I really wanted to read this family's experience of eating local. But the book is very wordy and has so much of the author's worldview and opinions. Which wouldn't be so bad, if she weren't also slamming those who don't share her views. Not sure if I'm going to finish it.

We read a lot of historical fiction and this was a read-aloud for our kids, ages 6 to 14. We all enjoyed it!

Erin Healy is one of my favorite authors, so I had high expectations for this book. At first I was confused. There was a lot of description, which I don't like, and she doesn't usually use in her writing. But once I got a few chapters in and realized the reasons behind it, I was entranced. I read the book in a day!

I don't know how Healy does it! She takes good vs. evil in every story, but the setting and characters are so varied each time! I don't want to give any spoilers, and you can read the book description for yourself, but The Promises She Keeps dealt with some intense evil and witchcraft more than the spiritual warfare of her other books. This story was also unique in that it didn't focus on forgiveness, as it seems so many Christian books do these days. It wasn't all warm and fuzzy, but God wins.

I love how Healy always has a respect for families and/or marriage in her books. I'll have to say the end was a little weird, but I guess the whole book was "weird" considering it's speculative fiction. And I loved it!
