Absolutely love Jodi. Can not put her books down once I start. This particular one contains some adult scenes; teenage drugs and sex; be advised. Otherwise, great story - as always.

I enjoyed the first 3/4 of this book. I sympathized with the main character even though I had a hard time resolving the 14 year old character the author created with the 14 year old girls I actually know. I also really enjoyed the convention of incorporating graphic novel components into a traditional novel. However, I felt the last 1/4 of the book was forced and rambled a bit in order to force a conflict resolution that fit with the tenth circle of hell concept of the book. Plus the author gave us enough clues to know who-dunnit 100 pages before the book ended with no ending plot twists to prove us wrong.

After hearing a lot about Jodi Picoult, I decided to give one of her books a try. "The Tenth Circle" was the first one that I had the opportunity to read, and I have to say that I was slightly disappointed, after all the good things I had heard about her. I thought the book started out excellent - characters and themes that the average person could relate to. However, there were parts of the story that I found just too hard to believe and too unrealistic for me to relate to. I understand that this is a work of fiction, but the second half of the story just seemed so out of place and like a completely different story than the first half of the book. I thought the transition between the two was very awkward. Overall, I still thought the book was a decent read, and I will give some other Jodi Picoult books a try in the future.

Certainly not my favorite Picoult book. I found the graphic novel dark and hard to read and the ending very easy to see coming. Regardless, the characters were very likable and I had a hard time stopping once I started reading.

Another good book by Jodi Picoult. Certainly a mix of mystique and proven test of loyalty and love. The only thing in the book disappointing to me was the mixture of comics. I'm not sure if it was done to entice the male reader, but I found it disruptive.

Like all of her books I've read, this one drew me in. It will open some eyes about teens and how young some begin entering a world that in reality they are not mature enough to handle, even with "good" parents. A story that also explores how at times we see things more with our hearts than our eyes. The comic thing was a little distracting to me, but overall a good, fast read.

I think there's only been one Picoult book I didn't like and no, this wasn't it!! 5 star read, as she pulled me in and I didn't want to do anything but finish this one the weekend I started the book. Picoult does her research well and creates characters you'll come to care about and hate to say goodbye to. I loved this one.

Couldn't really get involved with the book. The characters were distant and not likeable. It wasn't even really a study in teh darker sides of human nature because there was no revelation to any of the characters...no epiphany. They just kept wandering around making their lives more complicated damaging the lives of those unfortunate enough to be around them. The ending was supposed to be a plot twist, but I was not shocked or amazed...I really just didn't care.

This book was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I like Picoult before this book, but this is by far her best work. Even when I had to work for 8 hours, I managed to finish this book in less than 24. You'll enjoy it immensely.

The premise was promising, and the storyline started out to be very engrossing. I found the whole parallel of Dante's circles of hell with what the father was going through to be very clever and interesting. I thought the concept of using cartoons, since the father was a comic artist, interspersed throughout the book was fresh and new. But overall, there was something missing, a link that would somehow pull it all together. Even though the characters were complex and had intriguing backgrounds, I just couldn't connect with any of them, especially Trixie. Maybe if I could have felt some sympathy for her, there would have been that emotional attachment to a character to help, but instead I felt nothing. Overall, the story seemed too long and drawn-out and then abruptly came to an unsatisfying end. While Jodi Picoult remains one of my favorite authors, this particular book was not.

I have always enjoyed reading Jodi Picoult's books as she writes about current issues that may affect us or someone we know. Her characters are very real and draw you into their stories.
The Tenth Circle is no exception. How does a teenaged girl deal with being raped? How does one deal with suicide? with cutting? with adultry? with a past that haunts one? There are so many issues that are lived in this story and you, the reader, are drawn into all of them. All this and pages of a graphic novel too, based on Dante's Inferno, are woven into the story. This book will make you think and it will make you question.
Although this is not my favorite book by Jodi Picoult it is a good read.

This is the first Jodi Picoult book that I have read and it really captured my attention. I didn't really like the comics in between the pages/chapters and I felt like that took away from the book. The author did a great job at describing the feelings of each person in this book and I felt like I was right there with them. However, do not watch the movie. You will be dissapointed.

I liked the novel itself, but I found it oddly predictable about midway through the novel. Once again, Picoult's style and language were wonderful. I found it easy to spend hours with the characters, but I was disappointed at the predictability of the ending and some loose ends she left when the book was over.

One of her better books. Emotional tug of your heart. Similar style to her other books but different enough not to figure out the ending. Interesting twist with adding comic book pages that go along with the story. Make sure to read the note to the reader at the end of the book (when your done reading).

"The Tenth Circle" was the second book from Jodi Picoult that I had the opportunity to read, while I liked this book, I didn't love it. I had guessed the ending pretty quickly, but there were still a lot of twists and turns to keep me guessing.

