This is the first of Meg Cabot's books I've read. I didn't know what to expect from Heather Wells, and I was pleasantly surprised. Heather is sassy and feisty -- a thoroughly likeabel heroine!
I'll admit to being a little uncomfortable with the tense the book was written in, but I got used to that after a while, and just let myself be entertained.
Looking forward to Heather's next adventure!

Author has great wit. Character, Heather Wells, cannot leave well enough alone and is pulled right into the middle of the action. I will read the next in the series.

This is a different mystery than I'm used to, but I really enjoyed it. It was funny and also kept me guessing. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Interesting book. It was a tad fluffy but it was good fluffy. It didn't require a lot of brain power and it was a fun quick read. I liked it enough to order the second book.

I loved this book it was fun, exciting, and mysterious all at the same time. The humor throughout made this a very quick book to read. I am already ready the next one and cannot seem to put it down. I feel so much like the heroine in the book not a size 4 but average and feeling it some days more then others. The mystery has you thinking till the end but when you find out who it is it all makes sense. Just a good read.

Fun, easy to read book that introduces Heather Wells, former pop singer, current assistant dorm director, and spunky girl detective. The next book in the series is "Size 14 is not fat either". Don't let the titles mislead you, the novels are not about the size of the character, but about solving murders that are occurring in Fischer Hall. There is a little romance, and a lot of mystery.
Helpful Score: 2
This was a light, fluffy, fun read. I didn't even realize it was a mystery until I was well into it. It's very different from most mysteries I read--it has much more in common with Jennifer Weiner's Good Night, Nobody.

This is the first book i've read from this author. Heather's character has a strong resemblance to Janet Evanovich's series about a female bounty hunter. It was quick and fun, and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

Entertaining. Got through it in about 6 hours. Mystery for the romantic comedy type.

I love Meg Cabot's characters and sense of humor--she doesn't take herself too seriously and I always know I'm in for a treat when I order a Meg Cabot book!

I was very surprised by this book. I only read the book because of the title and did not know it was a mystery book. I thought it was Chick Lit. So as I read it I was surprised at what it turned out to be. I really enjoyed the story though I knew who did it and how way before Heather did. So I kept waiting for her to catch up with me. Very colorful characters, can not wait to read the next.
This is the First Heather Wells Mystery Book.
It is followed By: Size 14 is not Fat Either
Then the Third book is: Big Boned

This was an OK book. Took almost half the book before I really got into it, but after that, it wasn't so bad. I have the other two in the series, and I plan to read those as well.

I typically enjoy "brain candy" books like these. It had an added element of fun because there is a murder mystery involved. Totally a page turner at the end. If you like this genre, it's a great book. I recommend the sequel too. (Size 14 Is Not Fat Either)

Entertaining first book in a new series. Liked Heather and Cooper and hope to see their relationship develop into something deeper. For the obvious reasons, did not like Jordan and though he doesn't have a role in this book, Jordan's father sounds like a complete jerk and I won't like him either. I love this author's voice. She is able to draw me into the story and keep me entertained. I look forward to Heather's next adventure.

Although I've loved every one of Meg Cabot's teen books that I've read, I keep finding myself struggling to enjoy her adult books.
SIZE 12 IS NOT FAT is the first in the series about Heather Wells, a former pop singer sensation who is now an assistant residence hall manager at a college in New York. In this first book, students in the Hall keep winding up dead, and Heather takes it upon herself to figure out what's going on -- along with the man who is her landlord, and who also happens to be the brother of her ex-fiance.
It's not that it's a bad plot, but I just couldn't get in touch with the characters, or even like them all that much. I hope others will enjoy the book more than I did!

This book was a lot of fun to read. Great chick lit! I am a big Meg Cabot fan and she did not disappoint with this one. The concept is amusing (young pop star turns college RA). Heather Wells is a great character and I enjoyed the problems she found herself in and how she managed to get out of them!

It took me a little while to get into this book, but once I did, it turned out to be pretty good. A great summer beach read - nothing to serious. The author's humor is great and you really get an idea of who the main character, Heather Wells, is. I recommend this book to someone who likes a not so serious type of murder mystery.

