Quite A few years ago my husband Dave came home from a business trip with a surprise for me, which is quite unusual. It was chocolate candy. There were four small pieces of two white and two milk chocolates. They were an odd shape. I looked at them suspiciously and he admitted they were chocolate covered crickets. Lucky for him I didn't eat them. I do all the cooking at our house and can be very creative with my revenge.
I put them on top of the bookcase in our bedroom and forgot about them until a few months later when I was dusting and found them. Ha, I thought, this would be funny to put in one of my naughty boys Christmas stockings. I was the mother of three naughty boys and one sweet daughter. All the boys deserved it. I would just see who deserved it most come Christmas. My daughter Kilah was a princess who rarely got into trouble. I wouldn't even consider such a mean trick on her. Her three brothers ganged up on her all the time as it was.
I had forgotten about the candy until one day Kilah came into the kitchen as I was cooking dinner.
"Mom, do people eat bugs?" she asked me.
"Sure in Africa and other forgin countries. They even make chocolate covered ants somewhere."
Just then Dave came into the kitchen."Hey Dave" I asked, " Remember the chocolate covered crickets you brought home a few months ago? Have you seen them latley?"
"The're around" he answered.
All of the sudden Kilah started bawling. That's when I remembered the candy on the bookcase.
"Kilah" I asked, "Did you find some candy in my room?"
"Yes" she sobbed.
"Were there two white chocolates and two milk chocolates?"
I asked.
"Yes" she continued sobbing.
Just then the boys came into the kitchen to see what all the commotion was about.
"Did you eat that candy? I asked.
"Yes, I took a bite and I thought I saw a body. Then I came to ask you."
I looked at Dave and we were both trying to hide our laughter but it was too late. Remembering our chameleon who only eats live crickets purchased at the pet store the boys started chanting, "Kilah's a chameleon." We were all laughing by then except for Kilah who was still sobbing.
After everyone calmed down I asked Kilah, "If you ever find candy in my room again are you going to eat it?"
"Yes" she answered, "I'll just check it first."

Wonderful story! Gave me a good laugh. So true about kids and how they learn lessons the hard way.

I can see it perfectly, Ione. Your daughter's last line is priceless.
