Dean Koontz might as well have invented the term "thriller." Your heart starts racing as soon as you see his name on a title and Whispers is no exception.

Another Dean Koontz winner! Usually I do not like books with a lot of romance in them. (If I wanted romance, I would read romance!) But this one is well written and pulled me in. I laughed, I cried, I thanked God for my healthy happy relationships. A page turner right up until the climax on page 498 of 502!! Trust me, you really don't want to know what the whispers are.

A beautiful screenwriter, Hilary Thomas, is confronted in her own home by an intruder named Bruno Frye. It seems that Mr. Frye has been stalking Ms. Thomas in the belief that Ms. Thomas is his long deceased mother, Katherine, who has ostensibly come back from the dead in order to kill him. He feels that he must kill her, before she kills him.

Of course, Ms. Thomas has no clue as to why Frye has singled her out. She is aware only of his murderous intent, and she is afraid, very afraid. On Frye's first go around with Ms. Thomas, she survives. On the second go around, Frye does not. Thinking herself to be safe, as Frye has seemingly gone to his maker, she is shocked when he, yet again, confronts her with deadly intent.

I am big fan of Dean Koontz. Although this is one of his earlier books, I believe it is my favorite so far. It is definitely a page turner. I stayed up really late one too many nights reading this one. The ending really shocked me and creeped me out. I would definitely reread this one.

Great suspense, like all Koontz books. A lady is stalked by a man who won't seem to die . . .

In a possible predecessor to False Memory, Koontz explores the ways in which a fragile psyche can be shaped and molded--and how unbroken minds find strength in love.

This is only my second Koontz read and I like it far better than Watchers. Still not sure I'm a huge Koontz fan yet though.

Reviewer: Lawyeraau (Balmoral Castle) -

This is a highly suspenseful book, written in clear, spare prose. It is an easy read and a definite page turner. It is a plot driven book, however, with little character development.
The plot itself is simple.

Why this is happening and how, will certainly keep the reader turning the pages. Some of it is predictable, but it, nonetheless, makes for an absorbing, easy read. This is one of the author's better, early efforts. Readers who enjoy suspenseful novels will not be disappointed.
