I'm not into paranormal and magic, but I loved Mary Jo Putney's previous books so I had to try the Guardian series - which is also about magic - and then this book. I really liked the heroine in this story; she's so strong, well-grounded, generous. I suppose that I'll have to read any subsequent books if she makes this into a series.
