As a family court judge, Olivia Lockhart has dealt with numerous divorce suits but none as peculiar as Cecilia and Ian Randall's. Before the young couple was married the year before, Cecilia and Ian signed a prenuptial agreement stating their marriage would last a lifetime, but now, after the tragic death of their infant daughter, the two wish to rescind the agreement. Sensing that Cecilia and Ian are still in love, Olivia lets her heart guide her decision, and denies their petition. Olivia's decision makes headlines in The Cedar Cove Chronicle and earns her the admiration of the paper's editor, Jack Griffin, a newcomer to the small Washington town. While Jack courts Olivia, and Ian and Cecilia try to repair their marriage, Olivia's daughter is forced to decide whether she should marry a man whom she doesn't love; Olivia's best friend grows frantic over the disappearance of her husband; and Olivia's mother befriends a stroke patient who harbors a secret he would share if he could speak.

Barry, a practicing witch, has collaborated with well-known SF and horror writer Strieber in this very uneven novel. In a sense the book is a spokespiece for witchcraftand is most interesting as suchnot black magic witchcraft, but the ancient wisdom of worshipping the earth and the seasons, of living with and respecting nature and the holy in people and animals. The story focuses on young Amanda Walker, who has come to rural Maywell to work with Constance Collier on her latest book. But Constance is really a witch, the spiritual leader of a large coven, and unbeknownst to Amanda she has picked the girl to be her successor. To complicate matters, Amanda's eccentric uncle George, who is involved in research in resuscitating the dead, has finally gone over the edge and is looking for a healthy young woman as his next subject. And Brother Simon Pierce, local fundamentalist preacher, himself quite mad, is determined to enforce the Biblical injunction, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

A truly classic tale of werewolves and the dark night they roam. Unlike the Hollywood rubbish, these are the true werewolves of legend. Shapeshifters not bound by the ridiculous notion of the full moon but change at will, retaining their cunning human minds. In a small rustic town, a young couple learn the deadly secret that haunts the surrounding forests preying on those unfortunate enough to cross the werewolf's path. If you enjoyed the Howling, you will love Cry Wolf. A tale that will make you think twice about going out after dark.

Pacific Crest, California, 1968--A seemingly impossible accident with the Diving Bell ride at the pier amusement park sees three boys drowned. The only survivor is pulled from the ocean in a terror-fueled, near catatonic state....
Pacific Crest, California, the present--Parker Solomon swore never to return to the place where he lost his memory and his childhood. But now the Japanese investors for whom he works are interested in developing this long-ignored piece of California's coast, and Parker is the man they've put in charge of the project. With no other choice, he comes back to Pacific Crest, back to the town where he spent childhood summers with his aunt, back to the town where his best friend died, and he himself nearly perished in both body and mind.
And slowly, far too slowly, long locked-away memories start to return, and all his nightmares begin to come true

"Darkfall" follows two cops, Jack and Rebecca (who inevitably fall in love, as examplified in a rather startling and explicit sex scene near the end of the book) who are hot on the tail of a mysterious Hatian named Baba Lavelle, a black magician who uses disgusting hellish creatures to do his evil bidding. As Jack intrudes on Lavelle's opperations, his two children become the evil man's next target.

East of Eden was originally published in 1952, and the setting for the novel is the late 19th and early 20th century. I still enjoyed reading East of Eden though, because there are timeless themes presented in this book. Sibling rivalry, guilt, and betrayal are some of the main themes in this book. It was ironic and interesting to read how 2 sets of brothers from different generations compete for the approval and love of their father.

Nourse was an MD as well as a science-fiction writer. This book is well grounded in medical and historical fact.
A new, antibiotic-resistant form of the Black Death arises in North American and kills many around the world. Nourse, correctly, describes the direct deaths from disease as being only a small part of the harm done.

Gates of Paradise is a sequal to Heaven, Dark Angel and Fallen Hearts, so if you've enjoyed these 3 books you'll love this. The story is told by Heaven's 18 year old daughter 'Annie'. She is taken to Farthinggale Mannor by her mysterious great-grandfather Tony Tatterton. Annie pines for her lost family, especially Luke- her half-brother and secret love, but when she discoveres the cottage owened by Tony's brother Troy the mystery of Farthinggale deepens... I couldn't put Gates of Paradise down. The plot is so well thought out and there are many unexpected twists. I would recomend this book to girls aged 14 and over. It is a fantastic story!
