I liked this Dark One story with a different, more insecure heroine (IO) and a scientific minded hero (Nikola) from the 1700. Iolanthe meets Imogen & Ben at the GothFaire while visiting her aunt in Austria. She is starting a new career as a photographer and wants to use Imogen as her model, even though sonething seems off with the brother & sister. When Imogen refuses to do a photo shoot in the dark woods it stirs IO's curiosity and she goes exploring in the woods. Of course she gets in trouble trying to photograph a "swirly mist" which is actually a portal that she falls through into the 1700. And then the fun starts after she runs from the woods into Nikola's horse and he mistakes her for a loose woman because of her 21st century clothing. She eventually realizes he is Imogen's father and someone is going to kill him and she sets out to save him.
My biggest problem with this story was the lack of proper explanations for Iolanthe's "time weaver" ability. I felt like I missed something from another book that had already explained it. Also the ending seemed rushed with too many loose ends and incomplete story lines.
All in all an enjoyable addition to the series.

I loved this series up until now. It was so boring and predictable that i stopped reading after a couple of chapters.
This book has almost every plot device I hate: time travel, people doing things without consulting others, and keeping secrets from each other. Despite all that I thoroughly enjoyed the it mostly because of the crazy interaction and conversations with Io and Nikola.
I would have liked a little more info on Io's abilities and exactly what it entails. The end kind of came rushing through and I thought they didn't really deal with Nikola's brothers nor any of the consequences of time travel.
But overall, fun! Fun! Fun!