The book started out really well, difficult to put down - characters and themes that the average person could relate to and haven't really been written about before. However, as the story went on there are parts of the story that, personally, I found too unrealistic and unbelieveable and that hurt the story some.

I seem to be in the minority for liking this book.

As always the social themes and emotional conflict are top notch. Of all the characters she's introduced me to in My Sister's Keeper, Nineteen Minutes, and Second Glance, there just wasn't a character in The Tenth Circle that seemed to make a good story better. I never thought I'd feel this way about a Picoult novel, but I was relieved to get to the end.

Poor Jodi Picoult. I have had the same feelings about each her books that I have read. She has a wonderful story in her head, full of details and complex characters. But, she just can't seem to write in a way that will consistantly grab the readers and make them care about these fictional people. The problem with her writing reminds me of Tolkien; Great story, average writer. In a year or so I may read more from Jodi just to see if she has been developing her craft. When her writing becomes detailed, descriptive and interesting, her books will become magic places to dive into rather than something that runs through my head as I read.

Honestly, I didn't really like this book. I think you have to be a parent to fully understand it. I know this might sound bad but I couldn't stand the character Trixie. I almost didn't finish the book because of my irritation & disgust with her, not to mention my frustration at her super-naive parents. Like I said, I think this book is geared toward parents (especially of young teenagers) and you have to be one to really connect with it.

Jodi Picoult has spun another masterpiece. This story kept me spellbound for two days straight. I got no housecleaning done and the kids ate grilled cheese for dinner!

This is another example of a typical but good Jodi Picoult novel. Her writing style, topic choice, and story lines are pretty similar throughout her novels. I think she creates characters that the reader truly cares about and depicts real emotions accurately.

As a volunteer for a rape crisis center, this book piqued my interest. Some of the facts weren't completely accurate, but the book was pretty informative. I think people have misconceptions of rape and tend to doubt rape victims. I don't think this book helps the misconception.

Classic Jodi Picoult... Very suspenseful!

A little bit on the depressing/dark side, but still a good Jodi Picoult novel. Deals with teen sex, drinking, drug use, suicide, marital affairs.

My daughter (who was 8 at the time I read this) always asks me about my current book. I had a hard time finding anything from this book that I was willing to discuss with her in any amount of detail.

I had to take a break from Jodi after this one... I needed something lighter. Definitely not something to read if you need a cheering up!

I do love Jodi Picoult's writing style. She never ceases to entertain. Her characters are genuine and the story line is easy to get sucked into. That said, I wish I had read the reviews on this book before I got the book. Maybe I wouldn't have wasted my time. This was definitely not her best work. The ending was very predictable. This was my first Jodi Picoult book to read. Of all the titles I had to choose from, and every one was very popular and recommended, I chose The Tenth Circle because of the Lifetime movie that came on this past summer. I should have picked a different one to begin a new love for an author.

The story starts out well and is easy to read, but I found myself putting it down for long periods. By 3 quarters of the way, I found it a chore to continue. The whole story takes a different direction, literally, and took away from the entire story.

I will say, that I did develope a soft spot for the father in the story, but the girl, Trixie, I didn't care for. We won't discuss the mother, Laura. Not worth the ink.

If you are a Jodi Picoult fan, you should read this book, but if you are just starting out, chose a different title.

The movie? I enjoyed the movie.......

Jody Picoult is a master storyteller, her stories never follow the standard buffet that many other authors tend to offer. That said, I found the book disappointing in some ways. Though very creative in telling, I found the format more than a little disturbing and had to skip some parts otherwise I wouldn't have finished. This is a very good book & very hard to put down. This book looks at that delicate moment when a child learns that her parents don't know all of the answers and when being a good parent means letting go of your child. It asks whether you can reinvent yourself in the course of a lifetime or if your mistakes are carried forever---if life is, as in any good comic book, a struggle to control good and evil, or if good and evil control you.

Eh. I remember being disappointed the first time I read it and I still am. There was no real magic and the characters were much less sympathetic than in her other books. It also leaves the ending rather unfinished. The twist was mostly lame and while it didn't follow the courtroom formula, it still had a formulaic feel.

The comic book parts were entertaining, but kind of stupid and the game with the letters was more distracting than anything else. I remember being disappointed that I bought this one in hardcover...

This was not my favorite Picoult book, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. It was an interesting subject matter, and I found myself wondering what was going to happen, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. It was a pretty decent read from Picoult, though she has written better books.

Trixie Stone is the freshman girl that all other girls, even the upperclassman, envy. She's dating the hottest junior in the school, she's pretty, smart, and gets along with just about everybody. She has a seemingly perfect life.

But that only lasts until she goes to a party that gets way out of hand.

