PaperBackSwap.com to Give Books to Elementary Schools All over the U.S.

ATLANTA, November 17, 2011 -- PRNewswire -- This thanksgiving season, the largest Book Club in America, PaperBackSwap.com, is once again donating over 25,000 books to deserving elementary schools across the United States. This gift includes brand new books which will be placed into the teachers' classroom libraries so that students will have direct access to them or given to the students so that they have books to call their own. The books will be delivered to the schools right after Thanksgiving this year.

LaFrance Elementary, in LaFrance, SC was one of the lucky schools that received books in last year's program. The children were amazed to learn that people they didn't even know were doing something so kind as to donate books to us. Your generosity made a huge impression on these young children. Thanks again for the impact you are making for our future! Sincerely, The students and staff of LaFrance Elementary, La France, S.C.

PaperBackSwap.com (PBS), is based in Atlanta, GA. It is a free online book club where members swap books just for the cost of postage. People join PBS by posting on the PaperBackSwap.com website good condition books from their bookshelf that they are willing to share. Two startup credits are given by PBS to start the member's swapping. Credits are earned by sending out books to other members. Any available paperback or hardcover book may be ordered for one credit, and audio books may be ordered for two credits. Complete information about the online book club is available at www.paperbackswap.com.

PBS began the School Book Donation Program in 2009 to provide books for students because of the company's belief in both the power of reading and the power of giving. The schools selected to participate in the Books for Schools Program are nominated by club members and based on needs of the students. PBS club members who wanted to support the program selected a school and donated their extra credits to purchase books for the students. For each credit donated by a member of PBS, PaperBackSwap and supporting organizations provided books for the school. For more information about the program or to nominate a school, go to www.paperbackswap.com/donations/schools.php.

PaperBackSwap.com Lets You Recycle Your Books;
Launches Sister Sites SwapaCD.com and SwapaDVD.com for CDs and DVDs

ATLANTA, June 11, 2008 -- PRNewswire -- PaperBackSwap.com, an innovative web site that allows the public to recycle used books, launched two sister sites, SwapaCD.com and SwapaDVD.com, due to demand from club members.

PaperBackSwap.com began in 2004 as a way for book readers to share their already-read books with each other via the Internet. Since then it has grown enormously with a library of over 2.2 million books, which includes paperbacks, hard covers and audio books. The club boasts members in all 50 states and U.S. territories/military APO/FPO addresses. To date over 2 million books have been swapped successfully through the U.S. mail with an average of over 35,000 book swaps each week.

The club has been featured on CNN and The Today Show along with other media across the USA. The success of PaperBackSwap.com led to the launch of www.SwapaCD.com and www.SwapaDVD.com. Richard Pickering, president and founder of the clubs, explains, "As people try to save more and more money during these difficult economic times, these new clubs allow people to swap with each other for free! No gotchas, no gimmicks, no SPAM, no kidding! These are real clubs for real people!" Please visit any of the sites and click on "How does it work" for a full demo.

The clubs are easy for members to use. A member simply logs onto the site and selects a Book/CD/DVD that they want. Then the system sends an email to the member that has the selected item. The sending member then simply prints two pieces of paper from their printer, wraps the item with those papers, attaches postage and drops it in the mail. It is so simple and convenient for members since they do not even have to go to the Post Office. Just drop it in the mail and the requesting member gets the Book/CD/DVD for free! Of course, members do have to pay for postage when they mail an item. But every time you mail one, another member returns the favor and mails you one that you have selected from the club. Postage to send a typical book is $2.23 Media Mail rate, and the mail transit time averages about a week.

Membership requires only a working email address, a valid USPS address, and Internet access. At PaperBackSwap.com, members post at least 10 books that they have read and are willing to send out to others. Posting the first 10 books earns each new member 2 free book credits (after posting 10 items on the CD and DVD site you get 1 credit to try out the club). One credit is all you need to request an item from another member. You can request a book from another member your first day of membership, free of charge!

