Ooooh--This one should not be read in the dark!
A creepy, mysterious game is being played with Billy Wiles....can he figure it out before more people die?
Koontz hits another home run with this one!

Engaging story and fast-paced enough to hold my interest throughout the novel. For Koontz fans, you won't be disappointed. For those unfamiliar with Koontz, this is an excellent example of the type of complex plot and general mayhem you can expect from him.

Another great tale by Kean Koontz. Billy finds a note in his car it reads, "If you don't take this note to the police...I will kill a lovely blond school teacher...If you do...I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have six hours to decide. The choice is yours."
What a way to start your day eh?

This was my first book by Koontz, and I must say I have placed orders for three more of his books. I didn't think I'd enjoy this at first, as my genre taste usually differs very greatly from the thriller/crime/horror type. Even though I had the whole thing figured out in the beginning (thanks to years of criminal investigation shows...), I enjoyed every chapter and even stayed up well into the night reading it (absolutely a page-turner). I feel Koontz has a very decent style of writing, with just the perfect amount of "shockers" and cliff-hangers. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Koontz, is looking for a good thriller, or likes this genre (even those who don't!).

OMG!! What a great book! Non-stop intrigue from the beginning!!! Koontz is hit & miss for me, this is a HIT!!

I am a huge fan of Dean Koontz, but this book just wasn't for me. I tried over and over to force myself to read it but I just wasn't into the story line.

Another good book from Dean Koontz. Kept me in suspense wondering why the psycho picked him, and how he would ever be able to get out of the situation that he was in. Well worth reading.

This was not my favorite Koontz. I really loved his early books and the newer ones like the Odd Thomas series are great.

I liked this book well enough that I'd recommend to other's. It's my first Koontz book and I look forward to reading this author again. The story kept me interested all the way through, wondering who could be doing this to Bill Wiles (main character). The only flaw I found in it was there's a small part in the book where it got pretty slow for me, waiting to find out who was the mystery freak.

A great, suspenseful read with a neat twist at the end.

I enjoyed this book. Good character development and plot twists. Recommended.

Very intense, very horrifying story by Dean Koontz. Really scary!
Helpful Score: 1
Very difficult to listen to too gory for my taste. One of those kinds of books that you just want to hide your eyes but still look through your fingers. I couldn't listen to it and had to go to the "spoiler" website to find out what happened. I'm now listening to the last disk because I know how it turns out. I think I'm done with Dean Koontz unless he comes out with more Odd Thomas books.

Excellent thriller! Plenty of twists and turns and I didn't want to put this one down! Slightly gorey, but it fits in well with the storyline and I wouldn't have it without.

Best Dean Koontz book he has ever written. Easily.

This was another one of Koontz's fast-paced, roller coaster rides. I loved how the chapters were short, some only 3 pages in length, which somehow that added to the whole speed/action thing. And based on the title, this is what he'd set out to accomplish and he did so with applomb.
Throughout the story, you're left wondering right up until the very end, who's responsible for all the murders going on around Billy, and the notes they're leaving him that bring him into the fold. (I won't go into a synopsis here as I included it in this book's journal entry.) And just when you think you've got it figured out, like Billy, you're thrown a curve ball, just like on a roller coaster. hehe

I'd rate this book as fair. The plot seemed well-planned but not completely developed. The first 100 pages seemed rather slow and it ends without really explaining why the bad guy was who he/she was. I wouldn't rush out and get this one.

I love the pace of this book - I couldn't put it down. I believe I stayed up til 3am reading it.

Clever, eerie and full of twists. As its name implies, this book moves fast with plenty of action. The premise is much deeper than the impression you might get from the book summary.

This was REALLY good. It kept me guessing the whole way through; I thought I had it figured out half-way through, but I was deliciously wrong. Will creep you out a bit (or at least it did wimpy me). I loved it!
This book is not for the faint hearted!! Koontz always intriques me, but this one is over the top strange - it kinda reminds me of the "Zodiac Killer," where clues and items were being left to taunt policeman - only this book is taunting an individual.
Many of the scenes are very graphic. Our mystery bookclub loved it except for a couple of people who stopped reading due to the "violence." I had to put it down a couple of times to digest what was going on - great koontz psychological thriller.

