2.5 stars: After an enjoyable start to the series with "evermore, I dived in to the second book Blue Moon with fervor. I read non-stop until the end, not because it was that good, but because I knew if I put it down, I would not pick it up again.
Blue Moon started out strong, with Damens and Evers relationship growing organically as expected, and Ever starting to become more confident in who she is. We are introduced to a new character, Roman, who is not at all who he seems. From there the book falls flat. The bulk of the book was SO uncomfortable. I really need Ever to grow a backbone. I mean, really, I still have NO idea why Damen has attached himself so eternally to her, which by this point, I should get. She acts like the sixteen year-old she is, which does not suspend the disbelief that a much older, refined, intelligent gorgeous guy would be attracted so irreparably to her. We get a little taste of the first time they fall in love, but the attraction is all superficial: I still see no substance to the relationship.
The trips to Summerland were tediously drawn out. Ever spent most of the book trying to uncover what was going on with Damen, her school mates, and all her friends, and how Roman was involved in all of this. All the answers are just handed to her, however, in a series of scenes that just dragged and were uninteresting. I was not surprised by anything that happened, and the end: COME ON! It was a surprise, but not a welcome one. I dont even know if I care enough to pick up the third book, Summerland, as I expect it will be another series of tedious events only to over come the mistakes she made in Blue Moon.
Ever regresses so much in Blue Moon, becoming the self-doubting little chit she was in the first book. By this point in the series, I demand more growth in the lead characters. I dont know about her, but I am ready to move forward! I suppose I will keep reading the series to see if things improve, but I have no problem waiting until it comes through PBS or the library!
