Kathryn Lasky grew up in Indianapolis, and is married to Christopher Knight, with whom she lives in Boston. She is also a non-fiction writer of other books.

Book 15, The War of the Ember, is the last book in the Ga'Hoole series. In 2010, Lasky released a new book, The Lone Wolf, part of the series "Wolves of the Beyond" that takes place near the owls of Ga'Hoole.