Suspenseful and gripping, I finished it in two sittings, just couldn't put it down. Many of Koontz's books are a bit too horrifying for me, but this one was just right. A bit of horror, a lot of thrills, and a satisfying ending. It's everything I ask for in the perfect murder mystery/psychological thriller genres. I hope there'll be more like this in his writing future.
My housework didn't get done at all for two days while I was busy reading this. Couldn't put it down! Very faced paced and intriguing.
This was one of the first Koontz books I read (yes, this late in his authoring life!) but it was one that grabbed me and made me an instant fan! Definitely one you'll want to read!
Another twisty Dean Koontz book just as good as all the rest, I can't wait to read his newest thriller.
Billy Wiles is an easygoing, hardworking guy who leads a quiet, ordinary life. But that is about to change. One evening, after his usual eight-hour bartending shift, he finds a typewritten note under the windshield wiper of his car. "If you don't take this note to the police and get them involved, I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher. If you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have six hours to decide. The choice is yours." It seems like a sick joke, and Billy's friend on the police force, Lanny Olsen, thinks so too. His advice to Billy is to go home and forget about it. But less than twenty-four hours later, a young blond schoolteacher is found murdered, and it's Billy's fault; he didn't convince the police to get involved. Now he's got another note, another deadline, another ultimaatum...and two new lives hanging in the balance. Suddenly Billy's average, seemingly innocuous life takes on the dimensions and speed of an accelerating nightmare. Because the notes are coming faster, the deadlines growing tighter, and the kiler becoming bolder and crueler with every communication-until Billy is isolated with the terrifying knowledge that he alone has the power of life and death over a psychopath's innocent victims.. Until the struggle between good and evil is intensely personal. Until the most chilling words of all are: The Choice is Yours........
This book started out very disturbing but as the main character fought back from this horrible situation...I was hooked. A very good read...it's hard to put down.
This book definitely had me on the edge of my seat.
Details are very vivid; I have to admit I had to skip reading about the injuries a person sustained at one point because I couldn't bear to read it.
Not a book to read in the middle of the night when you can't sleep! lol

I wasn't overly impressed with the book. I try to venture away from just reading my favorite authors; John Grisham and James Patterson, but when I do I always get disappointed. I didn't feel the book had the drama that would keep me hooked and wondering what may happen next like many books do. I have read some of Dean Koontz books and have liked them, but this one didn't draw me in.
Couldn't put down... very good one of his best. Will keep yu guessing and in fast paced suspense. I loved it!
I've liked every Koontz book I've ever read--this one was no exception. I was guessing until the very end. Suspenseful and intriguing, I read the book in one sitting.
What kind of secrets is Billy keeping? Who is his tormentor? Will he ever get ahead instead of being one step behind? Can he save Barbara, and what does "saving" Barbara mean?
Find out...read it.

THIS WAS A GOOD BOOK VERY EXCITING AND A FAST READ. IF YOU LIKE SUSPENCE THEN PICK THIS ONE UP.
This is probably one of the best/easiest books to read and follow I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I certainly hope that someone can enjoy this as much as I did, as it is amazing.
Fast paced book that grabs you from the opening chapter. A good read.
Very exciting. It had be hooked.
Oh, how I've missed Dean Koontz! It has been a while since I've read one of his books and this was a great reminder of what an exciting storyteller he is. Fast-paced and nerve-racking, Velocity begins in a bar where our protagonist, Billy, a congenial bartender, is involved in a conversation with a couple of customers. At the end of his shift, he finds a note on his car directing him to decide the fate of two strangers. Either way he chooses - even if he doesn't choose - someone will die. And so it begins...
Even as Billy struggles with deciding what to do, the killer is in motion - setting things up so that Billy, no matter what he does, will be the number one suspect. There seems to be no escaping the inevitable, but wait! Koontz has a wild ride in store!