This is a cute chick-lit book with a side of mystery. Heather is a former pop singer who caught her fiance with another woman and whose mom ran off with her small fortune. She's now working as an assistant director of a residence hall at a college and is doing her best to leave her past behind her. I really like the fact that this girl isn't a whiner and is getting on with her life on her terms. She's no longer a skinny young pop star and is living in a rented brownstone owned by her former fiance's gorgeous brother who dates size 2's and whom she has a hopeless crush on. When two female students die under mysterious circumstances in an elevator shaft, Heather is frustrated at the lack of the police action and takes matters into her own hands and starts snooping around putting her life in jeopardy as well.
This book is very much a fluff filled confection with a little mystery thrown in but the likable heroine makes it easy to turn the pages and I'll probably read the 2nd book in the series if it falls into my hands.

Absolutely hysterical book. If you liked Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon growing up, and you believe that size 12 is the average size of American women, and therefore, NOT FAT, you should read this book. Laugh out loud funny in places. Can't wait for the next one.

The book was entertaining though the characters were a bit flat and formulaic. I'm going to get and read another one though to see how things develop. Sometimes a first novel is a bit rough.

Predictable, but a fun read nonetheless! A bit of "Hollywood", a bit of mystery, a bit of chick lit.
I read about half of this. I was disappointed, since Meg Cabot is one of my favorite authors. But I didn't feel it was the same style that she usually writes, I can't pinpoint one thing I especially disliked about this book.
Loved this book! It was hilarious and a fun read. I can not wait to read the other books with Heather Wells as the heroine.
Heather, an ex-model turned assistant dorm director gets pulled into a murder involving one of her students found dead at the bottom of the elevator shaft. Everyone wants to shush it up as an accident but Heather knows girls do not elevator surf! So she makes the decision to take on another career: spunky girl detective. Delightful!!
not as good as her "boy" series but enjoyable light chick lit.

Entertaining book about a former teen rocker who is now an asst. dorm director. While on the job, college girls are elevator surfing and falling to their deaths. Heather decides to look in to the deaths, because girls do not elevator surf.
i seriously loved this book. the heroine is quirky and real and a generally awesome girl who comes from a not-quite-average background. if you're a meg cabot fan, you should definately give this book a shot.

Heather Wells was a teenage teen-idol. But now her career is gone, her famous boyfriend publically dumped her, her mother ran off to Argentina with all her money and her job is the assistant director for a dormitory at a famous New York university. Plus she's gained a dress size or two and people keep saying she looks so familiar.
Shortly after she started working there, a freshman girl dies when she fails down an elevator shaft. The authorities believe the girl was elevator surfing, but Heather doesn't believe that that's what happened. Unfortunately, she can't get any of the authorities to believe her.
There are several other similar deaths that the authorities chalk up to suicide. Heather doesn't think so and she decides to do her own sleuthing into the real cause of the students' deaths.

Im not one who likes detective novels, but i loved the title and my little sister (the best book chooser ever!) said it was great. i picked it up and fell in love with the title character, Heather Wells. i could totally relate to her- not always getting the guy/girl you want, working at a college because your dreams fell through, etc. Then when a murder happens- i actually enjoyed the story more. its funny, suspenseful and i didnt want it to end. i was glad she came back out in more books.
A fun book. I am looking forward to reading more.
It was okay... I was really unimpressed. Thought many of the characters seemed like cookie cutter stereotypes than real people.

funny tale of a former teen pop star and life after the bubble bursts!
This was great book, it had everything in it, romance, mystery and humor. I could not put it down. I cant wait for the next book
If you love Meg Cabots other book this one is her best! Just came out this year. GREAT CONDITION.
This is the 1st in the Heather Wells series and it's a good one.
I love Heather Wells!
When I first came across the title of this book it made me crack up, but it is a little miss leading because it is basically a cozy book, but in a chicklitish sort of way.
This is a very fast paced book and as always Meg Cabot comes to the plate with a great heroine (infact, she's the average size a the american female). The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because there was quite a few typos in this book, which was kind of distracting from the flow of the reading.
This would be a terrific summer read for any book lover! I can't wait for the next in the series to come out!!

The life of an ex pop star turned mystery solver. An indulgent read, the book is not full of meaning or symbology, but is a quick, enjoyable, mindless read that takes you away to a land where dress size and the handsome man downstairs are the most important things on one's mind.
Light and fluffy, not her best, but enjoyable with some laugh-out-loud moments. Heather is just a little too naive and dumb for me, but it had some good moments.

Absolute drivel! I was only 47 pages into the book and I couldn't stand it anymore!!! If I read one more word about the distinction between the residential hall and a dormitory I was going to scream! If I read one more word about how she used to have a singing career, I was going to scream! If I read one more word about how she was fat, I was going to scream! So to prolong my good mental health, I stopped reading this drivel after only 47 pages.