Those are the basics, but the clubs offer many additional features. The most popular feature is the Wish List, which allows you to "queue" for any item that is currently unavailable to request. The Discussion Forums offer lively conversation about books and authors, and Live Chat is a way for members to meet "virtually" in real time. There are Local club Chapters where on-line friends can meet in real life. There are many more wonderful club features on the site that we hope you will enjoy!

PaperBackSwap.com Book Club Reaches One Million Books Demonstrating the Nation's Love for Reading!

ATLANTA, March 3, 2007 -- PRNewswire -- PaperBackSwap.com, the nation's largest book club, has passed a major milestone for book lovers everywhere, making over one million books available for free trading.

Co-founders Richard Pickering and Robert Swarthout developed the online book club to allow readers from across the United States to trade books for free. In less than 24 months, the PaperBackSwap.com online phenomenon has peaked the interest of thousands of book fans across the United States. The excitement has continued to grow as the club surpassed one million books available. See www.paperbackswap.com.

"We see our members trade about 35,000 books a week, says Co-Founder and avid reader Richard Pickering. With this explosion of interest in trading books, our members can select from any genre to satisfy their literary desires."

The club operates on a simple premise: a club member selects a book they want and the system sends an email to the member that has the book. That member then mails the book to the requester and a credit is exchanged for a future book.

To mail the book, the sender easily prints two pieces of paper from their printer and then wraps them around the book, attaches postage (usually $1.59) and pops it in the mail. No post office visit is required.

When the sending member wants to order a book, another member returns the favor and mails them a book free of charge. This credit-for-book trade system also applies to their sister music site, www.swapaCD.com.

Matthew and Mary Stinnette of Chesapeake, VA have been active members of PaperBackSwap.com for one year and were just recently declared the official winners of the club's 1,000,000 Books Contest by selecting the exact date and time that the one millionth book would be posted.

"My family lives and breathes on Paperbackswap.com!" says Matthew Stinnette. "There isn't any other site as awesome as this one, and we, especially my wife and teenage daughter, visit it nearly every day. I have had a household of happy readers since we joined the club, thanks a million to PaperBackSwap."

"The best part about our club is our members," says Swarthout. "What started as a trading system has turned into a social community of readers that share so much more than books. Our members transcend miles and become best friends through club communications, discussion forums and coffee-time chat rooms."

PaperBackSwap.com Explodes from 10,000 to 300,000 Titles in Nine Months . . . Virtual Library Becomes Mecca for Book Lovers Everywhere

DULUTH, Ga., January 24, 2006 -- PRNewswire -- Conceived by a consummate reader in an effort to utilize discarded books, PaperBackSwap.com has developed a web site where members from all over the United States can trade books for free.

After the launching of its "virtual library" last year, www.PaperBackSwap.com has members in all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico and Guam. Club members find a book they want and then swap it with other members by mail. Growth has been tremendous. In less than nine months, the number of books has rocketed from 10,000 to more than 300,000 titles according to Co-founder Richard Pickering.

"I used to buy books on eBay or Amazon," says Pickering, a dedicated reader while traveling during business. "But I was so frustrated with having to pay for the books and then all the extra handling charges in addition to the postage."

He founded the web site along with his co-partner, Robert Swarthout, and created an environment where members can trade books for free. The buzz over PaperBackSwap has been growing, and the club has become the talk of book lovers all over the United States according to Pickering.

Nikole Meisner from Fort Wayne, IN exemplifies member enthusiasm. I have truly become addicted to this site. I find myself checking in on my account numerous times through the day. I can't seem to stop myself... I also love being able to recycle books I have read in such a way that gives me a credit for a new book.

The club operates on a simple premise. When another member requests one of your books, you mail it to them. You pay the postage, but then another member returns the favor when you request a book and they mail it to you. The books are always free because all club members are willing to trade their books with other members.

"The goal of PaperBackSwap.com is to become the largest virtual library of paperback books in the world," says Swarthout.
