This was a great, funny story. I loved Delilah and all her misadventures, but what was going on with the editing?!? At times it was like reading something written by a 3rd grader! "Butt" where it should have been "But", "You're" when it should have been "Your", etc. She should fire her editor and find someone who knows basic grammar! It was distracting at times, but fortunately it didn't take away from a great story!

I agree with the above reviewer who said the book seemed to be "missing chapters" at the end. The story went along great, but then ended very abruptly. I enjoyed the story a lot, I just wished the ending had been more fleshed out.

Like all of the books by Maxted I have read, this book takes a while to get in to. Trust me when I say- stay with it! Like her other books, Being Committed is funny, thoughtful, clever and intellegent.

Quick, light, easy read. Some what entertaining, however I found the main character of Alison to be a bit neurotic for my taste and her friends (Bonnie & Nina) to be too judgemental. Also, not being raised as an evangelical Christian, it was hard for me to related to some of Alison's conflicts. I've read reviews where this book is compared to Sex & The City. I didn't see it.

I really wish Cara Lockwood would go back to writing FUNNY book like "Dixieland Sushi" & "Pink Slip Party" and all the others- all of which I rated w/ 4 or 5 stars. I suffered through "Every Demon Has Its Day" and barely finished it, I don't know why I thought this one would be better. I found this book boring, drawn out and having too many characters, none of which were interesting enough for me to attempt to try and keep up with all of it. I generally enjoy stories with a supernatural edge, but this one did nothing to hold my attention and I gave up.

It took me a little while to get into this book and there were a few times I thought I'd give up on it. I didn't think I was going to like Lola at first either.
I'm so glad I stuck with the book! I was completely wrong about Lola- she was funny, endearing and would clearly go to the ends of the earth for her friend.
The stories involving the over the top celebrity behavior were hilarious!
I hope to see more from these authors.

I knew from the first page this book was going to be a dud, but I read until about page 120 before I packed it in. I loved both the "Nanny" books as well as "Dedication" but this book was a definite miss. This book was boring, lacked direction and even got confusing at times (one second she's in a room and the next standing out on the street, wait...what?) I didn't care about "Girl" (it's hard to connect to someone with no name- I hope the authors stop this practice of the generic naming, it worked in Nanny Diaries, it failed miserably here!) Now I know why I waited so long to pick up this book, I should have listened to everyone who told me how awful it was!

I think I've finally had my fill of "Jaine Austen." The first few books were light, easy, fun reads but by #13 it's just the same rehashed plots, stupid asides with the cat and tedious emails from Jaine's parents. Gave up after about 3 chapters.

This book grabbed me from the first page. Great mystery- not so much a âwho-done-it,â but a why and how done it. Unfortunately it's ends too abruptly and the story doesn't get resolved in a satisfying way.

Not as laugh out loud funny as Lockwood's other books, but definitely a great mix of humor, mystery, super natural and spirituality. If you're a fan of demon hunters (ie: Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or ghost stories (the non-heavy, light hearted kind) this is a book you should check out!

Awful! Should have read all the terrible reviews before I started it. Too many interchangeable characters, confusing plot. I struggled to get through the first 100 pages or so and then gave up.

This book started out a little weak, dragged through the middle and ended just as weak. There were a few good parts here and there, but nothing that had me turning pages or laughing out loud. I found a lot of the plot to be just filler and one revelation at the end seemed to come out of nowhere.
Also, some of the editing could have been better. Barry Manilow did NOT sing the Pina Colada song!

Hamlet from the point of view of a modern American girl- that's the concept of this wonderful story- another winner from Theresa Alan!
Don't let the name or the cover art fool you, this is not a book about flakey girls who spend their times gossiping. This is a great story about a young woman dealing with serious issues of love, loss and family. It is funny, sad and sweet all at once. A great read- you'll be laughing and crying all at the same time!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were strong and interesting and I genuinely cared what happened to them. I could have lived without the endless descriptions about what everyone was cooking or eating. I suppose if you are someone who really enjoys cooking that you would find lengthy descriptions of risotto fascinating. I didn't. I have noticed this author doing this in some of her other books too, adding endless details (poetry in one book) that often becomes very tedious. I also found the ending to be some what abrupt. I wish she had given these great characters a more substantial ending. All & all a pretty enjoyable read.

I just couldn't get into this book. It moved very slow and took me quite a few weeks just to read a few chapters (usually I polish off a good chick lit in about 2 or 3 days) until I finally gave up.

This book is written as a collection of emails between Holly, her family members, co-workers & friends. It takes a little while to follow the style and I spent a lot of the first few sections going back to figure out who was saying what to whom. There were a few times in the beginning where I almost gave up on the whole thing. I'm glad I stuck with it because as the story went on I got used to the style and was able to enjoy it more. There isn't a whole lot of plot in this book, it's more like a glimpse into someone's daily life- funny & entertaining in some parts, boring & dragged out in others- much like real life! This book is also quite long compared to other books of this genre, but once you get into it, it flows really quickly. Great light, fluffy read.

I could *barely* get through this author's 1st book, I don't know why I thought the 2nd would be any better. Simply put- this "humor" book isn't funny. The essays were long and tedious and while some were better than others, mostly I kept waiting for the funny parts- but they never came. This book should be called "I'm Going to Tell You a Long, Boring Story That Has No Point- And Then I'm Going to do it Eight More Times".
There should be a star rating for "it was alright".
If you're looking for funny essays try Celia Rivenbark, Jancee Dunn, Chelsea Handler or any of Jen Lancaster's memoirs.

I really wanted to love this book. Being a child of the 80's and having my own obsession (along with MY best friend) with a certain 80's boy band I really thought this was going to be a great story that I could really relate to. I couldn't have been more wrong. The main character of Petra was miserable and everything about her story was depressing. I had a lot of hope with the first part of the book, although some of the parts were drawn out WAY too long, that this was a story I could get into, but once we got into the second half of the story it was a struggle just to get through a few pages at a time. Very disappointing.

Very quick, light read. Some cute anecdotes from Betty's life on TV as well as with her animals. Nothing scandalous (thank goodness- does anyone really want to hear Betty White dirt?!?) Enjoyable book that I was able to read in about 2 hours.
