My first book by Linda Howard. I got involved in the book immediately and found myself zipping through it. The book focused on the developing relationship more than the mystery.

I liked this book. I've read most of Ms. Howards books and this one was great like all her others were. Her books are easy reads because of her smooth writing style which is a godsend for those of us who read quite a lot.

Loyal, beautiful...potentially lethal. Sarah Stevens is a butler par excellence. This is a good read, not too gory.

This was a good read. Even though you know from the beginning after
a few chapters who the culprit is, the exciting part was the romantic
escapades where the detective believes the girl did it and then he
didn't and then he did again. Want to guess how it ends...nope;
can't tell you...that would spoil the fun...this was a good storyline
because both myself and my wife enjoy linda's writing style.

Linda Howard writes good books, However this book tells you toward the beginning who the bad guy is. I like a little more mystery in my books and I would like to keep guessing until the very end. However besides this it seemed like a good book. I didn't read all of it but I did thumb thru it.

A really great premise for a book and very well done. Its easy to figure out who the killer is, but that does not lessen the enjoyment of reading it.

Sarah Stevens is a butler for a retired judge. She runs his household, pays his bills, and make sure everything runs smoothly. She is also a bodyguard for the judge since he has received numerous death threats. One night when thieves break into the judge's home, she thwarts the burglary and ends up being front page news. This also catches the attention of a man who wants Sarah for himself.

A few days later her employer has been murdered and Sarah is devastated. Detective Tom Cahill investigates the murder and totally falls for Sarah. But when her next employer is found murdered also, Sarah becomes suspect number one.

Even though you know who the villain is from the start, this was great romantic suspense. Linda Howard is one of my go-to authors. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Murder and hot desire like you would not believe. Linda Howard's heroes are direct descendants from primitive, savage, he-man hunter warriors, used to making the kill, flexing their muscles, and doing the whole you-woman, me-man, protect and defend thing. They mosey on in and stake their claim. Tom Cahill, policeman with an edge, is one of those guys. However, Sarah, the heroine, isn't a passive, stay-at-home and nest type of person. Oh, she does do those things, but that's her job. She's a butler plus a trained bodyguard. She kicks butt in admirable style. When her employer gets murdered by a sicko determined to have Sarah at his own beck and call, Cahill gets involved in the case. This is raw, steamy, boiling sexual tension that doesn't let up! Yes, there is a plot - a rather riveting one, as Sarah becomes the obsession of one very sick person who is methodically killing off the people she works for - leaving her as the main suspect! Back to Cahill and Sarah, they are an inspiring couple, as they take up the fine art of strip wrestling (forget poker!) Excuse us, while we dash out and buy a wrestling mat...Taut suspense and the kind of story we have come to expect from Linda Howard mean you will read this over and over!

Formula sex and mystery book. Guessed who-done-it before it was half over. There were also some bits and pieces that were just wrong. I won't be reading any more of Howard's books.

The very first Howard book I read was All the Queen's Men. I absolutely LOVED it. It had awesome action/romance/dialogue from page one and delivered till the last page. I've read thousands of books, without exaggeration, and it was up there with some of my faves in this genre.
So, I was excited to receive this one in the mail. The plot sounded very intriguing and I couldn't wait to see what she did with it. It wasn't bad, I gave it 3 stars, but I was disappointed because I felt it could have been so much better. I thought she could have made the butler/body guard way more bad "a". I was left unsatisfied. But, it did read quickly, if not a bit predictably.

This is a really good book that is a romance with a mystery in it. This book is a page turner. The killer isn't identified until the end. But the romance is hot.

Loyal. Beautiful. Professional. Impeccably organized. Potentially lethal. Sarah Stevens is a woman with many distinct qualities. First and foremost a butler par excellence, skilled at running large households smoothly and efficiently, she is also a trained bodyguard and expert marksmanindispensable to her elderly employer, a courtly gentleman whom Sarah has come to respect and love as a father.

Then one night she thwarts a burglary in progress, a courageous act that rewards Sarah her requisite fifteen minutes of fame with the local press. But the exposure is enough to catch the attention of a tortured soul who, unbeknownst to Sarah, will stop at nothing to have her for himself.

Sarahs perfectly ordered life is shattered when tragedy strikes: her beloved employer is brutally murdered. The detective investigating the case, assures Sarah that she is not a suspect. Until lightning strikes twice. Theres a second killingand this time, despite a lack of evidence connecting her to the crime, Sarah cannot escape the shadow of guilt.

The only option left for Sarah is to carry on with her life. But she doesnt realize that a deranged stalker is luring her into an elaborate trap . . . one in which she, once ensnared, might never escape. For Sarah soon finds herself at the mercy of a man who will tend to her every whim, smother her with affection, and crush her in his all-consuming embrace.

In a nonstop roller-coaster ride of unrelenting suspense, Linda Howard has written her most chilling novel yet. Dying to Please is a breathless thriller of desire and obsession.
