Book Review of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How Many Thousands of Men and Women Have Recovered from Alcoholism

reviewed on + 50 more book reviews

The original foundation for all 12 Step programs. Chapters 2 and 3 describe what it feels like to be an alcoholic. Chapter 4 is the original statement of the 12 Steps. Chapter 5, We Agnostics, explains how AA is not a religion and does not depend upon or require a belief in God. Appendix 3 is the medical opinion about alcoholism: written in the 1930's it is still surprisingly accurate. Chapter 8 though, "For Wives," is about what Bill thought his wife should do; he wrote it, she didn't. It's pretty terrible.
