This book delves into the character of Joe Pike. It's probably one of the best books by Crais that I've read. While we know why Cole likes having Pike around, this is the first book that gives insight into why Pike likes Cole so much -- which I appreciate finding out.

Another great novel from Robert Crais which gives the reader a good insight into Joe Pike. Could not put it down. The author is one of my favorite and having read all his others,I appreciated this one with the insight and compassion he allowed Joe Pike.

An excellent job of balancing suspense with intriguing peeks into Pike's past, peeling some of the layers of mystery away from this enigmatic character. Great action, balanced with tenderness. I've enjoyed the author's Elvis Cole series, and look forward to many more Joe Pike novels.

This was a new author for me and I loved yhis book especially. Fast moving and never a dull moment with twists and turns.
I love this style of writing -- unfolding the story step by step in a way that makes you want to continue reading chapter after chapter. Joe Pike is a mercenary hero, very similar to Jack Reacher (Lee Child's hero) - tough, spirited, and VERY capable.
This is my 6th Crais novel and I rate this one tops because I love Joe Pike!
My first Joe Pike/Elvis Cole story and certainly not my last!! Robert Crais is a master with words!
I'm new to Robert Crais's books, but after this, my second one, I confess I'm hooked. The writing is spare and clean, and the lead - in this instance, Joe Pike - is a superhero very much in the tradition of Lee Child's Jack Reacher. Plenty of action, complex plotting, and a charismatic protagonist add up to a good read, in my opinion.
Just found Robet Crais. This book featured Joe Pike, Elvis Cole's partner friend. It was a very good read, so I am on a quest to read all his books.
loved the story - great to read about people that are not perfect
I'm a big Elvis Cole fan, but found this spin-off about Joe Pike ( a usual character in the Elvis Cole series) lacking. Not Crais' best work but still an interesting read.
great start to Joe Pike's legend !
I had read this book several years ago and have, since then, read everything written by Robert Crais.
Had run out of something "interesting" to read over the week-end so decided to read this again. I've always liked Joe Pike and Elvis Cole.
I had forgotten how great this book is. It IS the first book on Joe Pike and, as that, explains so much about him. Makes me want to reread all the others now with the renewed understanding I have of him now. If you are a Joe Pike fan, read or reread this one. You will NOT be sorry!

Another good Joe Pike book.
Typical Crais, featuring the taciturn Joe Pike. Gives you a surprising look at this very enigmatic character. Published this year.
LOVED IT; JOE PIKE IS QUITE THE "HERO"; I LIKE ANYTHING BY CRAIS ANYWAY
Very good. Cannot put down.
