Attracting Romance: The Secrets to Successful Relationships
Review Date: 10/1/2006

When I was a Singleton and wondering if I'd ever meet Mr. Right, I found this and similar books to be quite inspiring. This book is spiritually based (NOT religious -- spiritual) and asks the reader to do some written exercises, affirmations, taking personal inventory, and other things to help achieve clarity in attracting the right mate. I found books like this one to be very helpful in helping me become aware of my strengths and weaknesses in the relationship department -- and helped me truly recognize the right person when he finally did come along.

This was very enjoyable - a fascinating and diverse collection of essays .

Chasing Phil: The Adventures of Two Undercover Agents with the World's Most Charming Con Man
Review Date: 10/9/2017

I won this book as part of a Goodreads Giveaway and truly enjoyed it! Author David Howard has thoroughly researched this engaging true story of two young FBI agents who found themselves drawn into an increasingly complex undercover operation as they infiltrated the white-collar fraud world of Phillip Kitzer, a whip-smart and personable con artist. The FBI was evolving from the J. Edgar Hoover agency, and was unprepared for complex undercover work. White-collar crime was also an unfamiliar arena, so the agents were flying by the seat of their pants.

Howard brings a sensitive and deft touch to the narration, providing just enough detail without getting overly bogged down, and shaping his characters with empathy and nuance.

This book gets a lot of good reviews so perhaps I am in the minority, as one who did not care for it. As a Jane Austen fan, I was looking forward to reading this, but the Austen book club was simply a device to set the stage for relationships and romance in the style of "Pride and Prejudice." I found it formulaic, characters dull and uninspiring -- in fact I did not finish the book. But again, I've heard that lots of readers have enjoyed this book and clearly it's gotten a lot of press - so maybe I'm just picky.

This appears to be a self-published spiral comb type cookbook. In addition to recipes, there are questions that help children learn about the various ingredients and nutrition in general.

This was a fairly quick read, and a lovely story. Set in Appalachia during the 1920's, this book is about the marriage of a Cherokee girl who marries a white man and leaves her family to live with his. I love the way her character is written, with strength and wisdom -- as she learns to fit into a different world, to deal with hardships and betrayals, and ultimately find a unique way to demonstrate forgiveness.

Sorry, Everybody: An Apology to the World for the Re-Election of George W. Bush
Review Date: 10/1/2006

If you are familiar with the website sorryeverybody.com, where folks all over the world posted pictures of themselves and their thoughts about the Presidential election 2004, this is a compilation of the best of them. It made me a smile at a time when I needed some consolation.
