read this before you watch the movie.
"That's my sweetheart in there. Wherever she is, that's where my home is." "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks is a strong loving book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good love book. Noah Calhoun was a young man in love, who got his heart stolen by Allie Hamilton. Even though the love they both shared couldn't last forever, Noah tried everything he could to keep Allie his. Many things came across them that made it hard for them to continue loving each other. Allie had to move away and they both found new people they both loved. Both of their lives changes a lot, but nothing can separate the love they both have for each other. Will the share the rest of their lives together? Or will Noah and Allie not get back together? You will just have to read the book to find out.
The Best Book I read in a very long time.
Great love story.
great story! heart warming
A great book to read.
I enjoyed this book very much.
Great love story
My cover showes a pourch but number and author are the same. this book will leave you with a very good feeling. Love-enduance-patients
Swoon city. Even if you saw the movie first, this is still a good read. You'll love this movie if you ever felt you missed out on a good one..... If you can relate to the story, you will no doubt need tissues.
Good book. Sad. Like most of his books.
I love Nicholas Sparks novels. Sweet, sad, happy - such a range of emotions he invokes.
loved it, but the wedding follows it.
I really just didn't like it. I have never seen the movie. It was overly idealistic and the characters were cheesy and one dimensional. I know I know I know.. soo many people adore this book and author. I just don't get it. I will read one more of his books to see if this story just wasn't for me.
SPOILER ALERT - DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE SOME HINTS ON PLOT!!!
I did not like this book. I do not want to add spoilers here, but will just say that enjoying a love story, and the subsequent years of happiness, only to be smacked in the face with end of life illness is totally unsexy and not at all entertaining. I am all for books about hardships and difficulties, drama and overcoming adversity, etc., but this story seemed to totally negate the many years of happiness for a few years of hardship.

I read it when it just came out, and I was 22. Read it again a few months ago, and I'm 35. It was much better when I was younger. Not bad, just not as amazing as I remembered it being.
Another Amazing book by Nicholas Sparks!
Different cover, same book.
I thought the movie was better, but I saw it before I read it.
I read this book in only one day several years ago. A lovely story. My favorite Sparks book.
My wife read this book, and she said it was enjoyable.
I received two of these books for a gift. So instead of setting Them in my library. I would love to set one free.
Everyone of Sparks books O really enjoyed.
Everyone of Sparks books O really enjoyed.
very good book
From the back cover, "I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough. And so begins one of the most poignant and compelling love stories you will ever read ..."
The movie was really good, but the books goes into so much more that it is fantastic. If this book does not make you cry, you probably aren't still breathing.
A great book!
one of the best books i have ever read!
I found the book to be very disappointing after watching the movie.
Different cover art.
A different book from Patterson!
The Notebook I have has a different cover is slightly used but all the pages are there, it is clean no markings The cover is a little worn on the edges