Great book! Got my attention from the very beginning and was a great psycho-mystery thriller. Some parts of little gruesome, but I am told that is typical for this author's books. (This is the first I have read of Dean Koontz).
I've had VELOCITY in my TBR pile for a few years now so was glad to finally get to it before it spent yet another year in waiting.
I couldn't really get into the book much because it read too much like a Saw movie rip-off. A man gets an ominous note telling him a killer will kill this or that person if the man does this or doesn't do that, the choice is yours.
Anyone who's seen the wildly popular Saw movies knows this is a knock-off from that.
I was yawning after 50 pages so just skimmed through to the end, and yep...nothing new here.

This was my first ever Koontz book many years ago and I have been hooked on him since. They actually made a movie based on this book which I thought was cool. If you love a good page turner that keeps you up all night this is a winner.
Once again Koontz proves he is the master of suspense. He is destined to reside in the Hall of Greatness in the literary world. this is one of his best.
Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors and he didn't dispappoint me with Velocity. Fast paced and exciting!
It's Been years since I have read Dean Koontz. This was first one in a long time. Wow, great story. Ended pretty abruptly, but all ends closed. Kept me reading until the end. Keeps you wondering who it is until the end. Great book.
Pure trill from begining to end.
a pretty good thriller.
Amazing story line! A twist around eery turn! I could not put this book down!!
psychological thriller, a killer gives a choice to a man "if u don't take this note to the police i will kill a blonde schoolteacher, but if u do take it to the police i will kill a elderly women active in charity work! what to do what to do.
Loved this book!
Great, great,great...Koontz keeps on and on.
Very good reading!
What a great fast paced read! I finished it the day after I got it! Wonderful book.
its a koontz what else do i need to say
I thought the book was so - so, but this genre is not my favorite.
Read this book over a 2 day period-couldn't put it down!
Another great Koontz story. I never guess the endings!
Impossible to put down!!
Great ending!
Devoured this book faster than a pizza at a weight-watchers meeting. But it deserves to not only be read, but analyzed. Take your time with it. It's worth it.
good read...not as intense as i expected.
I couldn't keep up with the twists and unexpected turns! I loved it!
A typical weird Koontz book. Loved it.
While reading this book it was pretty grusome, but the ending keep it a little easier to take.
Koontz is a little wordy, but this book kept me breathless! It doesn't follow the normal thriller template of events, and was surprising all the way to the end. This book makes you think about difficult decisions!
I'm generally not much of a fan of the "horror" genre, but the short synopsis on the back cover caught my interest enough to get me to give it a shot. I found the story to be compelling enough that it kept my interest enough to keep the pages turning. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a suspenseful, quick read. I didn't much care for the ending - it seemed rushed and awkward. But overall it was a good story.
I love Dean Koontz but this book was way to wordy! I know that sounds weird but I felt like the people weren't real, the way they spoke and acted. He took up so much page space describing surroundings and such that I felt very impatient. It had a great theme but no follow through.
First time I read this author. This book is so good that I couldn't put it down.
I typically like Dean Koontz, and am not squeamish about horror or thriller books, but found this book to be excessive in the "violence with out a cause" department.
Awesome book!!!!!!!!!
Very Good!! :) :)
if you dont take this note to the police and get them envolved, i will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher some where in the couinty. if you do take this note to the police i will instead ki;; an elderlyoman in charity work. you have 6 hours to decide
One of the most fast-paced and scariest psychological thrillers I have ever read! Dean Koontz's writing is as good as ever in this one.
Another great book by an author who rarely disappoints. Velocity is a more realistic (in that it doesn't use the supernatural or other sci/fi type characters sometimes found in Koontz' stories) read, but it definately delivers enough excitement and twists to keep you turning page after page.....in high velocity!
great read.."intense"
This was another fast paced Koontz read but I didn't like the main victim/hero/protagonist very much and thought he was way too Self-righteous and judgemental. I much prefer characters with a core of genuine sweetness like "Odd Thomas".
Another good one by this author. scary & unbelievable at times times.
Middling on the Koontz scale. Not as scary as some, but fast-paced. I found it hard to like the protagonist, so this book didn't really do it for me, but the plotting was interesting.
Great suspensful story by Koontz...as always. Couldn't put it down!
A very good story, with an ending I did not anticipate.
Fast moving murder mystery
Very good read. It shows what a good person is capable of when pushed to his limits.
This book will keep you reading well after your bed time.
A real page turner....
Fast paced thriller, this psycho works quick! Great read!
Excellent book. Differnet from most of Koontz's books. This was a murder mystery. A fast pzced, quick read. A real page turner.
Slower than most of his books, but interesting ideas. Good read.
Fast paged turner. Could't put it down or read it fast enough. Really good story.
I always like Dean Koontz books, with their good vs evil themes! This was a very good one.
Couldn't put it down, My favorite Koontz book.
Its all about choices, either you make one or it will be made for you, and you dont have alot of time so dont waste it. Your choice or lack there of will change someones life forever, be careful of what you choose though, because it could change your life as well...
This book is hard to put down and will keep you guessing till the end. One of Koontz best books I have ever read.

