Tess Gerritsen has written a book that I just couldn't put down. Two stories are being told simultaneously, and then they merge as one great tale!!! White slavery, a hostage crisis, a pregnant police officer with an FBI agent husband, and many more twists and turns. I can't recomend highly enough if you love the mystery genre.

The main character, Jane, was a woman who showed that she was human like everyone else when confronted with motherhood. She was a good cop and made the story more enjoyable. The tension throughout the book kept you turning the pages to see how it would all turn out.

My first Gerritsen book and I was pleasantly surprised. Quite a few moments in the book where I thought "Whoa...didn't expect that." Tended to be a little slow in parts for my taste, but I can see where it was needed to really set up the characters/story etc...I'm not sure that I'll venture to read anymore in the Rizzoli-Isles books, but this one was pretty good.

Wow, Gerritsen does it again. Detective Jane Rizzoli finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time - at the hospital just about to give birth. When she finds herself hostage of a woman who'd been declared dead, then resuscitated - she gets swept up in a tale of secrecy, violence and scandal that seems impenetrable. This is one you won't be able to put down.

The fifth in the Rizzoli and Isles series finds a very pregnant Rizzoli being held hostage by Olena, who is convinced that the U.S. government is up to no good. It's a complicated thriller that elevates conspiracy theory from 'something impossible' to 'very plausible.' The book details the horrific life of those trapped in white slavery.

Next to _Harvest_, this is Gerritsen's best work to date. This novel moves fast and contains both an engaging plot and some unexpected twists and turns. Recurring characters appear in this one, but you don't need to follow the series in order to enjoy this.

The final (so far) featuring Det. Rizzoli. Another gruesome, suspenseful crime read. Almost too many twists and political stuff to keep straight. Probably my least fav of the 5.
The surgeon, the apprentice, the Sinner, Body Double and Vanish.

A corpse suddenly comes to life in the cold storage of the Medical Examiner's office. A Boston policewoman, nine months pregnant, goes into labor when the Diagnostic Imaging department becomes the set of a hostage situation. A hospital security guard, killed by the reanimated corpse who turns out not to be dead after all, isn't registered as a hospital employee. Neither, it seems is the doctor who was tending to her. The hostage taker calls the local radio station as the cop's FBI husband watches the scene unfold from outside, and issues the statement that "the die is cast." An unidentified man, dressed similarly to the Tactical Operatives surrounding the hospital, walks into the building without being stopped.

This is just the begining of Tess Gerritsen's latest thriller, and the story gets better with every page. As a conspiracy gets uncovered the lead characters get thrust into more and more danger. Another winner, VANISH is a wonderful police thriller.

A nameless woman appears to be just another body at the morgue--until Boston medical examiner Maura Isles sees the corpse open its eyes. The now-frantic Jane Doe is rushed to the hospital, where with cool precision she shoots a security guard and seizes hostages, one of whom is pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli. As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the killer's identity. But this case goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis, and Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, is the only one who holds the key to the mystery.

Tess Gerritsen has written an action-packed and very entertaining story for all mystery readers. Once you have started the story, you'll be compelled to keep reading to find out how this mystery ends. Excellent.

Retired internist Gerritsen serves up another prescription for bad dreams in her latest thriller to feature Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and homicide detective Jane Rizzoli (Body Double). The catalogue of terrors this time out includes sexual slavery, hostage-taking and torture; there are also government bad guys, post9/11 red herrings and a heart-tugging cadre of young Eastern European women known only by their first names. Fierce Olena, thought dead, wakes up in Maura's morgue, recovers in the hospital, andwith the help of a mysterious colleaguetakes a group of hostages, including Jane, who's about to give birth. Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, tries to reason with the hostage-takers, and learns that Olena wants publicity to bring down the Washington bigwig responsible for sexually enslaving, then murdering, her friends. Maura feels a frisson for Tribune columnist Peter Lukas, and he seems to be the guy to tell the story, but readers will quickly apprehend that he's playing both sides. As usual, the medical details are vivid and read authentic, while the action is just this side of super-hero comic exaggeration. Does it work?

Back:

A blessed event becomes a nightmare for pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli when she finds herself on the wrong side of a hostage crisis in this intense and relentless new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Body Double.

A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. But when Boston medical examiner Maura Isles unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes. Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital. But the bizarre soon turns lethal. With shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages...one of them a pregnant patient Jane Rizzoli.

Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer's identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis. Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery...if she survives.

The newly-awakened Jane Doe is rushed to the hospital where she shoots a security guard and takes hostages. One of the hostages is a pregnant homicide detective, Jane Rizzoli. Jane's husband, an FBI agent, works with Maura to find the killer's identity. But, this case goes deeper than just a hostage crisis, and Jane who is trapped with the madwoman, is the only one who holds the key to the mystery.

This is a quick, good read. The writing is simple -- no detailed histories or descriptions. But, the story is good and moves quickly with no slow parts. Feel free to email with any questions. ~LeAnn

This was one of my favorite Rizzoli N Isles books!! Fast paced, excellent story, all though creepy, these things do really happen. I think that's what made this story so moving. I thought I had an idea on who one of the bad guys were then I was wrong then I was right. This on your toes book keeps you wanting more. Finding the answers is all you are going to want to know until you put this book down. I loved how the two stories combine into one. This was a great way of doing the book. Alot of stories I read do have more than one thing going on or crime. But blending the two was ingenious. 5 stars plus some more for this book. I will read the next one in the series for sure.

Jane Rizzoli is about to have her first baby. Her water broke so she rushed to the hospital only to encounter a desperate young woman who holds her and others hostage. The young woman was delivered to the morgue, found alive and transferred to the hospital. As she recovered she murdered a strange man with his own gun which she kept to hold her hostages.

Jane is afraid that this could be her last case but works to communicate with the hostage taker. Hopefully she can discover the motive behind the hostage taking and save herself and her baby. The story is interesting and Gerritsen writes so well that the reader cannot help but empathize with Rizzoli and her husband as they work to get to the bottom of the case. Good read.

My wife watches a great deal of television. She discovered Rizzoli & Isles on TNT. We started watching it and liked it. As usual, I then looked up the author of the books upon which it is based. I ordered the first one from Paper Back Swap. I liked it and proceeded to put together the entire series. Each book has an interesting twist, or several. As a retired police sergeant, detective, corporal, and patrolman, I have had the opportunity to interview some psychopaths and I find Gerritsen's villains to be believable. If you like mysteries, these books will satisfy.

It was a good enough book, but for some reason I could not get into it and was beginning to think I would not finish it. I have read some of Tess Gerritsen's other books and enjoyed those so I am not sure why I could not get into this one. Taking a newborn along when questiong somebody was a bit much for me. I know women are dedicated but this one blew me over the edge.

Another action-packed story from Gerritsen! I enjoyed reading about Rizzoli's bonding with her new baby and trying to fit in her life as a detective while being a good mom.

UNBELIEVEABLE....GREAT BOOK, GREAT WRITING STYLE!!!
Being from Boston, I appreciated the loose Bostonian setting...but even with that aside, Gerritsen is a truly gifted author with a real flair for suspense. I read this book in 2 days! One of the best thrillers I've read in a while. Can't wait to read more Jane Rizzoli books!!!!! 5 STARS!!!
