The original big blue book of AA, with the story of it's founding and the experiences of the original group as well as help for current people addicted to alcohol.
While not an alcoholic myself, I know that this book has been a great help to those who are and it's been a great help to me in dealing with loved ones with this problem.

Good way to track and keep sober. Every page is full of meaningful dialog. Stories are real and frightening.

The original foundation for all 12 Step programs. Chapters 2 and 3 describe what it feels like to be an alcoholic. Chapter 4 is the original statement of the 12 Steps. Chapter 5, We Agnostics, explains how AA is not a religion and does not depend upon or require a belief in God. Appendix 3 is the medical opinion about alcoholism: written in the 1930's it is still surprisingly accurate. Chapter 8 though, "For Wives," is about what Bill thought his wife should do; he wrote it, she didn't. It's pretty terrible.
