EXCELLENT!!! I read this book in about 4 hours. I could not put it down. It is nonstop suspense and of course murder. I can't wait for the next Alex Cross book.

"Double Cross" is vintage Patterson. Definitely a thriller with a lot of twists and turns like most of his Alex Cross books. It also advances a plot line that Patterson has been reeling out over his last several Cross novels, which has the potential to sustain the Cross for as long as he is willing to write them. You cannot read "Double Cross" without feeling as if there are even bigger things yet to come from Cross and his creator.

Not as impressive as the first Alex Cross books like KISS THE GIRLS and ALONG CAME A SPIDER, but definitely better than CROSS, the last book.

Most of the characters are back to normal, acting more like themselves, and this book has a better mystery. In fact, it's a two-fold arc, with the devious and psychopathic Kyle Craig causing havoc from prison, and a new serial killer keeping Detective Brianna Stone, Cross's new love interest, busy with murders committed in the limelight.

It's a quick, okay read, but definitely not my favorite.

Excellent continuation on Alex Cross. Just when you think you got'em - WRONG! One detail a little farfetched (mask), but I guess anything is possible. Little hints about certain characters make you fear for them, but then he leads you right back to the situation at hand. Had to read it fast as daughter wanted to read it next! Looking forward to the next one!

Another good Alex Cross book. This book is not as good as the earlier Cross books, but it is much better than some of his recent co authored books. There are the usual murders, and twists and turns with lots of non stop action that you would expect from Patterson, as well as some surprises. A good book for a weekend read.

Great book if you are looking for a simple fast read. I always picture Morgan Freeman for James patterson charactor, Alex Cross. It just fits so well. Quick book that made me want to read the rest of the series!

In this Alex Cross tale Washington DC is terrorized by a killer who stages elaborate murders in front of other people. When a second murder occurs there are fears of a copy cat. Alex finds himself drawn back into the police department to help solve the crimes. Adding to the mystery Alex's old nemesis Kyle Craig finds a way to escape from the maximum security prison where he has been incarcerated. Is he part of the crime spree? The blatant murders continue as the frustrated Alex seeks to find a common denominator and stop the killer or jillers before the violence hits his own family. A really good fast moving story with yet another surprise ending.

I started reading this book on Friday, December 28 late in the afternoon. Here it is Sunday evening...errr early Monday morning and I am nearly halfway done with this book. Keep in mind I have three kids and a husband so my time to read is limited to fifteen minutes here and there as well as the occasional bubble bath. My husband was nice enough to buy me a book light for Christmas and it has come in handy when I get in bed. Though it's probably a bad thing when you say one more chapter and ten chapters later you are still reading!

It is by far one of the best James Patterson books I have read. You think you know what is coming and then bam you were way off base. Completely and totally worth the read.

***EDIT*** Just finished this book and all I can say is WOW!****

Another good one by James Patterson! In this one, Alex Cross rejoins the D.C. police force to help solve a series of murders done by two diabolical killers. One becomes known as the "Audience Killer" and the other? None other than Kyle Craig, murderer and prison escapee, not to mention - a former co-worker of Alex Cross.

Suspenseful, intense, and thrilling!! I don't know how Patterson invents his demented characters, because the "bad guys" in this book mastermind situations that most people could never dream/nightmare of. This book deserved the title of "#1 NYT Bestseller" that it received.

I guess I am on a James Patterson kick. This latest installment of Alex Cross has a killer who likes an audience. This is another fast reading story that concluded with not all the questions answered. so now I am on the hunt for Cross Country. I did enjoy reading this.

Alex Cross rejoins the police force to work on the case of the D.C. Audience Killer, a madman who stages his killings in public settings. As Alex and company put together the clues left behind at the murders, his nemesis, Kyle Craig, has escaped from a maximum security prison.

I wasn't too crazy about this book. The killers are way too over-the-top. They can break out of maximum security prisons and outrun the police in public settings over and over again. And, as usual, Alex has another girlfriend who he is totally in love with. That gets old after a while. The mystery itself it an easy read and engrossing. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

This may be the last book that Patterson wrote by himself. It has all the great writing that was evidenced in his earlier books. Dr. Cross is being stalked by two killers. One his old nemesis, his former F.B.I., Kyle Craig. The other is a brilliant killer who leaves clues at every crime scene, only which clues are the right ones. He also needs an audience. The killings occur before more and more people. All the characters from the earlier works are in this book, Sampson, Bree, Nana Mama and his children. Patterson seems to instinctively know when you need a break from murder to the sanity of his family or Bree. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

I felt that parts of this one were a little slow, maybe because Cross's drama with his women is just getting old. I'd have to say one of Cross's most annoying traits is that the man is so co-dependent. I don't think I can recall him going two books without finding someone who he falls in love with. It's also kind of ironic that he's a psychologist and doesn't happen to mention it about himself but his adversaries sure seem to notice. Another thing is, is that he's an awful shrink if he can't profile his patients very well. That the killer and his co-conspirator are BOTH ballsy enough to be his patients and Cross not catching their odd comments and behavior is enough to make the reader groan out loud. (Yes, I know for some, it would be suspense, but did Cross forget killers like Soneji playing dress-up?) You'd think he'd be a little more jaded after dealing with all the bad guys and not take everything at face value.

On an "I wonder?" note, I had to ponder if the female author killed early on was a teensy representation of Patricia Cornwell (being a blond, mystery writer and all with lots of books under her belt, she kind of fit the description). I found some humor in it (twisted of me, I know) because Cornwell's books drove me crazy with their idiots-are-easily-amused plots.

It was nice to see Nana wasn't so irritating in this one and kept her complaining of Alex's job to a minimum. Nothing like having members of the family being non-supportive of you job to add to your stress levels.

Overall, it was the typical fast read because there is a lot going on, the chapters are short, and the print not tiny. Definitely good enough for a PaperBackSwap credit!

I guess my big advantage with this book is that I have listened to all the audio books and never really picked up a book from the Alex Cross series. So while reading I always had the narrators gorgeous, character giving voice in my head while reading. I always thought it is this voice that gave Alex Cross the live in the audio books and and now that I read my first Hardback in this series I know I've always been right.
For me personally James Patterson's writing style isn't the best one, dull and repetitive at times. The characters aren't growing at all so I'll most certainly will stick to listening to the audio books instead of buying a real book.

However, the story itself is quite nice at the last third which I finished in one day while the first two thirds bored me big time.

For me it was an experiment that failed. :-)

Alex Cross rejoins the DC Police force to confront two of the most diabolic killers he's ever encountered. Just when his life is calming down, Alex is drawn back into a lethal game like no other. In DC a maniac stages his killings as spectacles in public settings. Alex is pursuing a genius of terror who has the whole city on edge. And the killer loves the attention - he even sets up his own Web site and live video feed to trumpet his madness. In Colorado, another brilliant madman is planning a triumphant return. From his supermaximum security prison cell, Kyle craig has plotted for years an impossible escape. If he has to join forces with DC's Audience Killer to get back at the man who put in that prison - Alex Cross - all the better.
