If you get this book, stop reading it after the anecdote about the boy jumping off the barn roof, which I think is in the first chapter. That is the best part of the book. Then go get some Gurian or even Raising Cain.

A Call to Spiritual Reformation: Priorities from Paul and His Prayers

Thoughts from two extremely intelligent men made surprisingly practical. Very good exegesis, very practical suggestions. Thanks, Dr. Carson!

The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America
Review Date: 9/4/2007

The chapters on the fair are fascinating and fun to read. The chapters about the devil are well-written but not valuable, and not tied in enough to enhance the other chapters. If you get it, just skip to the chapters about the White City. You'll be glad you did.

A little too self-pitying and self-aggrandizing. I'm supposed to feel sorry for someone who got to play college basketball because he didn't win enough games?

Informative, but not as gripping as Peter the Great. I suppose that the subject matter has everything to do with that.
