This is a good read this Lenten season. This book reminds us to look for the "one thing that is needful". We all need to be reminded, at times, to put God first in our lives while staying true to our God-given talents. Mary and Martha serve as an example to us, as well as the woman from Proverbs 31, as to how this can be done.

This book was not an easy read. I found it to be very interesting and somewhat startling. As a Catholic School educator, a lot of what was cited was new to me. My school still tends to be very traditional. We have found this "traditional" education to be very successful for our students. I would recommend this book for educators and parents.

This book was an easy read. I started it Friday evening and finished it Sunday afternoon. The story line in each of the four novellas was rather predictable, yet enjoyable. I liked the historical connections to each of the novellas. Being a teacher in a self-contained classroom, I can appreciate the time and dedication of these one-room schoolhouse teachers!
