This is a first in the serious of the Annie and Claudius mysteries. Annie is an antique dealer. Claudius is a shepared mix which has been dumped on her. Claudius has an attitude. I found that very refreshing. Annies Aunt is having surgurey so she and the dog go to New Mexico to help out. Instead they stumble on murder. Of course the dog did it. Annie has to clear him and solve the murder. I found this novel funny and very entertaining. I reconmend this book.

A pleasant read, and the church characters are entertaining. What a great idea to have a church set in Roswell, N. M., which believes aliens are our saviors and will be coming back soon.

For the sixth time in the past hour, Claudius, a.k.a. the Hound from Hell, jumped into the front seat and lashed Annie O'Hara in the face with his tail.

Annie is the owner of a third rate antique store in Lee, New Hampshire that is housed in the old Thurston Tavern. Claudius is her newly acquired side kick with major attitude problems. The two drive cross country to Roswell, New Mexico to help her Aunt Hortense following bunion surgery. Aunt Hortense and hubby, Ira belong to The Neighborhood Church of the Celestial Spheres. Annie is called upon the clear her uncle's name after she and Claudius stumble over the body of the associate pastor.
I found the dialogue to be odd and a little stilted. I'm not sure that I would put this in an antique category as the only mention to antiques was at the very beginning of the book. Of course the Roswell setting created plenty of opportunity to bring up aliens and they do figure prominently in the story. I'm not sure that I would read the next book in the series.
