More science fiction than fantasy. Published in 1970. May or may not be your thing. I have enjoyed other fantasy short story anthologies better than this one. This one also contains a few poems.

You probably will love it or hate it.

If you've read a lot and like nods to historical figures and times, this may be for you. Guy from the late 1800s England goes off to find his twin brother who is lost in Africa. He travels to get there encountering some interesting individuals along the way and then goes through a portal to get stuck in the "dungeon" (have you ever played dungeons & dragons or another role playing game?) and encounters all sorts of people and creatures from the past, from his future, our future, and alien creatures, too.

If you like to imagine how a British military person from the late 1800s might deal with Japanese WWII pilots or a cyber lady from the late 1900s, enjoy reading a book that has nods to many other books and times along the way, this may be for you.

I might have liked this when I was reading choose your own adventure books in junior high, but that was a long time ago and ultimately, this book seemed shallow and convoluted and wasn't for me. YMMV.

Neat book I picked up somewhere along the way of my German studies probably 20 years or so ago. Has a lot of signs and allows a new student of the language to work to interpret their meanings. I'm beyond needing it in my German abilities now, but would recommend this book for new students to the German language or for a teacher who wants to expose their students to typical signs one might encounter on a visit to Germany.

If you're a beginning fashionista and want to know when to buy what, this may be the book for you.

I *don't* generally want to buy things when they first come out and pay top dollar to be extra fashionable, but my style is more classical than trying to follow or set the latest fad.

Some good general advice on selecting swimsuits, sunglasses and other clothing to match your style and/or body type, but more a superficial review at best. If you're looking for a light, quick read on fashion and clothing, go ahead, but for serious information on building a functional wardrobe or dressing for your colors or body type, there are better books out there.

This contains the first two books of the MYTH series by Robert Asprin. A young apprentice magician (Skeeve) doesn't take his studies too seriously until his master conjurs up a demon to impress him. Things go wrong from there, but end up getting better/more interesting for young Skeeve.

These two stories introduces Skeeve to the demon Aahz, increases his magical abilities and awareness of the greater universe around him, and starts the first of several adventures resulting in new experiences and meeting new companions and a dragon, too!

Only reason I'm getting rid of this copy is because my husband and I have the original two books and had to clear out some duplicates once we married and merged book collections :)

New Evolution Diet: What Our Paleolithic Ancestors Can Teach Us about Weight Loss, Fitness, and Aging
Review Date: 10/17/2011

Decent into to paleo/healthier eating with moderation written by an older guy who has been there/tried that with other things before he came up with this sustainable approach. Great beginner information manual similar to The Paleo Solution (highly recommended!) that I borrowed from my local library. Good reminder to have moderation in everything and to not be too regular with diet and exercise, as that breeds familiarity, too. Recommends lots of supplements that may or may not help you/be necessary, but if you want to further hedge your bets against aging poorly, can't hurt too much except your wallet. As with many other "diets" out there (and I've read up on the Zone Diet, Eat Right 4 Your Type, some Atkins, South Beach, Paleo and more), it comes down to getting away from processed foods, eating natural things you can pronounce (lean meat, lots of vegetables, some fruits, nuts and seeds) and getting some exercise, with weight/strength training being highly recommended....

Picked this up at a used bookstore out of 10 books for my mom. She said this was the best of the bunch so I read it and liked it enough to pick up the other books in the series for a read. Wikipedia lists "Whisper His Name", "Princess Charming" and "Almost a Princess" as 2 coming first and one after and possibly "Shady Lady" as related as well as another with ties to His Magesty's Secret Service characters.

Strong female heroine who rescues her man and stands by him when many do not. An interesting twist for one of the villains of the story that will be fun to pick up the earlier clues for when I reread the book sooner or later. :)

The Secret Society of Demolition Writers
Review Date: 11/9/2011

I like a lot of short story books... this one had a couple of really good stories and a lot of shake your head, wondering what was the point stories. Not sure if it would be any better if one knew who wrote what or not. I got my copy from a dollar store and I guess from the other review that gave it two stars out of five, one can see why...

Go ahead and request this book if you're a big fan of one of the included authors or just curious for an eccentric short story collection. I like "The Safe Man" story best.

I got this book in a bag of books to be posted to PBS from a friend. Happened to glance at the back cover and was intrigued enough to start reading. Naturally as soon as it was posted, it was on someone's wish list. Delayed accepting the request for a couple days until I could read the book. I think I've read stuff by Mary Balogh before and agree she is a good author. This book was a quick and fun read. Enjoyed the interplay and wonder if such things would really happen, but you never know. Was a fun temporary diversion and if you like regency romances, this one is worth reading.

There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love Stories
Review Date: 9/13/2013

Lots of sad stories... real life certainly can and most likely has happened that way, but not much in the way of happy endings here. I am not as familiar with Russian culture, so if one is or knows this author from other places, one might enjoy. A good reminder to be careful who you decide to become romantically involved with, to whatever degree.

Was going to send this book on to a friend who had spent some time in Russia, but she was looking for more uplifting reading material so I decided to send it back through PBS for another reader who might better appreciate.

I generally prefer more sci-fi/fantasy vampire sort of books, but a friend gave me this and a few other paranormal romances. I have also read book 6 of the series (Others) about one of Ava's friends and I think I might have enjoyed both stories better if I read the whole series to have a slightly greater attachment to the characters. It's a typical romance in that two people get thrown together and have instant and permanent attraction but fight it, and clear thinking and communication don't happen right away otherwise these books would be a lot shorter. They meet, he saves her life, she doesn't listen, she eventually realizes she's behaving like a spoiled brat, more stuff happens (hey - I don't want to spoil the book by giving away much more than what's on the back cover)... I was waiting for something different about her bloodline/background than what it turned out to be, but it was an ok read for a couple of hours of fluff. I'm very happy to pass it on to others and won't treasure it forever though, so enjoy.