Love Dean Koontz, love this book.
I could not put this book down! One of his best !!!
Edge of your seat suspenseful!
I absolutely loved this book. Great suspense. Hard to put down!
A great page turner! Koontz is consistently good!
It was good but not the level I expect from a Koontz book. It all seemed to wrap up too neatly and easily towards the end as he goes from clueless to knowing exactly what to do.
Pay close attention and you'll figure out who the killer is! An excellent book and very exciting to read!
Velocity is a thriller that does not stop (full of horror). Dean Koontz newest. A quick read!
What a strange book, I can't make up my mind if I really liked it or not.
Good book, semi-surprise ending. Fast paced and light reading. Not one of Koontz's best but definitely entertaining.
Another strange story by Koontz to keep you up at night!
A great page turner and quick read. Koontz style really sucks you in.
Dark and creepy. Not my favorite Koontz book, but it was decent.
I am a die hard Koontz fan. This book is different than most of his books. I liked it though. It held my attention to the end!
Riveting thriller that pits an innocent man against all odds!
Brand new book. If you're a Koontz fan you'll love it.
Good book. Just when you think it's over you find out you are wrong!!1
Strange. You read the first chapter and through the whole book you keep thinking "What was that first chapter about?" Eventually it comes into play. I figured out who it was halfway through, but it was a good read. Not one of his best though.
Loved this book. I thought I had it all figured out, but at the end, once again, Dean Koontz shocked me!
Absolute pageturner....hard to put down. Dean does it again!!!
Really good, fast paced book. Interesting premise about making split second choices, neither of which sound good.
Great suspense!! I loved this book so much, I was up all night reading it cover to cover!! One of the best Koontz books EVER!
Great read! Once I started, I couldn't put it down.
I love anything by Dean Koontz, he's one of my favorite authors. I read his books again and again.
A Fast Paced Read, Very Engrossing!

A good thriller in the tradtional Koontz style.
once it gets started, this book is a pretty quick read. it will keep you on your toes. enjoy!
An interesting take on the standard serial killer thriller.
Great book! I couldn't put it down.
A Spooky Koontz.......A poor guy who has to make harder decisions than most of us would ever hear about.......
One of his better ones.
a good, old-fashioned, barn-burning, beat-the-clock thriller that pits an innocent man against the worst sort of evil.
One his best. A real page turner.
Another great Dean Koontz book!
A bartender finds a note on his windshield that says "If you don't take this note to the police and get them involved, I will kill a lovely blonde schoolteacher somewhere in Napa County. If you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have six hours to decide." ... and from the moment he finds it, you can't put the book down! I read it cover to cover in one day.
I am a big Stephen King fan - with the few Dean Koontz books I've read, he runs a close second. "Velocity" is a 'can't put down' book!
Very good, very fast, twisty and turny and fascinating to read. I'm a big Dean Koontz fan, and this one did not disappoint.
Dean Koontz....Need I say more
This book was really suspenseful and I had trouble putting it down. I'd definitely recommend it.
If you don't take this note to the police...I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher...If you do..I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work. You have six hours to decide, The choice is yours.
Wow, this book just doesn't stop while reading it. Dean Koontz has another thriller on his hands with this one.

