I have loved all the Pink carnation series up to "Night Jasmine" I read the 1st 3rd of the book and was bored to tears! I was astonished. There were no spies. None! Zero. It was just a rather whiny girl and a guy who didn't want to be a duke. The story was slow and after nearly 200 pages I didn't feel that any story had been told. I hope "Blood Lily" is an improvement!

I just finished the fifth book in the Pink Carnation series, The Temptation of the Night Jasmine by Lauren Willig. This is one of my favorite series. It's a delightful blend of some of my favorite genres - historical fiction, historical romance, chick lit and suspense. Well, OK, chick lit is NOT one of my favorite genres. But in the Pink Carnation books, it works well.
I think this was one of the best books in the series. There was more emphasis on the historical suspense aspect of the story than the romance, but that was OK. This one revolved around Mad King George III. As with all historical fiction books, part of the book is based on historical fact and part is pure fiction. But again, as she has done with all of the Pink Carnation series, Willig adds a section at the back of the book to the reader know what was real in the story and what wasn't . Being interested in history, but not a historical expert, I really appreciate that.

This one started a little slow, a little like the first book. I almost put it down. But I am so glad I did not. The last half of the book is so worth it. Lots of fun.
