This book is so much more then I expected - it's very historic and academic & I'm very pleased with it ~ It does take a mental mindset to get into though: not a "easy read self-help" book!

Controlling People: How to Recognize, Understand, and Deal With People Who Try to Control You
Review Date: 11/27/2008
Helpful Score: 2

I was married to a controlling abusive person for 8 years before I filed divorce - I read this book soon after & it's helped me cope with and control the reins on my life, and keep my children's life sane and stable despite his attempts to be a control freak.

Odd conversations that sparked him to attack me, that had never made sense, are explained in this book. Amazing. I didn't feel alone anymore.

I recommend anyone in a friendship/work relationship or other relationship with a control person read this. Also I hope every counselor reads this. Eye opening content and easy to understand examples and options on how to hold ones own mental ground against seemingly unsparked fury or retalliation: It makes it all make sense (Finally!).

This is oriented to teens to 20's who are starting to date. It encourages no sex; religion, refernces God .. and although religion is not for me, it's done in a tasteful polite way that is okay for anyone.

The book really touches on "trueisms" and the facts of dating - not to lie, not to accept liars, to be true and unique to yourself, and to believe and know there is someone who is a good match and a good person out there for you - don't settle for someone.

It talks about the reality of past relationships, patterns of behavior, and that it is part of a person's character how they act: you can't change them, if you don't like them, or their actions, choose someone else.

Being 37 I appreciated the candor and honesty of this book. I'd keep it for my daughters if they were teenagers, but since they have 10 years til that I'll pass it along.

Also : the book pages are covered with fun doodles and little colored call-outs: really easy to read/not heavy reading at all.

Overall: a fun and worthwhile book!

If you are wondering about how you are being treated, or how a friend or family member is - and wonder "is this okay? is this good? is this fixable?" -- read this book. It's very good on both outlining what might be causing certain "jerk" behaviors - how bad they are from an uninvolved viewpoint - what you can & can't do - if you should consider leaving, or if you need help. I really found this to be a valuable book.

Don't Let Jerks Get The Best Of You Advice For Dealing With Difficult People

Hm - this book starts out & continues with extreme religious text, quotes from the bible, religious overtones & blaming of the parents for the choice of our marriage partner (claiming we marry the worst of our two parents personality and then try to "fix" our partner thereby fixing our relationship to our parents).

It goes on to say everyone is a "jerk" either a lvl 1, lvl 2 or lvl "N" (psychopath) - but even the author's stories of himself, being a "lvl 1" were way beyond what most people I know do.

He states everyone is born with Narcissism - Sigmund Freud believed that some narcissism is an essential part of all of us from birth and was the first to use the term in the reference to psychology

At core this book is based on Freud: we're all somewhat in love w/our parents & want to "fix" what went wrong via our relationships/marriage - that God is real and and that we "grow up" to reduce our selfishness but we are all have Narcissism... AND that we are all Masocistic : Just to what degree (?!).

I couldn't read it - to be honest to me it is a bunch of hogwash - so I'll post for a bit / if no one claims this book I'll donate it. :(

This book is a wonderful children's adventure! The cover is actually a full-color image with white writing on it though - so it's very colorful and modern. It makes a wonderful gift - I've given to some 9-12 year olds and they LOVED the book, and my neice immediately read it more then once!

Men Like Women Who Like Themselves : (And Other Secrets That the Smartest Women Know)
Review Date: 4/22/2009
Helpful Score: 2

This book is great!! It's full of short bits of commentary - quick to read, not at all dry or slow like a lot of psychology/sociology books - and also quite funny in some of the quotes - I really got a kick out of reading this - it boosts you up & says "Yeh!! You take care of yourself" and "Hey - don't put up with _that_!" and it's cute fun, and SMART.

I'd recommend this to anyone, especially if they are trying to boost their self-esteem, build healthier boundaries, learn to say no, learning to love themself as they are, or trying to figure out what is up with relationships and self-esteem. I gave it a 5 outta 5. I even copied some of the pages so I can keep them as reminders to myself. :)

Very sexually explicit writing - of the style of fanasy/porn.. not instructional. The book reads like a guy's list of wet dreams and it really goes over the top. I can't say the writing was "bad" just not at all what I wanted, and that right at the start sexual acts were described as "Examples of women who are sexually irresistable" doing things I didn't want to read about.

If you're looking for what I would call "hard core porn" in writing, then this might be your book. Otherwise I'd not recommend it - it doesn't teach any "secrets" or instructions or social tips - it's just, very explicit.

I thought there would be photos based on cover art - no, just drawings.
Very hippie
very touchy feely- how to let yourself orgasm : way below the quality I wanted in a book.

I got it - flipped through it & Immediately went to sell it to a bookstore/no offer - just donated it to charity. Just not for me.

Might be helpful to someone who has never had an orgasm and needs to figure out how to relax and do so - not really anything new or beyond common sense.

I was on the edge of my seat for the entire read. Not a soft fluffy happy-go-lucky romance. This is a vampire story - with some nice relationship and sex side-plots. The main story is vampire-centric.

this adorable illustrated kids books follows a child from waking up to a rooster, brushing teeth, walking - seeing bunnies, playing with blocks and a doll to eating, washing and going to bed. a lovely way to show little kids that daily routines are great: and what great way to get kids to do healthy things like brush their teeth and wash daily! Wonderful story - hardback with paper pages (not a boardbook). Artist/Author is known for his "miffy" bunny stories: this is not miffy but a similar style illustrations following a kid through a nice daily routine.

I really enjoyed this. Not too sappy - lots of mystery and plot, and a little bit of seduction and sex.

I actually gave my copy to this guy I like rather then relist it: heh. Nothing like vampires and sex to seduce someone!

...each page has a story or notion about sex and relationships - the book is tiny - could fit in a pocket, and the pages read like little bits of philosophy, while often funny or inspiring they also move the reader to open up a little more to life and relationships. I highly recommend - I have had my copy for over a decade and I like to open it up when I need a smile and hope, or inspiration.
