Help Center - What if I miss a request?

Search Terms:

If you miss a request and it cancels, you need to repost the book in order to swap it.

If you did not respond to a request and the requestor canceled, you don't need to do anything.

  • If the requestor cancels, that puts the book back onto your Bookshelf to wait for another request.

If you missed a request and the system canceled it, you will need to repost the book if you want to offer it for swapping again.

  • When a request times out and cancels, the book is automatically removed from your Bookshelf.
  • If the previous requestor did not have his or her request passed along, your copy will then be offered to him or her immediately, and he or she will have 48 hours to confirm that she or he still wants the book.
  • If the previous requestor's request was passed along, your book will need to wait for a new requestor.

A sender has 4 full days to respond to a book request.

  • If you do not respond to the request in time, the transaction will be canceled
  • If that happens, the book will be removed from your Bookshelf
    • If there is another copy available in the system, the request will be passed along to a new sender. You won't get an email telling you about the pass-along.
    • If there is no other copy of the book available at the time of cancellation, you will get credit back, the system will put the book on your Wish List, and you will get an email notifying you of the cancellation.

If you didn't receive the emails notifying you about the request:

  • That means your email provider failed to deliver the emails
  • Reception of auto-emails is really important to manage a PaperBackSwap account, so please do the following to fix the problem:
    • Look in your spam folder. If you find any PaperBackSwap emails there, mark ALL of them "NOT spam" or "Move to inbox".
    • Make sure you've got the PBS system email addresses (librarian@paperbackswap.com and noreply@paperbackswap.com) in your email account "Contacts list" or "Address Book" (whatever your "accepted senders list" is called by your specific email provider).
    • Create a no-spam filter for your account. Here's an example of how to do this in Gmail:

- Open Gmail.
- In the search box at the top, click the Down arrow .
- Type "paperbackswap.com" in the "From" line.
- At the bottom of the search window, click "Create filter".
- Check "Never send it to Spam".
- Click "Create filter".

  • Doing these things should get your email provider on track.

If you were away from home when the request came in:

  • You should read about the Bookshelf Vacation/Hold feature, in How the Vacation/Hold feature works.
  • The Vacation/Hold feature should be used to put your bookshelf on hold if you plan to be away from email for 4 days or longer.
