Based on reviews and the fact that I loved "Tell it to the Marines," I ordered this series. What a mistake! Every book is choppy. All the elements are there: romance, adventure, archeology, revenge, betrayal, obsessions, drugs, social ills (several per book), and the list goes on and on and on. That is the problem. She has so many elements in these books that we are forced to jump from character to character, scene to scene, topic to topic. Next page, new topic, then back again. Yes, it furthers the plot but at the cost of the smoothness and readability. (Perhaps she should have reduced the number of elements in the books to be able to narrow the focus.)

Please don't think I can't handle multiple plot lines and characters. I do it all the time. And I've read this whole series, though often skimming. I persevered only because I already own them. If they had been library books, I wouldn't have bothered.
