Great end of the world book, based on the decline of species diversity. Insect species disappear, setting of a chain reaction which leads to economic collapse, world war, and the near-extinction of mankind. Very good reality-check scare!

What a great start to a series! Good development of a unique sci-fi universe. The story starts with several seemingly unrelated characters/scenarios but brings them together and the action leaves you wanting more, more, more.

Amazing! Pressfield brings the famous battle to life through the narrative of a Spartan squire who served one of the 300. The story is magnificent and he tells it in a superb manner. I could not put it down and highly recommend this to anyone who is a history or military buff.

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child: A Step-by-Step Program for a Good Night's Sleep

I agreed with much of what the author discussed. Critique of several sleep theories is included and the overall technique recommended makes complete sense.

More of a Victorian novel than fantasy. The story follows a young woman, Eliste, of the privileged class of her world, who travels to the capital city on the verge of a revolution. A French-style revolution takes place, with hints of the Holocaust and the Bolshevists, which turns Eliste's world upside-down. The fantasy manifests in the fact the upper class, or Exalted, possess hereditary magic powers. Or rather they used to, because their powers have all but disappeared.

I thought this was a pure sci-fi/fantasy read before I got it, but while it is based in a fantasy world it is very abstract. The focus is not on the fantasy aspects but on the reality of the world, or if it even is real. Kind of a heavy read.

Not a traditional fantasy - the heroine, Lanen, finds the object of her quest very quickly, then spends the rest of the book resolving issues. Lots of romance but enough fantasy to keep it from being what I would call chick-lit.

Great potential WWIII book. The US finds a rare mineral at the South Pole and the Soviets need it. War breaks out in Antartica. The story follows submarine crews, fighter pilots, scientists, and military units toward an explosive finish.

Amazing!!!! One of the best (if not THE best) Koontz book I've read so far. A carney can see some people are really "goblins" and feed on human misery. He is compelled to wage war to save humankind. Excellent, couldn't put it down.

A quick read about a biological terrorist plot. All the action takes place in one location with only a few characters - no major international intrigue. Worth reading but not a landmark thriller.
