Four military men learn that a gigantic meteor is going to devastate the Midwest. and decide to take an old military facility and a selected number of young women and their children (no other men), to locked inside for a matter of two years after the disaster, so they can continue humanity. They stock food, books, toys, and weapons and gather the women and children, to settle down for the long haul. The meteor does hit and creates havoc across the USA and the world... It seems to be going along pretty well, until circumstances forces them to leave the protection of their facility and head across the western states. which are filled with staving people show will eat anything, including, you guessed it, them.
The book was well written story, which seemed very logical. I would read it again.
