This is a fun read. Jacobia Tiptree just wants to take care of the repair work on her fixer-upper house in Eastport, Maine, but she still finds time to help track down a murderer.

A crime wave is sweeping the quiet island town of Eastport, Maine. After discovering the dead body of Kenny Mumford, the town's petty thief and ne'er-do-well, Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree and her best friend, Ellie White, set out to catch the killer. Meanwhile, Jake's attempts to start a new life after quitting her job on Wall Street and moving to Eastport with her teenage son, Sam, are thwarted as two creeps from her past show up: her philandering ex-husband, Victor, and Baxter Willoughby, a crooked stockbroker from New York whom Jake helped put in prison. Between repair jobs on the old house she's renovating and trying to keep Victor from moving in next door, Jake comes across two more bodies and evidence of drug dealing and smuggling. Graves (The Dead Cat Bounce) affectionately creates believable characters (with the exception of cardboard cutout Willoughby), who lend depth and warm humor to the story. While it's not hard to figure out who's behind the mayhem, and the resolution to the mystery fails to thrill, the cozy details of small-town life and home repair make for an enjoyable read.

Jacobia Titree saved her sanity--and her son, Same--the day she abandoned Wall Street for the seacoast village of Eastport Maine. In her new home, a charmingly dilapidated fixer-upper, she looks forward to repairing old radiators and restoring antique shutters for years to come. But Jake's hopes of serenity are dashed when tiny Eastport erupts in a crime wave.
Hometown bad boy Kenny Mumford-old flame of Jake's best friend and fellow sleuth, Ellie White--is the first victime. When his corpse washes up on the beach at Prince's Cove, all evidence points to a drowning..except the bullet hole in his forehead.
When bodies begin littering the Maine scenery, Jake and Ellie learn that the ante on Kenny's small-town antics has been upped. Add a pair of unwelcome arrivals--Jake's ex-husband, and an unscrupulous New York ex-money mogul--and you've got a blueprint for more deadly danger than one old house can hold.

I like the characters and the setting, but felt there were just too many things going on at once in this book. I will try the next one to see how these characters develop.

Jacobia ("Jake") feelslike an old friend. A good mystery -- the kind you snuggle up with.

Second in the Jacobia Triptree series. Tiny Eastport erupts in a crime wave and Jake's ex husband Victor, hotshot, decides to move to Eastport....

I really enjoyed the story which takes place in Maine. I like the main character, hate her x husband, like her son and her main squeeze. One of the locals turns up dead and the main character gets involved with the mystery of who did it and why. Enjoyed and I will read the next.

Kenny Mumford's wide, sightless eyes gazed up and out of his shroud of wet, green rockweed, on the beach at Prince's Cove.

Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree and Ellie White discover the body of Eastport, Maine's major bad boy on the beach. It looks like a drowning until you see the bullet hole in the forehead. Ellie and Kenny grew up together and she feels obligated to find out what happened to him. Jake moved to Eastport from New York to restore an old home. She gave up her lucrative career in money management to live in a small downeast Maine town. Jake becomes concerned when a former money mogul that she helped send to jail shows up in town. Two more murders and two million dollars point to him as a main suspect.

This was an enjoyable read. Jake is trying so hard to preserve her home and restore it to its original condition. She gets involved with the investigation to help her friend Ellie. Jake's ex-husband comes to town and causes problems for pretty much everyone. I enjoyed meeting the characters and felt they were well presented. I did not figure out the murderer until close to the end. I would read more in the series.

I really love this series. This second book equalled or was even better than the first.

The characters are great and the plot twists keep you constantly wanting more.

Really enjoying the series. The characters are well defined, even the ones who are annoying. Using home repair as a backdrop is an unusual but interesting trip. Good plot. Looking forward to continuing the series.

This is the one with the llamas. Though they are not involved with the murders. Number 2 in the "Home Repair is Homicide" mysteries, there is always a repair going one, this one having to do with the shutters and radiators in Jacobia Tiptree's old house in Eastport, Maine. But who knew Eastport is rife with drugs, large amounts of money, and convicted financial felons. Jacobia is a former Wall Street trader, living with her son, Sam. With her neighbor, Ellie, she sets out to solve the murder of the local ne'er-do-well, his father, and a couple others who shall remain nameless. Lots of excitement amid the bucolic scenery, good characters and a plot puzzle.
Oh, and there is that episode with two corpses and a moose...

As always, there are many twists and turns in her novel. It is set in Eastport, Me. with a cast of characters typically "Mainers". She gets involved with solving murders often in the case of her friends. She diligently pursues the offenders at her own peril, but comes out right at the end. I have enjoyed her works.
