Another hit from Sandra Boynton! I can honestly say I enjoy reading her books, and my kids love them, too. This has a fun square dance cadence to it, with Boynton's usual quirky illustrations and characters. A fun way for younger kids to learn animals and their sounds.

I love this author! He skillfully weaves history and fiction together. Great characters, decent writing and sound Biblical principles. Wonderful story that keeps you turning pages! I also like the lack of sex and obscene language.

This book is beautifully illustrated, but very wordy. I thought it would be appropriate for my 4 year old but would be better for older kids. Not only because of the long text, but the book gives a lengthy history of settlers bringing disease that kills large numbers of Native Americans, something else I was not ready to cover with my 4 year old. Also, the book starts out describing the evolutionary processes that formed plymouth rock, a worldview I do not subscribed to.

A Gaggle of Geese and a Clutter of Cats (Dandilion Rhymes)
Review Date: 8/16/2014

Cute and very informative book. I had no idea there were so many oddly-named groups of animals! The illustrations are cute and go along with the name of the group. There are a couple that might be a little advanced/edgy for younger readers...such as a gang of elk (shows a street gang of elk being chased by police cars) and a murder of crows (shows a crime scene in a nest/tree). My kids are 5 and 7 and haven't questioned me about either one yet so maybe it just goes over their heads. Otherwise, a fun book for all of us!

My kids love all the Little Miss and Mr. books we've read. This one is cute and fun about a sweet character. I do think they have good lessons that are fun for kids to learn. They're not amazingly written, but tolerable. Good for ages 3 and up.

A fun way to help kids learn and remember manners. It's a bit long, and the illustrations are minimalistic. This is by design, I realize, but not my favorite feature. My kids enjoy it anyway. Good for ages 3 and up.

I had My Book About Me as a child, and recently my mom found it and sent it to me. My 3 and 5 year old daughters loved having it read to them, so I ordered one from Amazon for my older daughter and put it on my wish list for my younger daughter! My older daughter has loved filling in all the blanks. Wonderful keepsake.

LOVE this book! I am kind of a book snob and can't stand cheesy illustrations or poor writing. When my kids like a book, (as is true of many children) they want to read it multiple times, so I choose books that I will enjoy reading over and over again! My daughters and I alike adore the mystical storyline and gorgeous illustrations of this one. I don't mind at all that they consistently ask for it. We originally checked it out from the library, but I'm hoping to eventually add it to our home collection. In the meantime, I'm sending it to another mom who appreciates the finer things in books. It has some good lessons as well: the destructive power of acting on our fears, and the redeeming power of good choices and friendship.

Over the River and Through the Wood (Blue Ribbon Book)

I've always loved this song, and was so excited to see it in book form. Beautiful illustrations of bygone times. My 4- and 2-year old daughters love having it read to them.

Pippi Goes on Board (Pippi Longstocking, Bk 2)
Review Date: 9/15/2015

We love Pippi! This is a delightfully entertaining account of her crazy and original adventures, most of them with her next door neighbors Tommy and Annika. I read this aloud to my daughters, ages 6 and 8. Pippi's hilarious antics and ideas kept them laughing and they always wanted to read more when the chapter ended. Older kids will enjoy reading this book silently as well. Parents should know Pippi does lots of things that would probably be against their rules, but it opens up good talking points with your kiddoes about whether they would make those choices or not. Excellent book!

Francine Rivers is the best Christian fiction writer I've discovered. This book is an amazing and powerful metaphor of God's redemption available to us. I won't be reposting this one as I plan to re-read it in future!
