A bit slow moving in the beginning, so if you're not into that, it's not for you.
A youtuber and his crew go into the grand canyon to find a mystery cave of mysteries. They find it. Things get weird.
I'm not a fan of horror where the entire horror is gore, so this was pretty good on that front. It got a little gross in one part, but it was bearable, and then the rest of it was definitely a little unnerving. It'd probably hit harder if you're scared of caves.
If you like Dan Brown, you'll definitely like this. If you don't like Dan Brown (I don't), it's still a fun read. It was a little hard to put down, I kept thinking "just one more chapter". It'd be a good beach read, or a little in between taster between books you really want to read.

Pretty decent little 90s scifi. It's written in a VERY 90s style, with all of the weird characterization of women that that comes with. It's a unique setup, and the writing style is pretty easy to breeze through.
I'm not sure how I feel about the destination that we ended up in, but I enjoyed the journey.

The second saddest sack of a detective dies. He spends the whole book whining about what an awful guy he was and how he screwed up his life. He meets the new detective, a career driven, almost supernaturally gifted woman, and decides that he's her partner now. He leers around her the entire book, deciding that they're working the case together despite the fact that during the entire book he manages to influence what is happening in the living world all of twice.
It gets points for being an interesting concept, but then loses all of those points because all of the men in this book were insufferable.

The first half of the book was great. It's set in a neat universe where magic expanded our reality. Alex is an interesting character that I liked learning more about, and her powers are fairly unique. The mystery was a fun journey for the first part of the book.
Eventually, we get to the big sex scene and then after that it feels a little like we just kind of needed to get to an ending so we just zoom along to get there. It felt a little rushed, and some things definitely needed a bit more explanation than we got.
Still, I'm looking forward to reading the second. I know this is a urban fantasy romance, and I'm definitely more into the urban fantasy than the romance, but I'm willing to give book 2 a shot!

If you think of this as a mystery book, this is a terrible book. There is a mystery element, but it's not solved in a way that a mystery book should be solved.
However, if you think of this as just a sci-fi/political book with a murder in it, it's pretty decent. It gives The Martian vibes, and the moon science and atmosphere is pretty interesting. I'm not usually into political books, but this seemed fairly realistic. The main character is interesting enough (though the focus on the one woman character as The Woman is a little obnoxious).

So I originally got this because I thought it was one of the many scifi books with the "The Number Nouns of Full Name" title scheme. It is very much not scifi or fantasy, so totally outside of my usual genres.
That being said, it was a good read. Very heart wrenching imo, with an interesting look at old hollywood. I didn't see the surprise at the end coming, but I think it also was a bit of an unneeded surprise.
