This would be a good book to read with my daughter when she is in high school. It talks about a girl who's boyfriend broke up with her and she feels lost and broken. I would use it as a 'how NOT to' become a serial dater, how girls who think they have to be with a guy to be 'complete' and 'whole' are wrong. Only when you learn what makes YOU happy can you be whole.

I like this quote from the book: "And it's going to happen again, Viola. You don't love him. You'll split with him, and until you can make yourself happy, no amount of wishing is going to stop you from feeling invisible in the long run."

Overall, it was a quick enjoyable read, but I loved Jackson's other books 'Sisters Red' and 'Sweetly' more.

This book was disappointing. I actually had to stop reading halfway through the book, skip to the last chapter, and then be done. The author is very obvious is her disdain of prophets, frequently having characters scorn and ridicule Lehi and Nephi. Yes, I know that prophets are real men who have flaws, make mistakes, and are trying their best. My biggest issue with this book can be found on page 105, where Nephi "sounded as if he was repeating someone else's words without thinking about them." I think Nephi really did have faith, and would not parrot the Lord's words without really praying and thinking about them, and then coming to a belief in them before speaking them to others.

Enjoyed the theme that no matter your background, Christ can use you for His purposes. Great series

Reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984, I found this novel strikingly disturbing/absorbing/enthralling. This author's perception of how America could become without drastic change on our parts is motivating. You can bet I'll be voting in every election throughout the rest of my life. This earns a 5 all the way.

Spoiler Alert!!!

One of my favorite parts of the book:

âCome now,â he says, âI'm interested in your opinion. You're intelligent enough, you must have an opinion.â
âAbout what?â I say
âWhat we've done,â he says, âHow things have worked out.â
I hold myself very still. I try to empty my mind. âI have no opinionâ I say.
He sighs, he knows what I think all right.
âYou can't make an omelette without breaking eggs,â is what he says. âWe thought we could do better.â
âBetter?â I say, in a small voice. How can he think this is better?
âBetter never means better for everyoneâ he says, âIt always mean worse, for some.â

Really enjoyed this book. I liked how the author pulled characters from several of her books to gather together as she added new people to meet. I thought it was so interesting to see what has happened and who's changed from previous books.

I really like Jodi Picoult. This book made you think about why do you believe in God, and if having faith in something is the same as being religious. What if something you thought your whole life was fact, but then someone who you love and trust tells you differently, who do you believe?

I am so frustrated for wasting my time on this book. I kept hoping it would get better...but it only got worse. There isn't a resolution to the story, it just ended, horribly abruptly. This was the first book I've read from this author, and she is being moved to my Do Not Read Again list.

I think this is my favorite Deeanne Gist book, and I have read almost every book she has written!
I also enjoy reading the info at the end of each book about the historical aspects she researched and added into the story to make it historically accurate.

LOVED this book! It's a historical Christian novel about a family in San Francisco during the gold rush. Really interesting with historical facts interwoven throughout the book. It was a good book trying to show that forgiveness is for everyone, not just those you choose it for.

This was a good read. He is a bit long in the description area, so some paragraphs are a bit lengthly in detail. I liked this book, and the Seargent was a great character!

I gave this 4 stars because it was well written and the ideas were imaginatively (sp?) thought out. It was sad, I had to use tissues occasionaly.

It really affected me, which is probably what the writer intended. I had to really think about some of my reasons (or rationalizations) about why I do certain things, and if they are counter productive to my well-being. And if they are, are they harmful to those I love?

Sometimes it is fun to read a book just to read it, but sometimes it is good to read a book that helps you to change your life, or at the very least, makes you WANT to change your life.

I read another author's book and loved it and in an interview she said this was one of her favorite books. Well, I hated it. I didn't know how dark and depressing it would be. When I finished reading it I felt so weighed down and depressed. I snapped at my children and yelled at my husband and realized it was because I felt so irritated at the terrible choices the characters made and how awful they were to each other. I'm disgusted with what I read and I'm tempted to donate this book to my local library rather than wait for someone to request my copy.

This book was amazing! I didn't want to take a break! I had to take a screenshot of the dinner recipe and text it to my daughter because I didn't want to stop reading. (Don't worry, my daughter is totally confident in the kitchen, I trust her with the Instant Pot, she did a great job, and it was a delicious dinner!)
You know who else did a great job? The author! I woke up at 5am just so I could finish the book before making breakfast for the family. I loved the story line and the characters felt so real.
I will definitely be looking for more books by this author; she's made the cut to be listed with my top 10 favorite authors.

Read carefully, Anita Shreeve never goes where you think she's going. It made me think about love and why we marry the people we do.
