Absolutely loved it! Backman is so good at using story to relay messaging. This one reveals what a wonderfully rich world this could be if we worked at dropping the barriers & dismantling pretense....then took care of one another.

At times achingly beautiful & masterful storytelling. A sweeping family saga.

In addition this bestseller taught me so much about medicine & those who practice it passionately, especially immigrants who enter an often overwhelming & foreign Mecca to learn an artful craft.

I'll remember this story for a long time & recommend it heartily.

Well written story about relationships, personalities, and families growing and evolving through a relatively short period of time. I enjoyed the witty dialogue and the author's presentation of main character self discovery. Some surprising twists and a satisfying ending made for an enjoyable read.

Very well written; a delightful read. In fact, as I read I thought about the underlying relevancy of Ms. Kalish's stories concerning 'Hard Times.....During the Great Depression'. There are some Back to the Future elements & lessons here.

"Mesmerizing" according to the Chicago Sun-Times. I thoroughly agree. This book was relentless, a real icy cold page-turner, perhaps to reinforce the potential redemptive power of hope, love & forgiveness.

A mystical, imaginative, magical book! I enjoy reading a book that both entertains and teaches. This did both.
