I LOVED this book. It was fascinating, engrossing, and uplifting because the author made me care about the characters. Even though I cried several times I was happy with the ending. This book is unforgettable!!!

This was an excellent book that kept me hooked from the beginning. It certainly kept my attention throughout and I had a hard time putting it down. There's a great deal of heart and spirit in the book.

The characters are brilliant, engaging and beautifully written. All in all, their development and the plot were excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed the sharing of what was going through the child's mind, even more would have been great. It was a very touching novel and, for me, hit a variety of different emotions. I will read more from Kristin Hannah.

Dr Julia Cates, a child psychiatrist, is shattered by the loss of a teenage patient and the scandal the follows. Doubting herself, she retreats to her quiet and slow-paced hometown in Northwest Washington to find her self. Nothing happens in Rain Valley, until one day a young girl suddenly appears from the deep woods and is found hiding in a tree with a baby wolf in her arms.

She soon becomes known as a "wild child," because she is fearful and is unable to speak. There is a psychological edge to Magic Hour that engages the reader in the wonder of how this fragile child will heal. And, as always, there is an unexpected twist. Once I picked up the novel, I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. An outstanding read.

I have loved everything I have ever read by Kristin Hannah but this one was, by far, my favorite one yet! A wonderful story about a little girl who wanders out of the woods and the child psychiatrist who helps bring her out of her shell. LOVED this one and hated for it to end!

A mysterious child who cannot or will not speak has turned up in the center of town, high in a tree and clutching a wolf cub to her chest. She is a very rare case, a feral child, raised in the wild by wolves and no one knows what to do or how to find her family. Julie Cates is a child psychiatrist works to bring her into a civilized world.
The author pulls you into Alice and Julie's struggles from the beginning and it is one of the most heart wrenching and powerful books that I have read. You become emotional tied to the character and feel their triumphs as well as thier failures and setbacks.

I could not put this book down once I started it. It's a story of a little girl who is essentially feral, her search for help when she realizes she needs it, and the woman who helps her learn to fit into society. The patience and love exhibited in this story are heartwarming and the strength of both the little girl and her therapist is inspiring.

Wonderful story - and a child you can't help but fall in love with. The basics are that from the heart of the nearly impenetrable darkness of the Oregon National Forest, a 6 year old girl appears, mute and alone. This is the story of the woman and the town that saves her.

I have to start out by saying I didn't care for the narrator's voice. I almost stopped listening but I knew the book reviews thought the story was worth telling. So, I continued on and I am glad I did. (I just didn't like how the narrator portrayed a couple of the voices).
This is a "feel good" story that kept my attention. I didn't want to stop listening, I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Another great book from Kristin Hannah. I must admit I felt a little lost at the very beginning; couldn't quite get my head around what I was reading. Once I got into it though I've really enjoyed it. It keeps you turning the page wondering what will happen next. It has suspense, is heart warming, and tear jerking; runs the gamut (sp ?) of emotions. I would definitely recommend it.

This is my first book by Kristin Hannah, and I have to say I now understand why so many people love her books! A little girl, who they eventually call Alice, shows up in the middle of town. She came from the wilderness and cannot speak or communicate. Julia Cates, a psychiatrist, gets called in by her sister Ellie, who is the police chief in town to work with the little girl until her parents are found. It's not easy, but Julia and Alice have a special bond, and they start to make progress getting Alice used to life in the real world.

I felt this book was well researched and had a great storyline. It combined a little bit of mystery along with a love story and it hooks you from the very beginning! I would recommend it to anyone who likes Jodi Picoult or Diane Chamberlain!

I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars!

I have enjoyed all of Kristin Hannah's books, but this one is probably my favorite. It was a special journey to see how Julia was able to bond with the girl "Alice" and gain her trust and help her emerge from her protective cocoon. You wondered through the whole story how this child came to such a fate, and the story closed all those doors and answered those questions well. My heart was warmed by the end, and I could visualize the characters in all the scenarios throughout the story. Very touching book. I really enjoyed it.

I must be in the minority after reading a handful of positive reviews about this book. I was pulled into it in the first few pages, but as I got into the second chapter something caused me to lose interest really quick. I couldn't seem to get pulled into the story line. This is the second Kristin Hannah book I have attempted to read that I lost interest in rather quick.

Deep in the Pacific Northwest lies the Olympic National Forest -- nearly one million acres of impenetrable darkness and impossible beauty. Even in this modern age, much of it remains undiscovered and uncharted. From the heart of this old forest, a six-year-old girl appears. Speechless and alone, she can give no clue as to her identity, no hint of her past....

Until recently, Dr. Julia Cates was one of the preeminent child psychiatrists in the country, but a scandal shattered her confidence, ruined her career, and made her a media target. When she gets a desperate call from her estranged sister, Ellie, a police chief in their small western Washington hometown, she jumps at the chance to escape.

In Rain Valley, nothing much ever happens -- until a girl emerges from the deep woods and walks into town. She is a victim unlike any Julia has ever seen: a child locked in a world of unimaginable fear and isolation.

When word spreads of the "wild child" and the infamous doctor who is treating her, the media descend on Julia and once again her competence is challenged. State and federal authorities want to lock the girl away in an institution until an identification can be made.

But to Julia, who has come to doubt her own ability, nothing is more important than saving the girl she now calls Alice. To heal this child, Julia will have to understand that she cannot work alone and must look to others -- the people in the town she left long ago, the sister she barely knows, and Dr. Max Cerrasin, a handsome, private man with secrets of his own.

Then a shocking revelation forces Julia to risk everything to discover the truth about Alice. The ordeal that follows will test the limits of Julia's faith, forgiveness, and love, as she struggles to ascertain where Alice ultimately belongs.

In her most ambitious novel to date, Kristin Hannah delivers an incandescent story about the resilience of the human spirit, the triumph of hope, and the mysterious places in the heart where love lies waiting.

This story of a child psychiatrist and how she treats the "wild" child who was found in the park grips you right from the start. Get out the kleenexes when you read this story; there will be tears of happiness as well as compassion for what this child has been through. There are no bad guys here; only people who love the child and want what is best for her, because she is too damaged to know that for herself. I couldn't put this down from beginning to end.
