Interesting and intense, with lots of twists along the way. As the story unfolded, it became more thought-provoking.

Well-developed characters, kept my interest without needing to get all that intense or dramatic.

I liked Ashen Winter as much as Ashfall, maybe better -- it is one of the best sequels I have ever read. I liked how Ashen Winter expanded on the thought-provoking ideas introduced in Ashfall. And the short chapters with the hooks at the end of the chapters made me want to read just-one-more-chapter....

It took me a while to get into this book -- maybe because it is so chaotic and confusing at first -- but then it just kept getting better and better ... to the point where I lost sleep wondering what was going to happen next!

I liked this book almost as much as "Stargirl", which is one of my favorites. I wish I had read more books like this when I was in high school.

It took me a while to warm up to the main character, Sticky, but eventually I realized that he was a good person inside and was capable of caring about other people. However, I thought that the sequence of flashback chapters detracted from the story.

A good story, maybe a little too complicated, but not predictable. And I appreciated the low-key sense of humor.

This book had a lot going for it, with an interesting story and characters I cared about. It turned out to be a lot more emotional than I expected.

I think that the two main characters, Blink and Caution, were guided by something deep inside them, so the reader just had to go along for the ride. Not knowing where the story was going made the second part of the book that much more intense.

It took a while to get into the story -- it is historical fantasy with an alternate version of history -- but once I got interested, I wanted to read the rest of the series. The tension just keeps building, with twist after twist.

An interesting, well-crafted story, but I thought it was too long. If you are interested in reading the Will Lee series, this book provides the background of Will Lee's family.

I could really feel the bond of friendship between the two main characters. It was very emotional and bittersweet, and I cried many times. It told an interesting story too, very well crafted.

I was expecting this book to be a difficult / disturbing one to read, but I actually enjoyed reading it after a while. I appreciate how the author kept the book short, since it is on a difficult topic. Another good book about cutting is "Willow" by Julia Hoban.

Entertaining, but meaningful too, with likeable characters. I think I liked this book as much as Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. More literate than most teen fiction I have read, as I had to look up a number of words in the dictionary.

A solid Cold War thriller, one of Stuart Wood's strongest books. While this book was written in the 1980s before the breakup of the Soviet Union, it is becoming relevant again with the current situation in the Ukraine. Even though this is part of the Will Lee series, the main character is Katherine Rule, but Will Lee does end up playing a major role.

I thought Divergent had some interesting ideas about conformity, the status quo, and being "different", but I did not like it as much as the Hunger Games. While Divergent had some intense, action-packed scenes, it was more introspective and not as fast-paced as the Hunger Games.

My favorite dystopian series is still the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld.

While I got pulled into the story, and I liked the historical setting, I thought it was longer than it needed to be, and after the climax it sort of fizzled out. I usually prefer audiobooks, but there were so many characters that I had trouble telling the difference between some of them by the narrator's voice.
