As a fan of Gilbert Morris, I really enjoyed this book. While different from some of his other series, it still kept me interested in true Gilbert Morris fashion.

Super overview of American history. Older kids can read the information themselves or the information can be summarized for younger kids while they enjoy the pictures.

The Journal of James Edmond Pease: A Civil War Union Soldier, Virginia, 1863 (My Name is America)
Review Date: 9/5/2009

This book gave a "first-hand" account of the Civil War through this boy's perspective. It makes this period of history come alive for children studying the Civil War and has multiple references to actual events that will supplement learning about this era.

The Journal Of Joshua Loper, A Black Cowboy (My Name Is America)
Review Date: 8/18/2009
Helpful Score: 1

I enjoyed this depiction of cowboy history from a first hand point of view. (Just a note that this book is completely fiction, even though the epilogue makes it seem like it's a true story. The back of the book has the fiction disclaimer in it.)

The Journal of William Thomas Emerson: A Revolutionary War Patriot (My Name Is America)
Review Date: 9/5/2009

This book did a nice job bringing the Revolutionary War alive for its readers. Its references to actual events supplement children's learning about the era.

The Long Road Home / A Gathering of Memories (Place Called Home, Bks 3 & 4)

I enjoyed these historical romances with a hint of mystery. An easy read!

This book is a great depiction of life in Pre-Colonial times. The content of the book often refers to actual events that will supplement children's learning about this era.

I enjoyed reading Prophet immensely. Not only was the book suspenseful and intriguing, Peretti hits upon controversial issues in a way that causes the reader to examine his own opinions on these issues. A good read!

I enjoyed reading The Watchers. The story was full of suspense and intrigue - you weren't sure where the story line would take you. I enjoyed Olsen's portrayal of the conflict between angels and demons that takes place. A good read!
