entertaing read. not much to do with Christmas or Christmas traditions, so those looking for that aspect may be disappointed. lead characters are quite engaging-esp. the little boy. lead characters are more "gentry" than the "top o' the trees" aristocracy-which I personally enjoyed(ie: nary a duke in sight!).

Classic Regency. Metzger is at her best when she adds humor-which one sees in a large dose with this book. Relationship between h/h develops over a period of time. Just the right touch for the holidays. The children are esp. well written-and quite cute!

Early Louise Allen. Heroine is forced to marry a condemned man "Different" type of Regency setting. It's worth the effort to track this one down if you enjoy the marriage of convience(sp?) plot.

I've never written a review here on PBS. I just had to for "A Marriage of Equals". I've been reading and enjoying Elizabeth Rolls' books from the very first. She writes characters with depth and heart. This one is no different and is fact, a step above. The other reviews sum up the story better than I ever could, so I won't repeat. I will say, however, if you're looking for something other than Regency ballrooms and Hyde Park, do yourself a favor and read this one, I do not believe you will be disappointed.

Classic Kelly. By that I mean, in depth characterization, true to the period motivations, well-researched, terrific "feel" for the period. If you want a Regency that's that opposite(in the best sense) of many of the Regency-history- as- window -dressing historicals that are released today, then delve into "Marrying the Royal Marine".

Interesting historical "fancy"-as the author says. First Erickson I've read-look forward to more of her "fancies"-as opposed to historically "accurate" fiction(again, quoted from the author.

I actually wouldn't call Mary, the queen of the Scots, as portrayed here "stupid". Headstrong, stubborn and absolutely convinced of her God-given right to rule is more accurate. This conviction of the "divine right of Kings" eventually cost the Stuarts not only the throne of Scotland but of England as well.....

I liked the book. Well developed characters, snappy dialogue. Few authors write "guy" better than La Nora-and none, in my experience write "kid" better. That said, I couldn't help but feel I'd "been there; done that" with this book.

Trilogy with brothers? See Quinns
Paranormal aspects see Quinns; Ardmore; In the Garden....
Family business-see Quinns
Adorable kids-see In the Garden.....

Fun, easy read-and, yes, I'm looking forward to the next one, but it's not necessarily original stuff from this best selling author.

For those who like their historicals hot and dark...check out this book. Character interaction is snappy while being true to the period; hero's journey to happiness is a dark one-as is the heroine's but Nick's is more vivid. And it's a fun to catch up with characters introduced in a previous book-but their involvement in no way hampers the enjoyment for those who haven't read their story.

Characters are well developed; true to the period(a pet peeve of mine). Lively and funny as well as touching. Really good debut-very well researched. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

my very first venture into historical fiction. Quick pace; wonderful style; fabulous. Just another reason why this author will be missed in the world of fiction. Author is more well known as Edith Layton.

Rebellious Rake, Innocent Governess (Harlequin Historical, No 267)
Review Date: 10/6/2009

This is the 2nd I've read by this author. Long introspective passages are shorter which is a good thing-but they are still present. Did not realize when I started it that there are several reocurring characters from a previous book(which I have not read yet). Not sure I would have started with this book had I known. However I did enjoy this one-and look forward to more from her. Knowledge of regency mores, language and customs is spot on.

A Regency Christmas: Scarlet Ribbons / Christmas Promise / A Little Christmas (Harlequin Historical, No 967)
Review Date: 11/26/2009
Helpful Score: 1

Carla Kelly calls her Christmas short stories "gifts" to the season. Treat yourself to a gift and pick this one up especially for her "Christmas Promise". Fits right in with her Plymouth series. The other two stories are fine-well written, true to the period and capture the "feel" of the season-but Kelly's shines. All three are brand new releases-NOT re-packages of previously released stories.

Vintage Veryan. One of her best-and I've read them all. It can be read as a stand-alone but to get the full flavor, I feel that one should read this conclusion to the "Sanguinet Saga" after reading the others in the series. Interesting to see how both Mitchell and Charity have hidden depths to them. Fun to "catch up" with "old friends" from previous books.

Fans of the Tudor Court(s) should enjoy this one-I know I did! Very plausible look at what a young princess might have done-with very long-reaching consequences for all involved. Interesting debut from Chase. I will be looking forward to more from her.
