Alex Cross is asked to investigate the murder of an actress in Los Angeles, and an email sent to the Los Angeles Times that has details about the murder, signed by Mary Smith. More killings and more emails follow. Alex Cross and the LAPD must find a pattern to these murders before Mary Smith sends another chilling update.

I loved this mystery. It's must better than the last few books in the series.

The latest Alex Cross mystery and it is a page-turner. Alex is on vacation but called to look into murders that are preceded by the murderer emailing a news reporter of his intentions. It is set in Hollywood and the LAPD and FBI are at odds on how to solve these killings. Really great story and kept me guessing.

MARY MARY WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK. I FINISHED IT THIS MORNING OVER LOOKING THE LAKE AND ENJOYING SOME COFFEE. THE LAST 140 PAGES WERE GREAT AND REALLY WRAPPED EVERYTHING UP FAST. I HAVE BEEN WAITING TO READ THIS BOOK AND IT WASN'T WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE BUT IT WAS A GOOD BOOK. THE HYPE OF THE BOOK WAS MORE THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS WHEN I READ IT BUT PATTERSON PULLED IT OFF AND IT WAS A GREAT ENDING THE WHOLE ENDING!!! IT IS A MUST READ CROSS BOOK. KEEP THE SERIES COMPLETE AND READ THEM ALL.

Someone is murdering Hollywood's A-list. Her calling card: "You've got mail." FBI agent Alex Cross is asked to investigate the shooting of a top actress.. and an e-mail sent to the Los Angeles Times with shocking details about the murder, signed Mary Smith. The enjoyable storyline is about a sicko serial killer who is self proclaimed as the "the Storyteller", who proceeds to knock off successful Hollywood women and mothers, and then sending emails from one "Mary Smith" sent to the LA Times explaining the murders in detail. Competition between the FBI and LAPD's pursuits is a common footnote to much of the proceedings. The end, will totally surprise you by the identity of the perpetrator. I truly find myslef caught up in the bits about Cross and his kids and I get as much caught up into their lives as I do the murder cases. THis is another good book from Patterson and a tremendous suspense that is hard to put down.

Patterson gets better with every book! As usual, Alex Cross has to deal with both a genius-level criminal and problems in her family life. How does he do it? Well, actually, he handles things quite well, although it doesn't seem so at times. Patterson brings his characters to life in a way few authors can. You'll find yourself genuinely caring about Cross, Nana Mama, the children and the victims. And maybe even for Mary. Recommended.

From Booklist
Last seen in London Bridges (2004) chasing a terrorist, Washington, D.C., PD detective turned FBI agent Alex Cross is enjoying a much-needed vacation at Disneyland with his family when he's called in by the FBI to consult with the LAPD on a high-profile murder case. A-list actress Antonia Schifman has been slain, her face so badly cut up that she's almost unrecognizable. The murder isn't random; an L.A. Times gossip columnist has received a series of e-mails from a woman named Mary Smith, taking responsibility for the killing of Antonia, her chauffeur, and a well-known female movie producer. Cross studies the e-mails, which make reference to Mary's ordinary appearance and her fixation on the perfect families, particularly the children, of both women. When another prominent woman is slain, Cross is sucked into the case full time, jeopardizing the outcome of the custody battle he's involved in over his youngest son. As Cross studies the e-mails and patterns of the killer, he realizes he can't be certain of anything, even the gender of Mary Smith. The thrills in Patterson's latest lead to a truly unexpected, electrifying climax. Kristine Huntley

Protags: Alex Cross
Setting: Los Angeles, Hollywood, Washington D.C.
First sentence: "Act One, Scene One, the Storyteller thought to himself, and couldn't hold back the dizzying rush of anticipation."

I thought this book was typical Patterson fashion. There are some important side stories that happen that will change the course of future books. I kept waiting for the "A-ha!" moment where the storyline and killer was clarified for me but it never came. It was a quick read however so not too much of my life was lost to it.

You'll just have go for the ride on this one. The killer -nicknamed in Patterson Style - THE STORYTELLER isn't someone who is well developed as a character. We don't get to guess or try to solve THIS ONE.

I've always felt it holds an author back from writing a good mystery. I always enjoy a twist I wasn't expecting and here was the killer right under your nose and you never saw it coming. I think he /or who ever wrote Roses are Red did a good job of that one.

Alex tires me out with his woman problems LOL.

Patterson's short chapters make this a quick read, if you follow Alex Cross then you definitely will want to read this one.

FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the director. A top actress has been shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the LA Times receives a e-mail recounting the murder in shocking detail, signed Mary Smith. This is a good book by Patterson, maybe because it was written by him and not with someone else.

Great James Patterson. Story does tend to get a bit long towards the end with a lot of unnecessary information; however, overall a great read. James Patterson never dissappoints.

This book was ok. I am not much of a modern reader, so I am not a very good judge of it. I like Agatha Christie & Jane Austen better. :)

Although I didn't find MARY, MARY as riveting as the first Alex Cross novels KISS THE GIRLS or ALONG CAME A SPIDER, I was still glad to see Mr. Cross back in action--in his private and professional life.

While on a long-awaited, and definitely well-earned, vacation at Disneyland in California with his family--Nana Mama, daughter Jannie, teenaged son Damon, and three-year-old Alex Jr.--Alex wants nothing more than spend some quality time with those he loves. Yes, the fact that James Truscott, an investigative journalist who has been hounding Alex for months, shows up on their vacation is an annoyance, but nothing that can't be handled. He even gets to meet his current love interest, Jamilla Hughes, an officer with the San Francisco PD, for a little one-on-one R & R. But then his vacation is brought short, yet again, by a phone call from his boss, summoning him to a crime scene at the home of a famous actress right there in L.A.

Detective Cross is inevitably drawn deeper and deeper into a case that he was only supposed to have to give his initial impressions on. Someone is killing famous and wealthy mothers in the entertainment business--someone who claims to call herself Mary Smith, and who sends an email after each death detailing the crime to L.A. Times entertainment writer Arnold Griner.

As Alex gives chase to "Mary Smith", interviewing the victim's families and trying to find any clue as to the killer's identity, his personal life takes a downward spiral--his ex, Christine, little Alex's mother, is suing for full-custody, and Jamilla informs him that she's found someone new. As Alex tries to put his family first once again, he realizes that the job always seems to get in the way--and this case is no different.

In typical fast-paced James Patterson style, MARY, MARY is an engrossing thriller that will have you turning pages quickly to find out what happens next.

FBI agent Alex Cross is called in to help solve the defacing murders of Hollywood A-listers by someone who sends e-mails signed Mary Smith. Is Mary Smith really a woman, are these murders commited by one person, an obsessed fan? Shocking twists make this James Patterson's most sophisticated thriller yet.

"You've got mail" isn't a good think for this newspaperman. It means another hollywood person has been murdered. The emails are signed Mary, Mary but Alex Cross, one of the best FBI men in the country, isn't sure it is a woman doing the killing despite the signature on the emails. Very good read, one of Patterson's best in a while. I couldn't figure out the killer but Alex does as usual.
