Wow.
Read this only if you are a fan of Laymon's other books. Not for the weak.
Or the easily offended.
This novel, in its original form, was heavily edited and is restored and uncut here with this version.
If you don't cringe or flintch while reading this book you should question your humanity.

You need to have the fortitude to read this one. For me, it was a quick read, and I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. Fair Warning: Lots of sex - Lots of blood and guts. I would label this one a guilty pleasure.

Very suspencefull and a real page turner. Laymon gets right into the action. You won't have to go through 3 or 4 chapters before the exciting and scary stuff starts. I couldn't put this book down. I kept saying, "Okay, just one more chapter then I'll sleep"
If you like Laymon or have never read his books but enjoy stories like "The hills have eyes" or "Wrong turn" this book would be great for you. I couldn't put it down and probably read it in two or three days. It's one of my favorites of Laymons.

Richard Laymon is a master in horror/suspense! Good read if you like sex and violence and horror. Wouldn't say that there was too much sex as I've read other horror books with much more sex involved. But definitely kept me turning the page. I thought the climax, pun intended, could have been better though. Certainly what I came to expect from a Richard Laymon ending but could have been better. Not for the weak as other's have mentioned. But if you love Laymon, you'll love this book!

One long and extended chase scene with lots of violence and gratuitous sex thrown in.

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. Stephen King says, "If you've missed Laymon, you've missed a treat!". Really? Honestly, the writing was laughable. The concept is good, but I felt dumber for having read over half of it. A complete waste of time. I normally hate to quit on a book once I've gotten a ways into it, but I couldn't go on with this one. Instead of making his story thrilling and tense, he has his characters either getting it on like animals or thinking about getting it on like animals. Lander Dills (what the hell kind of name is that?), one of the main characters, is incredibly unrealistic and thinks about primal cannibal sex more than he thinks about survival or rescue. Avoid this book, or, if you are in the mood for a ridiculous comedy, try it out. You'll see what I mean after a few chapters. And it gets worse from there...

This is the restored, uncut version of The Woods are Dark. Richard Lyamon's son Kelly restored the tale using his fathers old manuscripts and notes. The usual Blood, Sex and Terror. If you a Lyamon fan you'll really enjoy this one.

Scary!! I love the way Laymon makes you think the stuff he writes about could really happen somewhere, someplace

Meh. Sometimes putting a lot of gore and rape and whatnot doesn't make your work edgy, it just seems desperate. I am a fan of depraved macabre writing and am completely unphasable when it comes to graphic depictions, but there simply wasn't enough of a story surrounding the sophomoric depictions of sex and violence for me to be impressed. I'm suprised this book is as highly regarded as it is.

sex sex and more sex......in my opinion to much sex. however if you can get past all the sex that really doesnt make much sense there is a great story in there. the ending i wouldve liked to see a little more imagation put into. seems like it was just thrown out there. i would recomend the book though, worth reading.

After reading The Lake, which one of "the" best books i've ever read, I stated this one. I was horribly disappointed, so much, in fact, I couldnt' even finish it. It was so "out there", I couldnt create a visual, while reading. Sexual arousal? At a time like that? Cmon...... Maybe my imagination just isn't as vivid as others, as i have to have my dose of realism. I thought it was his worst read, so far.
Richard Laymon fans, should not even waste they're time on this one.

It was okay, I didn't like the way it ended.
