After graduating from Arizona State University in 1986, Wright moved to Manhattan to get her masters in Art history from New York University's Institute of Fine Arts.

Wright founded the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) and currently serves as spokesperson for the organization.[26][27] The NCSF is committed to creating a political, legal and social environment in the US that advances equal rights for consenting adults who engage in alternative sexual and relationship expressions.Wright traps feral cats in New York City, performing Trap-Neuter-Return with the Feral Cat Initiative and coaching people who have taken the Neighborhood Cats workshop in how to trap feral cats.
