I didn't know until recently that Evanovich wrote a "between the numbers" Stephanie Plum book. I understand there's another one coming, as well. This is a minor bit, but fun. It's quite short--just a novella, really--and is padded in the back with excerpts from the numbered books to make it thick enough to sell as a book.

In this story, a hunk named Diesel pops into her kitchen one morning and won't leave. He's mildly irritating and doesn't really tell her what his special talents are--other than demonstrating that he can open any lock any time by just thinking it open.

Stephanie tolerates his riding along as she works to find Sandy Claws--yes, that's his name, and he comes with a white beard, a toy factory, and elves--who has failed to appear and thus skipped bail.

There are supernatural elements to the story that make it a fantasy as well as a mystery, so stay away if that sort of thing irritates you. It is, of course, as much silly fun as the rest of Evanovich's books, so any Stephanie Plum fan who can tolerate a bit of the fantastic should get this right away.

Seriously not her best work. I love the rest of the series, but this one was... sort of lame. It felt like she got talked into doing something christmasy by the publisher and her heart wasn't in it. It was mildly entertaining, but I was completely sorry I paid full price for it.

A fun short book. Stephanie meets Diesel at Christmastime. Of course, Stephanie has no tree, no decorations and no gifts; her family is wild as ever, but Diesel loves the "dysfuncyionality" of all of them!

Another great one by Janet... It's 5 days before Christmas and things are not looking merry for Fugitive Apprehension Agent Stephanie Plum. She hasn't got a tree. She hasn't bought any presents. The malls are jam-packed with staggering shoppers. There's not a twinkle light anywhere to be seen in her apartment-and there's a strange man in her kitchen.
This is one of the books in the Stephanie Plum series with a Christmas theme.

Yes, this is a cure-all for the blues no matter what the season.
This was fun, I enjoyed trying to figure out what was what and who was who.
Sandy Claws is on the run. He's looking for master toy makers elves prefered.
Sandy Claws sister Elaine bakes cookies all day. Where do the cookies go?
Diesel, just keep poping in and out like an angel.

The Plum family is just, plum crazy.

Can Stephanie Plum get in the Christmas Spirit.

I read this for this month's "Fruit" theme in my online book club, The Reading Cove. It's just not my cuppa book. The over-the-top comedic tone wore thin for me, and by the second chapter I had completely lost interest in Stephanie Plum and her dilemmas.

The story is light and easy to read if you don't have a better book lying around begging to be read. It is quite confusing regarding the beginning and her companion. Through out the book her companion leave you with confusion and wondering what is his deal in the book. Kind of dumb. I give it a rating of Wouldn't buy it in the store, but would read it on a free trade rating.

I love Janet Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum series (haven't missed a one of them yet), but this one was a perplexsion. It seems to me that this is more of a dream of Stephanie's put into writing. It's a short book, so no long involvement, but the mystery man seems to be something combined from Joe and what she wants in a man.

Amazon.com: "Christmas in bounty hunter Stephanie Plum's world isn't quite like Christmas in Whoville. With only four days to go before December 25, she doesn't have a decorated tree in her apartment or any presents bought. Plus she's chasing an elusive bail-jumper named Sandy Claws; a hunky guy named Diesel is literally popping in and out of her apartment; and a mob of manic elves is threatening to assault her with cookies. The end result is that Stephanie is feeling a tad stressed over the holiday season. Life isn't any calmer over at her parents' home in the Burg, where Grandma Mazur is dating a new octogenarian stud muffin; sister Valerie is wailing over some unwelcome news; and Stephanie's mother is coping by belting back tumblers of Red Roses in the kitchen. Just where is the elusive Mr. Claws hiding, and why? What's causing the power blackouts all over Trenton? And what about the mysterious villain, Mr. Ring? Is all of this real, or is Stephanie just having a very bad dream?...this holiday installment won't disappoint. With a returning cast of entertaining, quirky characters and a rock-solid setting in New Jersey wrapped around an intriguing mystery..."

From Publishers Weekly: "Fans of the Stephanie Plum series won't be disappointed with this wonderful ... Christmas tale. Although it's somewhat less creative than some of her other novels, this is still an amusing tale. The story begins with the mysterious arrival of Diesel, a tall, handsome stranger who appears in bounty hunter Stephanie Plum's kitchen. He's caught Stephanie at a bad time: not only is she woefully behind on her Christmas shopping, but she hasn't been able to locate bail-jumper Sandy Claws. As usual, she's got family problems, too. Her sister is pregnant, her grandmother has a new boyfriend and her mother is drinking more than usual..." Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc

"It's four days before Christmas and things are not looking merry for fugitive apprehension agent Stephanie Plum. She hasn't got a tree. She hasn't bought any presents. The malls are jam-packed with staggering shoppers. There's not a twinkle light anywhere to be seen in her apartment. And there's a strange man in her kitchen." Sure, this has happened to Stephanie Plum before. Strangers, weirdos, felons, creeps, and lunatics are always finding their way to her front door. But this guy is different. This guy is mysterious, sexy - and he has his own agenda. His name is Diesel and he is a man on a mission. Diesel is unlike anyone Stephanie has ever met before in her life. The question is, What does he want with her? Can he help her find a little old toy maker who has skipped out on his bail right before Christmas? Can he survive the Plum family holiday dinner? Can he get Stephanie a tree that doesn't look like it was grown next to a nuclear power plant? These questions and more are keeping Stephanie awake at night. Not to mention the fact that she needs to find a bunch of nasty elves, her sister Valerie has a Christmas "surprise" for the Plums, her niece Mary Alice doesn't believe in Santa anymore, and Grandma Mazur has a new stud muffin. So bring out the plastic reindeer, strap on your jingle bells, and get ready to celebrate the holidays - Jersey style. Visions of Sugar Plums - the world of Plum has never been merrier!

Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is not having a good time. It is only a few days before Christmas and she hasn't sent out any cards, doesn't have a tree, and has yet to go shopping for gifts. She has had no luck in finding Sandy Claws, a senior citizen who failed to appear in court on a burglary charge. If all that wasn't bad enough, a man materializes in her kitchen who goes by the name of Piersel and says he was sent to her.

She can't lock him out of her apartment because he can magically unlock any door and the more time she spends with him, the more she believes there is something mystical about him. While Stephanie is running around town trying to find Sandy, Diesel is trying to find Ring who is Sandy's mortal enemy. Little does Stephanie know that Ring is somehow connected to her and if he's not stopped he will ruin the Plum Christmas.

This was a cute, quick read. I enjoyed it although I usually listen to Plum novels on BOT and think that I enjoy them more in that medium.

Also not too much mention of Morelli or Ranger and in my opinion they are a big part of the Plum adventures. Although she still manages to blow up a car in this story as well. If she didn't lose a car it just wouldn't be Stephanie. :)