Her ex-boyfriend, who she wants back so badly, inflicts a horrible case of violence upon her.

And now everyone would kill to be nothing like her.

Trixie is one of the few characters that you can actually fall in love with throughout the course of the book. She is everything a teen girl wants to be, but then the reader has to have compassion for her because of what she goes through, and then you really do have to feel bad for her.

This is a book that everyone should read, simply for the wide range of issues that it covers. A great read.

I really liked this book, but I think it should have ended about 100 pages before it did. At the end, the author tried to throw the answers to everything in. It felt rushed.

not what I expected at all after enjoying some of her other books. The tenth circle is referring to levels of hell.

This book looks at the delicate moment when a child learns that her parents don't know all of the answers and when being a good parent means letting go of your child. It asks if you can reinvent yourself in the course of a lifetime or if your mistakes are carried forever -- if life is, as in any good comic book, a struggle to control good and evil, or if good and evil control you.

Great Picoult novel. The jacket flap states that it is a powerful chronicle of an American family that probes the unbreakable bond between parent & child, and the dangerous repercussions of trying to play hero.

I couldn't put this book down! The book is about a 14 year old girl Trixie who falls in love for the first time when she gets raped by the boy she thought she loved. From there her world is turned upside down; her friends hate her, her town hates her, she cuts herself and attempts suicide. Then the boy accused of rape turns up dead and she gets blamed for his murder....the end is suppose to be a twist, though I knew what was coming. I still recommend this book.

I was very disappointed in this book. I have read Picoult's three most recent books and while her style is engaging the story lines seem to be getting worse and worse. This book read like a soap opera, she threw in everything but the kitchen sink. It felt like she was just trying to meet a deadline and had to churn something out. The inclusion of comic book pages was interesting but other than that I did not enjoy the story.

Would you go through hell to save you child? Daniel Stone would, even if it means having to go back to the one place he doesn't want to. This book was excellent for the first 200 pages, but fell flat by the end. It was right around page 200 that I figured out the ending and it all started to feel too trite. This is the problem with Picoult books - they are all surface writing, is what I call it, I don't feel like she delves deep into the characters, the character development is so weak.

Yet, there are more obscure things that never get tied together - for instance, Seth - we never find out how he told Laura what he needed to tell her. AND the big one... Joseph - it's never revealed who he really is and what that means. (Trying not to spoil this one!)

This book really needed a little less metaphors and more pages to flesh it out. There were just too many things left open-ended...

Definitely not my favorite Picoult novel. It's hard to describe exactly what about it made me dislike it, maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea. I feel like she almost takes on too many issues to address- rape, adultery, suicide, cutting, family issues, etc. It's not a happy book at all, very depressing material. It was interesting how she tried to incorporate Dante's Inferno into the novel's plot, but while the idea of using a graphic novel is interesting and creative, I don't think it was all that successful. I would hope that this doesn't turn off some new Picoult fans to her writing as I have enjoyed so many of her other books.

The final twist in this book wasn't a huge surprise; the resolution and ending seemed too obvious and didn't get the treatment this book deserved. Jodi has done better in her other books. The dark comics interspersed throughout the book were very hard to read (I gave up after trying to read a couple of the frames on the first one). They ended up being more of an annoyance to find the next text page.

Probably due to my not trying to decipher any of the comics, the book title didn't seem to have anything to do with the story.

I guess in a way, Jody Picoult's books are border line chic-lit, but I have always enjoyed her books very much. I guess my favorite would have to be "The Pact" or "Mercy". I'm glad I didn't read the Tenth Circle as my FIRST Picoult book, it might of been my last. I found the characters in this book totally unbelievable and un-inspired. I don't want to spoil the plot for PBSer's that have not read the book. The cartoon illustrations were supposed to help move the story along? I guess? To me they were just a useless diversion away from a dis-jointed narrative. I will keep reading Picoult's books, even Babe Ruth didn't hit a home run every time at bat. This book is a strike out for sure.

Synopsis
Fourteen-year-old Trixie Stone is in love for the first time. She's also the light of her father, Daniel's life -- a straight-A student; a pretty, popular freshman in high school; a girl who's always seen her father as a hero. That is, until her world is turned upside down with a single act of violence. Suddenly everything Trixie has believed about her family -- and herself -- seems to be a lie. Could the boyfriend who once made Trixie wild with happiness have been the one to end her childhood forever? She says that he is, and that is all it takes to make Daniel, a seemingly mild-mannered comic book artist with a secret tumultuous past he has hidden even from his family, venture to hell and back to protect his daughter.

With The Tenth Circle, Jodi Picoult offers her most powerful chronicle yet as she explores the unbreakable bond between parent and child, and questions whether you can reinvent yourself in the course of a lifetime -- or if your mistakes are carried forever.