A great Koontz read. Quick paced with a typically twisted story line. The main protaganist is interesting without being too likable. As with many of Koontz books figuring out the story is almost impossible as you are not giving enough information until the very end.
Not one of his best, but also not one of his worst. If you are a fan, I would recomend it.
Best DK book I have read to date. Intense - If you don't take this note to the police I will kill a schollteacher, if you do I will kill an elderly woman, the choice is yours.........
Billy receives a note that he thinks is a joke. By acting on the note, he chooses to kill a school teacher or an elderly woman. His choice will decide their fate. I loved this book. Thrilling and one that I read in an afternoon.
This is a great book but not Koontz usual horror tale. It's more of an edge of your seat thriller with a serial killer.
ITS DIFFERANT A GOOD READ
Dean Koontz needs a vacation from writing.
Great book! First paperback over 400 pages that I ever remember reading in two days!
Noone can match Koontz for scarey. This book will keep you flipping pages long after lighs out...

Because a young blonde schoolteacher is killed, Billy gets another note.
Another deadline.
This time he knows it's no joke. He's racing a killer faster than evil itself. And Billy must accept his terrifying challenge: The choice is yours.

A diabolic killer plays a harrowing game of cat and mouse with a reclusive bartender in Koontz's latest gripping suspense thriller. Billy Wiles, a 30-something bartender and former writer, is content with his solitary Napa County existence listening to "beer-based psychoanalysis" from tavern regulars; visiting his hospitalized, comatose fiancée, Barbara; and carving wood sculptures. But the simple life gets mighty complicated when he finds a note with a deadly, time-sensitive ultimatum: he must choose between the death of a young schoolteacher or an elderly humanitarian in six hours. Reluctant local sheriff Lanny Olsen dismisses it as a joke until a comely teacher is found strangled and another threatening note appearsoffering even less time for Billy to decide the fate of two more people. Who would have guessed that one of those people would be Olsen? After his friend's murder, Billy finds that the cunning killer has gained access to every aspect of his life as the ultimatums grow increasingly more personal. Suppressing horrific childhood memories, Billy scrambles to bury grisly incriminating evidence the murderer has deviously planted. More gruesome deaths and shaky suspicions trap Billy right in the demented killer's lair for just the beginning of Koontz's serpentine showdown. Graphic, fast-paced action, well-developed characters and relentless, nail-biting scenes show Koontz at the top of his game.
Koontz is always a good read, good humor, a word painter extraordinar.
The main character in this book gets to decide who the next victim will be whether he wants to or not.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY REVIEW
I didn't care for this book that much. It wasn't one of Koontz's best books. In some parts the book dragged.
Billy Wiles tends bar in a tavern in his small California hometown, from which he has never moved despite the horrific night when he became an orphan at 14 and its equally horrific aftermath. Some 15 years later, he published a well-received book of stories and met Barbara. They were about to be married when botulism in canned vichyssoise put her in a coma, and Billy more or less on hold, living on the hope that she will revive some day. Some five years further on, Billy finds, under the windshield wiper of his car, a note offering him a hideous decision. If he doesn't go to the police, "a lovely blond schoolteacher" will be killed; if he does, "an elderly woman" will be murdered. Billy doesn't exactly go the police. He shows the note to a cop who is probably his only real friend and who seconds his conjecture that the note is just an exceedingly tasteless prank. Of course, it isn't, and for the rest of an exceedingly tightly wound thriller stubbornly focused on him, Billy struggles to discover the identity of the soon-serial killer, who plants evidence incriminating Billy on his (her? their?) victims. Eventually and all too soon, Barbara is threatened, and Billy's subsequent suicide predicted, in the murderer's ostensibly final note.
