Loved this book - wasn't sure at first if I should pick it up or not due to the somewhat silly cover but in the end I grabbed it and said "what the hell". Turned out to be an excellent book and I will definitely look for more from this author. Think Lord of the Rings with romance and zombies! Great writing, great world building, great characters - grab this one if you have the chance. This is second in a series but you can read it as a stand alone book.

A war is going on as high priestess Evelyn is captured and imprisoned. Orrin Blackhart leader of the opposing army is in charge of this new prisoner but the evil baroness is missing and feared dead and Orrin is starting to see everything as a lost cause and wondering how he can save his men from retribution. Also he is drawn to this beautiful captive and does not want to see her harmed - thus begins the exciting story of White Star!

This is the second in a trilogy by Vaughan all set in another world. The 2nd book was well worth the wait. I have not been disappointed by any of her books!

High Priestess Evelyn and Orrin Blackhart, Scourge of Palins, join forces to defeat Lady Elanore, Baroness of Black Hills and her hoard of zombies. It is a rousing tale of love and war. It's book two in the Star series but it really is a stand alone novel.

Well written with descriptions well enough to feel like you're there in this world created by Elizabeth Vaughan.

I LOVED Elizabeth Vaughan's (OTHER) trilogy: Warlord, Warprize and Warsworn. But this is the 2nd book of another trilogy, and it has many confusing bits with difficult transitions. If you don't read the first book, Dagger-Star, this book will be confusing and the story difficult to understand. I fault Vaughn for writing a book whose storytelling rarely explains what has happened, so the story just cannot stand alone.
I was disappointed, expecting more from Vaughan, and doubt I'll read the 3rd installment.

I am a big Elizabeth Vaughn fan and read the Warprize trilogy and Dagger Star. This book did not disappoint and I gave it 4 stars. Evelyn, the High Priestress from Dagger Star who raised Gliorianna, one of the Chosen, is the heroine of this story. She is captured by her enemies and thrown into a dungeon to await the evil Baroness who is making all the zombies. But Lord Blackheart leader of the enemy's army is fasinated by the Priestress and treats her kindly. There is lots of adventure as they fall in love and must find a way to combine their different cultures and views of the world. For a while it seemed hopeless but love wins through. My only disappoitment was the goats did not make an appearance in this book. I am so looking forward to Destiny's Star, Bethral's story.
