I suppose I have to be the negative nelly again. I hated this book. I thought the characters were weak. I did not think the Killers Vs Guardians thing was either new or clever. I hated the jilted at the altar but still love you unconditionally.
This book is very stereotypical and has nothing new to add to the genre. I hope the rest of the series picks up. I won't know because I won't be reading them.

First book of a new series, The Guardians of the Night. A very new idea, these vamps deny themselves the superior physical and psychic strength that comes from feeding on humans in order to protect them. But they walk a thin line for even a single kill could addict them to murder. Former detective, now PI Carolyn Mathers was left at the alter but she never dreamed the reason was because her fiance had become a vampire. Two years later Gray reappears and Carolyn refuses to let the explanation of his disappearance go. Now she's determined to hang on to him even if it means finding the real killer who's setting up her former fiance to take the blame. This book has murder, mystery, blood-thirsty Killers and a team of heros. Not bad, not bad at all.

It was ok , kind of predictable in places, but the storyline and characters were strong enough to carry it off.

I really liked this book. Great story line. Loved all the characters. Just enough of mystery, blood, & sex. Can't wait to read the next book.

I really enjoyed this. Not too sappy - lots of mystery and plot, and a little bit of seduction and sex.
I actually gave my copy to this guy I like rather then relist it: heh. Nothing like vampires and sex to seduce someone!

This is the first book I've read by Jenna Black. While it was a quick read, it was a slow start and I didn't really get into the story until Hannah showed up. I enjoyed the premise of Killers, vampires who have succumbed to the beast and kill humans indiscriminately, vs. Guardians, vampires who hold on to their humanity by not feeding on humans or, if they do, feed only off the criminal population.
Gray was just a so-so hero, however. He was weak in comparison to the other vampires, which wasn't necessarily a problem, but he needed a backbone. Carolyn definitely wore the pants in that relationship where I prefer my heroes a bit more alpha. The secondary vampire characters of Jules, an older vampire who still keeps in touch with his mortal descendants, and Drake, a Killer who helps the Guardians were better received. I loved the relationship between Carolyn and Hannah -- some of the dialogue could have been between me and my best friend -- for me these two characters were fully developed and, while the other characters were also well done, stole the story.
I think my biggest problem with this book was that I had a hard time with the love story of Gray and Carolyn. Carolyn says throughout the story how Gray is/was the love of her life yet there are references to bitter fights in the weeks leading up to their wedding. I just couldn't believe in the "I forgive you everything" premise. The plot had all the usual romance pieces but was nothing extraordinary.

Watchers in the Night was not what I was expecting. I have been a Morgan Kinglsy fan for years, and was really looking forward to a new series. I gotta say at first I was disappointed. The main character whose name BTW I can't remember (Ubber Bad sign right there) felt sappy, and the storyline felt contrived. All in all it lacked the punch I was used to from Morgan. But I kept reading because I like Jenna Black's style, and finally realized why I was not diggin Watchers. Not only is the premis different from what I am used to from a Jenna Black story. Everything is different, the setting, the motivation, the characters, especially the characters. Once I quit trying to fit the characters into the wrong mold it jelled for me; and I started to really enjoy the book. I expect good things from this series, the rest is deffinitly going on my wish list.

They hunt in very major city, hidden by the crowds, shielded by disbelief. They are killers, and their prey is human...
