The Whisper Man is a serial killer from twenty years ago who murdered five young boys in a small town.. But he's in prison now right? So then who is responsible for this new murder?
You will burn through this book! You can't put it down and it's over before you're ready. All the characters are well developed and fully fleshed out. The plot maintains a creepy suspense throughout that will have you double checking your doors and closing your blinds. Alex North's writing is good, the atmosphere is creepy, and the pacing doesn't slow. A few twists I wasn't expecting were even thrown in. The Whisper Man echoes some of the greats, but is fresh and creative enough to deserve its own spot in the genre.

Great book that is a mystery/thriller that has a eerie ghostly side to it. It was wonderfully written and had me hooked from the beginning. Great characters that I connected with.
In this story a boy has gone missing. In speaking with the parents they find clues that are close to a past case that involved missing boys 20 years ago. Yet those boys were eventually found and so was the villain. He is still in jail. So why, after all this time, does it seem to be happening again?
I had fun trying to piece things together. Some I figured out but barely. Most of the time I was pleasantly surprised. Look forward to reading more by this author.

Thanks to Celadon Books for sending me a copy of this book!
This weekend, I was completely absorbed in The Whisper Man by Alex North. This book was equal parts chiller and thriller. Constantly turning the pages to see what would happen next, I couldn't put it down. This story even reminded me a bit of Nightmare on Elm Street with its catchy, creepy rhyme. Don't leave your door half-open!
One thing that struck me about The Whisper Man was the switch between first- and third-person narrative. I wouldn't have thought I'd like it, but it really helped me to see the story from various viewpoints while focusing on Tom, one of the main characters.
The story also looped about and around, creating a confusing web, yet still connected in the end. I really liked seeing how the mystery unraveled.

I was really hoping this was going to be better. I'd heard so much about how it was creepy and exciting. It wasn't creepy for me and it didn't get exciting until the last 20% of the book. On the plus side, I wasn't able to guess who the bad guy was.

Seriously good reading! This was creepy and scary. I had to talk myself into turning out the light at night and I had to check that the closet doors were closed. It had a little of everything, though-murder mystery, ghost story, family drama, police procedural. Exciting and hard to put down! I will be looking for more by this author!
I loved this book! I normally don't care much for books that take place in England, but this was the exception. I had some difficulty in the beginning understanding the reader on audio CD and the different words for items, but I got into the swing of things. 20 years ago there were several disappearances of young boys with their subsequent murders. The Whisper Man would come to their windows at night and whisper to them. The Whisper Man is in prison, so why are the disappearances and murders starting again? An excellent book with a couple of twists at the end.
This book is riveting! What a psychological thriller!!! I couldn't put it down!
Awesome book. Thriller and very good mystery. I will look for more books by this author.
A A real page-turner. Supernatural elements don't undermine the effectiveness of the police procedural.
In spite of the fulsome blurbs on the cover, and in the front pages, this is not the greatest thriller written in the history of the word, ever. (The blurbs actually had the opposite effect on me, and had me set up for a great disappointment. They were too over-the-top, and divided equally between authors I respect and enjoy, and authors I have found unreadable. So I was wary ...)
But this is an impressive debut: North handles the different strands of the story, and perspectives, very well. He balances the supernatural elements nicely. The narrative is not driven by characters doing unbelievably stupid things. (They do a couple of believably stupid things, but that's very different ...)
Satisfying spooky and intriguing read. I would even say that you should give it a try, if you're allergic to supernatural elements in a mystery. Looking forward to further works by Mr. North.
