This is the first book in the Brides of Montclair series.
Lorabeth, orphaned and unwanted by her step-brother and his wife, is sent from England to Virginia at the age of twelve to live with her aunt and uncle. Now a young beauty at seventeen, her aunt has asked her to marry Duncan Montrose, a man twelve years her senior, after Norabeth's cousin, Montrose's intended bride, elopes with her French tutor. Noramary feels that she's obligated to marry this man although her heart belongs to another....
This is a historical romance that brings to life a young woman's choice between duty and love. Sweet.

I enjoyed this book. It was very well written for a short, historical romance. I wanted it to be longer, however. This was my first book by Jane Peart, who wrote over 60 books. I thought the author did an excellent job of portraying the women of the Colonial time period in Virginia. It was interesting to read what their thoughts might have been, and how the main character reacted to the challenges of her life.

The cover art is ridiculous! The novel is set in the mid 1700's, Colonial Virginia..... they NEVER would have dressed like THAT!!!! That kind of appearance would have only been seen on a prostitute and even then only indoors!
This is a lovely little Christian Fiction novel that has been totally screwed up by the cover art... if you really want to read this book, then do it the honor of reading a version with a cover designed by a publishing company that's not deranged!!
